REMOVE THE BATTERIES FROM TRANSFORMERS MOVIE TOYS LEADER CLASS
Hi there, I had bought the Leader Class Optimus Prime, Megatron and Brawl for my collection. I am a MIMB collector and therefore, not intended to get the figures out from their boxes. However, I started to worry that one day the batteries will start leaking acid and they will all gone. So I have decided to take the figures out from the boxes and remove the batteries. Before I do that, can anyone tell me where is the batteries slot for each figure? Is it possible for me to just remove the batteries whilst the twisties and the tray inside remain intact? If not, are there any other ways that I can do it? Please help me out here. Thank you.

i believe you are going to have to at least partially "un-twisty" all the toys. prime's batteries are located in the fuel tanks.

Thanks, Tweezy

You're pretty much stuck with leaving the figures as is if you want them to remain MISB. There's no way around it, you're stuck. Plus with the design of the packaging, once you open it, it's mintiness will definitely devalue. (It's such an awkward packaging design...)
Optimus: Fuel tanks (he'll have to be partially (if not most of the way) removed from the inner tray and twists just to access that part of him.
Megatron: Tail fin (there's a panel on the underside, faces you in robot mode, right behind his thighs) and he might not need to be completely removed from the tray, but the legs will definitely have to be moved at least a little bit out of the way before you can access it.
Brawl: Turret (there's a panel on the underside of the main turret) He'll have to be completely removed to get access to those batteries for removal.
No offense to you, but this is one of the reasons I don't collect MISB. Too many issues such as this one, to worry about. Besides, these guys are meant to be freed from their prisons! They're meant to be enjoyed!

Yeah if I was going to anthropomorphize toys, I'd like to think they would be quite happy to be freed from their boxes so that they could entertain their new owner, who they hope will treat them well!
That is why I love my Autobots the most, especially Prime and Bumblebee.

I collect MISB too, but these guys are going to have to be removed to get at the batteries, so no minty mint condition to be had in 20 years because of the cheap batteires leaking.

So after all of this...
What have MISB collectors decided to do? I am trying to think hard on this as well, but would help if I knew given the information above, what do fellow MISB collectors intend:
Remove batteries and lose MISB status?
Or keep batteries in till they go dead, leak, and the Try Me button won't work so it can't really be considered new anyway?

I've decided to simply keep him in the box for now... I'll probably take him out every now and then... which is why I've decided to abandon any thought of MISB by buying only one set of Leader class figures for myself...
unless you plan on selling the Leaders within the next 5 years or so, I would say MISB with battery corrosion is much worse than an opened MIB. Have you ever seen AA batteries leak? If left unattended, the entire battery compartment can become crusted with dried white battery acid... messy and not exactly easy to clean up... oh and the battery contacts will be corroded themselves as well... I've left a few remote controls unattended for years and when I finally get around to replacing the batteries, the battery compartment is a bee-yotch to clean.

Yup. I've had one Leader Brawl MISB while waiting for another to arrive to play with. It's taken tremendous willpower to do this, but now I have a reason to open this one first. Pity though, the box is in great condition.

I think it varies from toy to toy... some batteries will leak and others may not leak for a very long time... it is just common sense to change out the batteries once they are dead... batteries do not last forever.

How long have you had Trypicon? Also, do you know what batteries they use?
Can I assume that as long as the feature work when the button is pressed means that the batteries should still be ok?
Damn... to think I just opened my Leader Brawl not 5 minutes ago!!!

Trypticon didn't come from the factory with batteries. They were included by whoever he received the figure from. The batteries are two C cell batteries.
The batteries most likely are still fine if the feature's working after a certain point. However, while the batteries might be intact, they could be close to a rupture, so it wouldn't be such a bad idea to consider replacing them.
Your Leader Class Brawl figure and his batteries are in perfect working order, no worries at this present time about leaking or rupture occurrences.
You'll be just fine.

I know it's a stupid question (similar to when someone asks me how long must he exercise before he can get a six pack) but... how long do you think I have for my other Leader MISBs before the batteries run out, and I need to remove them?
It seems like in this line, there will be no MISBs for leader toys more than 5 years later!

It really depends on the materials in the batteries. They're usually GP branded ( http://www.GPBatteries.com/ ) and they're either Alkaline, or Heavy Duty.
If they're HD, you're in luck, HDs work great for flashlights that run constantly and for long shelf life. They're not good for electronic items such as watches, remotes, etc. They're meant for constant running. Not intermittent. (Generally last a long time. I've had the same set of HDs in my Superbase Armada Optimus Prime since 2004 and they've held up just fine. Whereas the Alkalines in Energon Ironhide corroded and leaked after a while.)
If they're Alkaline, they last a long time during usage, constant intermittent usage like a remote or a toy, but once used their shelf life quickly dwindles. (Which could lead to quicker leakage/rupture.)
Most companies send items like these, out with HD batteries. (They're half the price, sometimes even lower in comparison to Alkalines) If that remains the case with these, you should be just fine for a few good years. Technically batteries can last upwards of five to six years on shelves if never used. (Look at the date on an Duracell...)

Truth, on both counts. Looking at the movie line packages the wrong way will destroy them......
And open them toys!
