Fair enough but those guys still started small and worked into bigger projects. This is Omega Supreme we're talking about here.

Why don't they just show us the whole thing to prove that it's going to be worth it?

Fansproject is not Maketoys. At most, they share a designer.

They're fvcking idiots if that's the case. Why would an established, trusted group use an unknown alias and make it look like you were a newcomer to sell something with a huge price tag? To help sell less product?

Surprisingly, I prefer the space train-battleship thingy.

The alt-mode picture looks good, but that pre-order price is just too much for me and my intended buying over the next half year.

My only hope is that the arms are well constructed and have industrial strength ratcheting. The forearms/fists/rocket/claw just look to bulky to be attached to something that slim.

So we are left with 2 WFC/FOC homages, neither of which particalarly fit the 'classics' aesthetic, but it looks like one will be half the price of the other. HasTak wins this one. On a split points decision!

Looking at the BBTS preorder... "shipping weight 11.20 pounds"!? Holy crap.

Yep, just read that in my inbox. It's too bad but I can see why. It appears to be an exact replica of the WfC character model for Omega Supreme and Hasbro and/or High Moon could certainly pursue legal action if they chose to. BBTS, being based in the US, has to be a lot more careful about that kind of thing than other etailers.

I think this is probably more likely a case of BBTS not wanting to get stuck with a bunch of $350, 11lb, 3rd party figures that could have some serious QC issues (have these guys made anything else?). I mean, they still have various devies from Maketoy and TFC.

You could be right, but those 3rd party Devies aren't anywhere near 100% exact representations of the characters they're supposed to homage. That Omega Supreme looks exactly like WfC Omega Supreme in both modes, down to the placement of the panel lines and gun turrets.

It's also possible that BBTS just doesn't expect to sell that many after seeing a low uptake of preorders given the fact the Hasbro will soon be releasing a G1 colored Energon Omega Supreme.

I would agree with your assessment. Anybody remember Sonicron? At least he was only $60, but BBTS had him on clearance for about half off for the longest time. I'd hate to know how much was lost on this guy (even though I purchased one at full price). I still think the forearms are going to be too heavy to support properly (a la City Commander's BFG).

Maybe if this company produced a few prototypes and had them make the rounds for about a month to get feedback, folks would feel more secure in their investment. Whether or not this changes BBTS' decision to carry the product remains to be seen.

Like I said before, this is another unknown, unproven 3P company. They needed to prove they could design and produce a good, small toy before taking on a project this big. It's no one's fault but theirs; their ambitions wound up biting them in the a$$. I don't blame BBTS at all for pulling out of this-it was one bad review away from being a total retail dud especially with YOTS Supreme looking so promising.

How much demand would this thing actually generate anyway? $350 for something that looks that bad.......looks like sound business sense from BBTS to me. And the IP issues......too close to home.
