Maybe the reason the Tfs would not give them faces is because it a lot easier to distance yourself mentally from something that looks really alien then if it looks a lot like you. That being said, the drones did show feelings in the prequel comic. They were afraid of Megatron and relieved when it seemed like Megatron wasn't going to kill them.
