Why titanium 6 inch failed

Postby terrordive2020 » Mon Aug 06, 2007 1:02 pm

This is my take on why titanium 6 inch failed

First off terrible charascter choices RID Prime,Optimal prime, Soundwave, Rodimus Prime, Menasor as a Rodimus Repaint, Ultra Magnes and Marvel Megatron what the f##k. If they would have just stuck to War Within the line would have been an absolute success.

Second they stopped the line right before the good stuff got released arcee, Shockwave and the yet to be released WW Grimlock and Prowl.

If hasbro only took the time to listen to their customers they might get it right.

6" is still a great line to me. Like c'mon, it brought a cheaper and faster alternative to finding the actual figures of some characters like Rodimus.

And if you didn't know WWI Grimlock and Prowl are being released.

I have Tit, Scourge. However, I'm using him as a sweep, 'cause he's smaller than Scourge. This is the only Tit, I own. I do want The Fallen, however, I haven't found 'em cheap, and I think that it is only going to go up in price.

Jeez.

The REAL reason 6" Titanium failed is that Galoob didn't expect people to actually PLAY with them, and transform them back and forth, and thus the various joints had pretty durn loose tolerances. The people it was aimed at, the fans, got highly disgruntled by this, and stopped buying them. Later in the line they fixed that, but by then it was too late.

Not to mention the horrid distrobution. Several stores just stopped carrieing them altogether. And because most of them were unrecognizable people had little interest in them. There is a Wal-mart down the street that still has the first Megatron they released sitting on the shelves. I had to order WW Megs from BBTS to get him. Should have ordered The Fallen while I was at it.

I'd have bought the if the entire line was WW. The Prime/Megatron two-pack is awesome.

I liked the titanium Seekers. But I was not interested in anything else from that line.

Your terrible character choices are your opinion alone, not a fact. Menasor had no part in making the line 'fail', being released as an exclusive after the line had officially been declared done.

Titanium was a celebration of the entire line's history rather than just a single era.

If you didn't want them to stop the line then you should have supported it more. Wal-Mart was the one who killed Titaniums, not wanting to buy any more from Hasbro.

Yeah, you can't really blame bad character choices on the unsuccessful nature of any toy line. People are always hoping for new Hounds and Mirages and Smokescreens and Jazzes and Arcees. While I don't care for any of those characters, if I liked the figures I'd probably buy them. The one I don't get is Arcee.....for the life of me I can't figure why anyone cares about Arcee, or at least not to the extent that it seems she really has a rabid fanbase. God bless, Arcee fans, and I hope for all of your sakes they do use Classics 2/Universe to finally release an accurate and fan-approved Arcee figure, becuase out of everyone who cries out their figure demands, it's you who are the loudest, Arcee fans.
**Real Arcee fans of genius.....**
Anyhow, bad character selections can't be at fault for a lines' collapse, becuase ultimately it's the toys that sell the line. Let's face it now, Hot Shot has been a crappy character, basically Hot Rod lite and without any real personality, but the Cybertron Hot Shot figure at least was a pretty good one. I really like the 6" Titaniums, and am sad to hear that they are now of the past, but the initial ones were so maligned that the later and much better ones weren't enough to save the line. It's a quality issue mainly. Distribution too, as the first two 6"s came out like two years ago, and I have never seen a 6" Titanium figure in any Chicagoland retail outlet, EVER. I've gotten all mine on line.

Weapon: Sword
I saw a family at TRU the other day. A mom (who remained indifferent), a dad and two boys, about 7 & 9. They were shopping for a Transformer for the 9 year old.

The boy runs up to a Titanium Starscream and:

Boy - "Cool, Starscream!!!"

Dad - "Hey, I remember him from when I was a kid. Looks just like the one my friend had." Checks price.... "Hmmm, how about this monkey one over here. It says Optimus Prime." Dad points to the 20 Cybertron Primes that are about $5 cheaper.

Mom - Points to movie Legends class, "How about these little ones?"

Dad "Or how about these little Titanium figures. You can get Optimus Prime and Bumblbee. Two is better than one, right?"

Mom - "These Robot hero guys are kinda cute. What are these protoform things?"

Dad - They have these Cyber Slammers, Fast Action Battlers, Robot Fighters, and Real Gear guys. How about one of those?"

Boy - "I want Blackout"

Younger boy - "Oooh Blackout. He's a cool helicopter dude."

Boy - "Yeah dad, I want Blackout"

Dad - "He's too much, son. How about this other movie toy? His name is Wreakage."

Boy - "Who's that?"

Dad - "He's a Transformer and he is cheaper than Blackout."

Boy - "But I really want Blackout"

Mom - We're not spending $20 on a toy. Choose one or let's go."

Boy - "But can't I get Blackout? Please?" Starts to tear up.

Dad - "No. You can get one that is $10 or less."

Boy - "No, thanks. I don't want any of those. Can I wait and save up for Blackout?"

Dad - "Sure. When you have saved $10 more for Blackout you can get it."

Boy - "Can we get it now, and I can pay you back?"

Mom and Dad - "Nice try, son. No. When you save up $10 we'll get him then. I'm sure they will have plenty of them left."

The family leaves. Starscream loses. He cost more than the others and is lost in a variety of other choices. The Transformer market is flooded and the line had to go.

I Think Rodimus was a great choice, and was done amazingly well.

But I think what killed he line was what Lapse of Reason just pointed out. At any point during the life of the line there where more and cheaper alternatives.

Whether Cybertron, Classics or Movie. There was always something that was less expensive.

It was also the lack of good distribution. It was very hard to find them in stores.

I was surpised to see a single Tit. Rodimus amongst a see of Classics. Of course now we have a sea of Soundwaves.

In any case, it proved that lines aimed at Collectors don't really work in the business side of things.

Distribution killed them.

Only the horrific Wave 1 got a decent release, being available in TRU across Australia.

RID Prime, WWi Starscream, Soundwave and Rodimus were alsoi released here and there, but in very small numbers, and only RID Prime stayed around long.

Otherwise the only place you could get Titaniums in Australia was from a single online store.

It was not, and never will be good enough. The good figures, like Scourge, Fallen, Ultra Magnus etc did not even make it to stores, and Thundercracker and Jetfire were skipped altogether.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

I think they were great line, they were fan focused collectibles lost in a sea of cheap toys for kds.

I'm annoyed I never got Scourge when I had the chance, and the fact that WW Bumblebee, Arcee, Shockwave and Cosmos never got the green light is a real shame, you'd think those figures out of the whole line would be the one's fans want most and why didn't Hasblo know this and release those four with a good push?

Awell, aleast Prowl & Grimmy are coming(I want that Soundblaster too).

Has a release window been given for them?
