HC was banned because he pitched a fit instead of complying when asked to remove a signature that was getting people heat at work. If it had been a heterosexual couple in the signature, with the same sexual overtones, it would have happened anyway.
In fact, a good portion of the staff, IIRC, liked the signature, and no one disliked it, but the aim of the staff is to maximize accessibility of the site for as many users as possible. HC's having that signature was preventing other posters from accessing the site, where as not having it really shouldn't have been a problem for him. In spite of this he pulled his rebel-without-a-cause shtick out, instead of just saying 'yeah, okay, I understand'. After years of being an obstinate asshole, constantly pushing the limits of the sites rules and giving the staff grief over every single small thing, years of derailing and spamming threads, and years of repeatedly expressing his contempt for the authority that struggles to keep the peace on the website, he was finally banned.
The only inequity involved was that the staff gave him so much leeway, letting him basically walk all over them for years, simply because he was popular. Most other posters that carried on the way he did probably would have been banned within their first month.
I'm really **** tired of hearing the 'HC got banned because the staff is homophobic' bullshit, because that is 100% not true. Saying such is essentially libel against the staff members of this site, and should probably be regarded as harassment.
But hey, like HC a lot of people on the site like you (maybe almost as many as you think), and would pitch a fit if the admins actually did anything about your behavior, so I guess you've still got another year or two slamming the mods and spreading lies before your cantankerousness finally outweighs your popularity to the point that one of our warm and fuzzy admins actually penalizes you for it.

"Smart ads". Their cookies track you around the net, gathering your interests, combine that with where you are and they produce ads targetted to your location and interest.
If it makes you feel better, as an Australian, for some reason I get a lot of Chinese dating ads.
The only evidence I've really seen so far of their intelligence is that, in my HMW registry it pops up an ad for a 'which mythological monster are you' quiz, and in my wife's HMW registry it pops up an ad for a greek god quiz. (My team of course is "The Progeny of Echidna" and hers is the "Olympians".)
Right now I have a Pizza Hut ad and the typical ad for electrical transformers.
Doesn't seem to track my cookies very well, mostly seems to focus on the text on the site.
Edit: I do get a lot of McCain ads come to think of it, which I suppose could be due to cookies from liberal websites. I always just assumed he bought more Google ads...
