Sam ran up the building so the helicopters could see him.

1.) The city idea wasn't Bay's. It was in the original script that was leaked last year.

2.) It was a boneheaded move, and I cannot figure out why Rogers thought it would be a good idea, other than for bombastic scenes. (Which it provided)

All in all, it was an insanely stupid move. Hiding it somewhere inside the city was just retarded. (And that's exactly what Lennox and Keller came up with and decided on.) There was no base on the other side of the city, they meant to take it into the deepest part of downtown and hide it.

1.) Too many lives were put at risk.
2.) Hoover Dam was constructed to hide it. (It was needed too.)

Ridiculous. They disband Sector 7, but keep Keller and Lennox on as they are....yeah. That's a genius move.

Don't get me wrong, I liked both characters quite a bit, but wow. When dumb is dumb, I'll admit it.

Oh, one more thing... even if Megatron couldn't find the All Spark on his own, the convoy of heavily armed vehicles surrounding a 2009 Chevy Camaro concept car (none others in existence, except for the one Bumblebee scanned...) kinda sticks out, like a neon sign saying "THE CUBE'S RIGHT HERE! RIGHT FRIGGIN' HERE CHIEF!" Oooh. "Gee, I wonder where it is Starscream?"

Moments that make you go "Bwah?"

Yeah. Brainless move. Who would want to bring a war into the city?

Yep.
Too much collateral damge, too many people, high death toll.
Bad strategy.

The Movie is full of effects and dramatics. Some of them really good ones.
But the story and sense of logic is really screwed.

That was what it was like in the script? Maybe Foster changed the scene in his novel then, which made more sense. :/

I just put it all down to adrenaline rushing and nobody can really think straight when they are being attacked by giant f'ing robots.

Hopefully the sequel can make atleast SOME sense.

TF Movie won't survive to TF3 if they don't put some sense into TF2.

That and a bigger budget and a more powerful graphics engine. For more bots of course.

I think the strike might actually do some good for them to think things over.

Most Decepticons are indestructible flying beasts!

Who would have thought of such egg-head strategy???

Before that scene came out, at the time when Sam was being told to go up a white building... I was already laughing inside my head. "Are these guys seriously brain-dead???"

Why couldn't he have escaped inside one of the autobots. If a helicopter was coming to pick him up, Starscream or Megatron could have easily shot it down

And why would Megatron have to ask him for the cube, he could have just smashed the building and let both of them fall, I'm sure the cube would have survived

Bumblebee couldn't handle all the Decepticons on his own. He would've been slaughtered. As crazy as it sounds, the Sector 7/Army escort was needed. Not to mention, riding in one of the Autobots would make for an easy target.

After 10,000+ years, interstellar travel, and the fact that they don't know everything about the Cube, they've no idea whether or not the Cube would survive the fall. Even Megatron would worry about that.

But all in all it's as simple as this: It was written so they could have a massive blow stuff up scene at the end. What better way to do that than to destroy the downtown section of a city? Worked for other movies, worked for this one too.

If it survived entry into the atmosphere I'm sure it could handle falling off the building and I'm almost certain he would stand a better chance of survival riding in side a transformer than a helicopter; Worst case he can exit the vehicle, and the robots can slug it out versus a helicopter which would basically be a flying duck. You are correct in saying they just wanted to end with an explosion-gasm but they could have executed it better, their logic just does not make sense.

It survived the fall through the atmosphere because it was the size of a three story building. When Sam was running around with it, it was a little bigger than a Gamecube.

I do agree that the whole "Let's hide it in the city!" "Brilliant!" idea was a little tarderific.

All the more reason why it would survive, if that gigantic cube compressed down to the size of a game cube then it either a. all its components shrunk keeping it essentially the same just a smaller size or b. All its components got compressed into the smaller size. Either way if it survived planet fall then falling off the building shouldn't phase it

You got my drift! :) Ride inside Ironhide, and take the Allspark to Optimus Prime! Where else can you take it?

It may not be the safest choice to give the Allspark to Prime's care, but that's the best chance you've got. Nowhere else! Period.

Not necessarily bigger budget. If you cut out all those super close up transformation shots - where you can see all the little ding-a-lings inside Prime's ear - you would at least relieve more than 90% of the computer's graphics load.

Zoom out. Get the big picture. Let us all enjoy the full view of the transformations.

Then take all those savings in time and cost, and give it to additional bots for the sequel.

5 bots with zoom out shots should be way easier to process than one super close up shaky shot of Prime.
