What's everyone's opinion on this Jerry Falwell shirt? (NWS)

Postby Prowl20 » Sun Jun 24, 2007 2:27 am

And dont be offended that this thread contains "naughty language". The title says NWS for a reason.

Regardless if its primary intention is to turn some heads, I think this is one of the most awesome shirt's I've seen a band put out in a long time. [/img]

Let me be the first to say. I hate Jerry Falwell.

Secondly, I think the band members are a bunch of douche-bags. How pathetic do you have to be to use a guy's death, no matter how hated, in order to get publicity for yourselves.

Ok, so they may hate the guy. However, selling the shirt for $15 a pop is just a douche move.(I assume they're selling it for $15, most band shirts are around that price.) Also, they're proving they are no better than Falwell by pulling that.

Nothing this band could do to make some money would be as awful as what Falwell did to make his.

"Not Work Safe." The more commonly used phrase is "NSFW" or "Not Safe for Work." Meaning you shouldn't/can't see the post/page/whatever on a company computer or account.

Back on topic: It IS kind of weird. Yeah, Falwell was a douchebag on scales previously unknown to humans, but come on! You don't just make money off of someone's death! That's wrong no matter who they are.

I see it as kind of unnecessary to insult someone after they're dead. It's rude, yes, but just what is the point?

Falwell was an unpleasant person but mocking him after he shuffled off this mortal coil is rather silly.

He's dead? Nice. I mean, I hope he went peacefully and whatnot, I don't hate him, but I don't ever want to listen to him again.
And lots of people make money off of the deaths of others. Falwell amongst them. Well, death and subsequent ressurection, but hey.

I've seen things more offensive. However, I do wonder that if someone can have a T-shirt like this, are individuals allowed to wear T-Shirts with Osama bin Laden rox? Or Princess Di sucks?

My issue, where does one draw the line on the offensive use of a dead person's image? Or any image?

I'm aware that ObL might not be a carcas.
Something memorable here.

It tells me that Falwells message was so strong and powerful that even AFTER his death those that oppose him are continuing to be defeated by the man. That is an amazing accomplishment. As long as things like this keep happening Falwell wins.

BTW, Even as a Christian I disagree with the way Falwell injected extreme right wing beliefs into politics. It caused a lot of people to turn against Christians and now we are still paying the price. Want proof? Just look at the threads on this board and 90% of them are direct attacks on Christian beliefs. But that doesn't take away from just how much power Falwell continues to hold over his opposition because they STILL can't let it go. He's laughing in his grave.

To be fair, it's nowhere near 90% and most of the ones that are seek to attack all supernatural belief systems, not just Christianity.

Take away the supernatural aspect of what Falwell was saying and he was just a loud-mouthed, intolerant, treasonous, bigoted man who stole from the people who believed the same things he did and made life worse for people who didn't.

You've definately earned your screen name with that one!

There are very few people whose death actually benefit mankind, Falwell is/was one of those people.

He suggested that the 9/11 attacks were a judgement from god because the Untied States tolerates homosexuality and abortion.

i'm so not a christian, but guys like him that have a voice out there really &^%$ it up for most christians. he is a fundamentalist psycho. i think, however, letting it go is a mistake. young americans might go around thinking that 'thats what you get for forgiving homosexuals' or whatever.

He's dead. (He can't say the things that made people hate him, anymore.)

He's facing God for his life, and it's God's judgment alone. (That's more powerful than all of your hatred combined, people.)

It's time to let his body rest, his soul go where it may, and for people to quit cashing in on the joy of another's death.

It's disgusting and despicable. It doesn't matter if he's Christian, Muslim, Atheist, etc. Cashing in on anyone's death is just completely evil.

Anyone that supports this, is no better than what they claim Falwell was as a person.

You claim hatred, bigotry, etc...aren't you committing the same crimes against humanity by cashing in on, and reveling in his death?

And hoping he rots in Hell? Terrible. Who knows where he is, but none of us should hope or wish for such a thing. About anyone.

Hatred and malice like this, lowers you to the villain's level, it doesn't empower you to be better than they are.

I did not like this man. But I would never wear nor endorse a product like this. I disagree with just about everything Falwell preached, any many are in fact pleased he is dead, but I wouldn't wear a shirt that makes me just as low as he was. Whatever feelings I have about him, I will not broadcast on my shirts.

Good point. I've never really understood wanting to have something so obviously offensive on a shirt or bumper sticker. It just makes you a target and puts you "on guard" all the time. In the case of similar bumper stickers, do the owners of those cars actually get surprised when somebody keys their vehicle?

*BUZZ* Incorrect. Hating the man is just as bad as the band capitalizing on his death.

Hate what he did, hate what he became, but don't hate the man himself.

If Hugo had said:

What Hugo Could've Said wrote:Let me be the first to say. I hate what Jerry Falwell did, and became because of it, but not the man himself.

Secondly, I think the band members are a bunch of douche-bags. How pathetic do you have to be to use a guy's death, no matter how hated, in order to get publicity for yourselves?

That would've been *the* correct posting of the entire thread.
