from all the pictures of optimus prime by takara i seen online has darker red skin, but however hot until i saw prime with longer smakestacks and silver chrome on the grill, i know it's not the US version.
here's the picture
why does the takara mp-04 also appears to have lighter red skin??

So... both Takara versions of MP Prime are identical save that one comes with a trailer. These figures are, paint-wise, the same as the original 20th Prime released by Hasbro. The Movie version of Prime is red-orange and no where close to looking like the other three figures.
I'm lazy or I'd take pictures.

Nah, I think the pictures are just throwing him off. They do make the figure look lighter in color than he really is thanks to the light background.

Sometimes we want things so badly we can't help but believe they're out there when they really aren't. Those photos of the "Darker" Movie Prime are old Promo pictures pre-release of the product and may be the result of the photography. For example, a picture of Movie Prime still in box next to the Japanese MP-04:

I can assure that none of the Movie Releases were darker than the one you own. And yes it is a more washed out red leaning towards orange in color.
And as for a photo of the Orange Prime, one need look no further than Seibertron's galleries:
