Redbird

Postby jimsloth » Sat Oct 06, 2007 3:21 pm

So I have to share this story. My niece loves Batman. Loves. She just turned five, and she knows all about the many Robins there have been, and when asked what she wants to be when she grows up, she says Robin. She says all the others are just holding her place. Skip ahead. Her dad buys a car. Not the nicest car in the world, just one to get him from point a to b. A red '97 Cavalier. She in turn names it Redbird (the name of Robin's car). Months later Transformers is coming out in theaters. In preparation, her dad shows her the first season and a half or so of G1. She loves them. Then Loves the movie. Afterward she asks her dad if transformers really exist. She asks him if maybe their car might not be a transformer. He asks her why she might think this. Her response... how many other peoples cars have names? (completely forgetting that she was the one who gave it the name)

So for her, I found about the only TF I could think of that looked remotely like a cavalier, micromasters Roadhandler, and shaved away some of the mold details. I repainted his chest and head with green and black so he's more Robin colors, and painted some details on the car mode as well as scribed in a few extra lines (like a back door). I still need to clear coat it for durability, and maybe sharpen up a few details (the zoom of these pictures shows me things I can't see in real life), but its about done.

paint really isn't thick. Not perfect crisp edges, but not thick. Just remember that a micromaster is about a third the size the picture is showing up on your screen. The R on the chest looks ok in the picture, but when you hold the thing and see that its only about half the size the head of the screw... I'm surprised it came out that well.

Looks cool to me! Maybe next, you can make your niece a robin motorcycle. Perhaps out of a movie Arcee. She probably ought to have a batman too.

I'm assuming you mean a batmobile transformer, in which case your right, I should. I am already bashing Marvel Legends figs into both a Batman and a Robin (teenage version of her). Paintings going well, just need to find sculpting material.

Yarr... Cyb Megatron and Movie Arcee... or scaled down, maybe Classics Rodimus might be moddable into a Batmobile (he's been used for everything else...), with either Energon Arcee or Cyb Ransack for Robin's bike.

Nicely done fig, and a cute backstory. Love the little touches, like the tiny eyemask! 8)

thanks, and now that I think about it, I believe I still have a little matchbox sized bat mobile from Batman The Movie (1st Tim Burton one). Maybe I'll just scrap apart a micromaster or a minicon and add it to that so it can be in the same approx. scale with redbird.

I think a Energon Prowl would make a decent batmobile, if you weren't looking for any specific scale.
