It is the same character, Energon Prime is supposed to be better but he's fat and very Voltron-ish so I'll say Armada is better.

And he looks awesome combined with Wingsaber. Unlike Armada Prime, who doesn't look much different when he combines with Jetpants.

I love super-con Armada Prime. I'm still one of the few that like "fatty fatty fat fat", even when he's not combined with Windsaber or his drone parts. Still, I'll have to cast my vote for A-Prime.

Gonna go with Armada, but I plan on bashing my E-Prime into a different character anyway. I wonder if he could make a decent Ultra Magnus, if I messed with some of the drone bits or something...

Given the choices, I’ll go with Armada, but not when he’s combined. I never cared for that.

Brakethough, my friend made a kitbash Magnus out of E Prime. I’ll try to get some pics sometime to post.

If we are talking about the non-joined.superlinked forms, then the Armada toiy wins hands down, he also wins in Super mode.
Energon Prime however looks better linked with Wing Sabre than Armada does with Jetfire.

Between the two, I'd say Armada. Energon Prime does nothing for me at all, but the super mode attached with the drones does look cool. The E-Prime combining aspect was a cool idea, but the Omega Surpeme combo didn't fullfill the promise IMO. Nor the Wingsaber one. A great idea, but just not my favorite looking combinations, but I think the Energon powerlinking all around yielded poor looking figures.
I do like Armada Prime, even with his magical super pants, but not so much with Jetfire. Overload as an attachment was neat.

Armada. By Energon he really let himself go. But, if you include the entire Unicron trilogy, I'd say Cyb is the best of the three.

Out of both Energon and Armada Prime since I donot care for either one of their combined forms Armada Prime in his basic robot mode is far better than Energon Prime in his basic robot mode. I say Armada Prime is better even though Energon Prime is the upgraded version of Armada Prime. He looks far more powerfull and intimidating than Energon Prime does.

Although for me the best Optimus will always be the G1 version, out of the two mentioned I do prefer the Armada incarnation for two main reasons.
1. The Armada Supercon Optimus had more poseability than either of the two Energon versions. Plus the Super mode in Armada was slightly better I thought.
2. The Armada version had it's image further enhanced by being featured in the PS2 game, which made that version look even better.

Best version of the character? G1 Prime all the way. It's what I was raised on, so I simply can't accept any substitutes. Best toy? The 20th anniversity edition. The definitive Transformer toy.

I have to go with Armada Prime, simply 'cuz of the classic red/blue color scheme; there's too much white and gray on E-Optimus. Don't care much for the Super Mode on any version of A/E/C-Optimus, frankly (that's what we should have Ultra Magnus for - HE'S the one who's supposed to be compensating for something  ), but I like the larger A-Optimus toy, though, 'cuz he's got the rifle and trailer and his size is more consistent with everybody else in the line.

Armada Prime. Toywise I prefer the Prime that came with Overrun. Like Prime being a Targetmaster.

Yes the PS2 game was the best version of Armada. Excellent game and cinematic cut scenes. A Cyclonus actually seemed menacing, better voice too. Hotshot and Red Alert were nicely portrayed too.

Plus love that scene where Prime interrogates Starscream. Nice to see him actually get ticked off and the music in that scene was just great.

Sorry to go off topic, just love that game. If only the game makers had made the cartoon series. Anyone who can make Armada seem that cool is a legend.
