TakaraTomy's I-sobot will retail for about $250 this October. Which probably means in another couple of years they'll be able to half that price, and you'll start to see variations on the theme. Technology moves fast.

If they could make a transformer robot for double the price of a Masterpiece, I'd buy it. If they can get it down to masterpiece cost, they'll have a winner.

It will be interesting to see a TF toy automatically transforms by itself.

I'm not sure though if it will be more fun or not.

Well, true, it would basically be a gimmick. But an awesome gimmick nonetheless. Much of the fun of transformers for me lies in the tactile quality, where you directly manipulate them, whereas robots would be a bit more 'hands off'.

But that's not to say robot transformers wouldn't be a lot of fun. Imagine if you could program 2 of them to interact in a mock battle. Or you could have groups of autobots walk around in formation, changing direction, looking back and forth at each other, then transform and roll out in convoy behind Optimus.

I'm probably getting ahead of things here.

This is like saying video games will wipe out transformers. A talking boy robot won't compete with am entire toy line with a tv show and other novelties.

This will go to the wayside just like all the other novelty "robot" toys like furby and the creepy-ass chimpanzee head that I think is still in stores.

Sure, the Aibo already does that, but it moves too slow and it's reaction time is terrible. Robots don't need faces to be expressive, look at Shockwave, or even Optimus Prime.

Shoot, I vote Soundwave for that.

It's surely just a matter of time before this technology makes it's way into transformers.

I'm sure some of you have seen this working robotic transformer:

Here's a different one:

And an Optimus Prime robot:

I seriously can't wait for the day one of these goes into production.

Wow, they are really cool!!! My personal Favorite is the optimus prime..If that type of Tech could be refined and squeezed inot say the size and look of the Masterpiece version, and was moderately affordable, i'd buy one.. sheesh!! to think of what they could do!!!It's the cartwheel and the one footed stand that really got me, and he's fricken cute, much more cute then that stupid freakishly creepy Zeno!!

honestly I thought this thread had died some time ago, great discussions guys.. that's the point of a topic, see where it can lead...some of you guys come out of the woodwork and finally make comments.. nice to see ya!!!

Takara-Tomy's i-sobot is just over 6 inches, which is a bit smaller than an alternator, so my bet is they could squeeze this technology into something along the lines of a masterpiece. Of course he is Optimus Prime. He doesn't need the ability to cartwheel. Cool trick though.

B-) Dude... I'm posting from the future. I set my computer's clock back to 2007. I just picked up some 20th anniversary movie deluxe reissues and I've been digging through the seibertron archives to see what you all thought of them, back in the day.

Robotic transformers are pretty cool. So far I've only got like five of 'em, but it's enough that they can march around and encircle my cat. Then they fire off a few spring loaded missiles and kitty doesn't know what's what.

Optimus and Bumblebee are totally awesome, but Smokescreen has a badly designed shoulder joint, and he keeps getting his hand caught between pieces of the outer shell when he's supposed to transform. Then when he's supposed to roll out, his elbow drags off the ground and he just winds up going around in circles.

Damn you Hasbro-Mattel!! :HEADHURTS:
