If that's the official reason, Bay is so cheap.

I have no problems with the flame. But cutting insignificantly tiny cost on such a big budget film is plain cheap.

Yeah spend a few thousand dollars to repaint a semi to make it look bland instead of saving that money for a few more important things.

Could look bland.

But spending it to get it to the right color and design for the script, although bland, is more than reasonable. In fact, it's a must.

That is, IF the script calls for a red truck without flames.

The truck was custom built using two other perterbilts to make the one. Bay wanted flames (this has been said repeatedly). He got flames.

They said originally that the flames were to accent Prime's body, but c'mon. We all know the real reason. Bay wanted flames.

Considering he was the director, if he wanted ANYTHING he would have got it. Thats the point of being the director.

I like the flames and i never will understand all the crying over it, same with the lips thing.

Theres always gonna be a few die-hard G1 purists that are too obsessed with their beloved 25 minute toy commercials from the 80's to embrace or accept any change.

People complain, you live to deal with it.

I can understand the lips deal and the flames, because I whined about 'em too. Bur after seeing the film, I'm fine with 'em. I'd keep the flames, but still loose the lips. No matter how "realistic" Bay wanted them, I still feel the face plate was fine.

I think people on both sides need to chill down honestly. It makes for bad posting when all around the forums two people with different view point have to start arguments in every thread about the same thing until one or both end up being banned. It's nuts.

Why can't we all just get along? :-(

I thought it was cool. It gave him a sort of everyday-fellow 'hey-he's-one-of-us-regular-folks' vibe, like he's not some mythical figure but a person just like everybody else, just in some dang unusual circumstances.

Besides, he makes it look GOOD.

Did anyone else notice that the flames gave Optimus a slightly more contemporary look ALL WHILE MAINTAINING HIS PRECIOUS G1 COLOR SCHEME?!?!?!?

Bay went online to listen to the crying, whining fanboys (and girls) and actually pandered to them. He kept closely to the facial designs and the color scheme, he picked the Peterbilt because it was the largest semi--hence it would make Optimus a bigger robot--and, maybe some of you missed this, but he even got the original G1 voice actor to fill the part. The way you guys flame Bay, you'd think he didn't even consider and outright disregarded using Cullen and made Optimus a dump truck.

Sheesh.

It doesn't look like ****. The plain colors look awesome. Looks more realistic and muscular. You don't break up the lines and the bulkiness of the truck. Plain color makes it look bigger and more intimidating.

I'm not complaining about the flames. It looks ok to me. He's still prime.

I'm just stating my opinion that, he could have look better without it. I arrive at this opinion only after i saw Nightwatch (where the flames are not prominent) and seeing those actual trucks.

Yes. Exactly. It was Bay alone who caused the flames to be.

WTF is wrong with you people? I'm so sick of hearing "why is megatron not a gun" "why is soundwave not a tape player" and "why does optimus have flames". have any of you watched a G1 episode recently! I'm sorry but they suck. Its the sad truth! The show that got you into this movie, the show that started it all, sadley it sucks. And you know what sucks evne more? The toys themselfs!

Of all the 80's cartoons: Transformers, GI joe, Ninja turtles, he-man, Thundercats, only Thundercats is still watchable to this day! All you mother F***ers who think that the movie shoudl keep everything original why don't you go out and buy a season of G1 right now? hey the autobots can fly, no wait of course they can't, oh wait they can, wtf we dont' even know what we are talking about. We also have seven different orgin stories of where transformers came from.

I'm sorry G1 sucks. Hate to break it to all you noobs who hasn't followed Transformers since 1986 or so, but G1 sucks. Its the sad truth. don't believe me, why don't you go pick up G1 Ironide or Ratchet. I mean after all they look a HELL of a lot like the cartoon (sarcasm).

Seriously though, the movie would of been lame as hell if it was just a mimmick of G1. YES the character redesigns were necessary, YES optimus looks a 100 times beter with flames. whoever started this thread, I have news for you, you are some jackass newb who hasn't watched TF since the 1980's. gues what its 2007 now! what passed for a good show in 1984 doesn't pass for a good show in 2007!

Get over it seriously! Whats sad is this is not the first time OP appeared as a Peterbuilt Semi instead of a flatnosed Semi. G2 Laster OP was also a Peterbuilt, yet he was regarded as one of the best OP's of all time, and he wasn't even HALF as detailed as movie OP

Get over it people. If they would of kept everything G1 accurate the result would of been one crappy movie!

There I said it. I can only hope I'm still a member of this site after saying it.

That is why you have to be careful when starting an epic story. You have to get some details right.

Hasbro didn't expect their little toy commercial to grow into an epic.

Anyway, i'm glad it did. :)

By the way, my opinion on the "flames" has got nothing to do with G1. We can put all G1 stuff behind us. Assuming Transformers really started with the Movie 2007. I still think no flames looks better. It's more classic looking. Meaning, the design will last a very long time.

The truck with the flames looks good too. But kinda Wow-now boring-later kind of feel.

Like when you paint a car bright orange. It's very eye-catching and fashionable. But after a few months or a couple of years, it becomes corny, and loses to the ordinary black or silver car.

Something like that.

You can't expect everyone to comply with logic when Transformers are involved. We had anticipated the influx of new members and the potential havoc for the last year or so.

All we can really do is damage control and try to convince people to state their opinions in a civil way so the forums don't go to hell.

And you're rant hardly helped that effort BTW. /:)
