Say this was the very first Transformers incarnation...

Postby Keeperofthespark » Thu Apr 17, 2008 12:24 am

Okay let's pretend that Transformers didn't exist till the 2007 movie was released and while not knowledgible about the series you saw it. Following the movie toys are finally produced as are comics and a an animated TV show. Would you, after seeing the movie and witnessing Transformers for the first time ever and it being it's very first form, become a fan of the franchise and not purchase products of it and watch the cartoon based or inspired by it?

Motto: "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings to randomly click things in the Admin Panel to see what it breaks."
I would have watched it, bought the dvd, but that's probably as far as I would have gone.

My interest in TF's is based in my childhood, that's lead me to being a collector of "kids toys".

So why wouldn't I be inspired to collect these new toys? Simple. If I weren't collecting TF's i'd be collecting something more "adult" like antiques or heaven forbid, saving my money! :P

In that horrible alternate reality I wouldn't have picked up anything but the dvd and maybe a few of the figures. A lot of my TF purchases are based on if I like the look of a character and somewhat off my childhood memories. I know I wouldn't have picked up Starscream or Ratchet because I only got them for the G1 Deco.
All I can really say for certain is I pity that poor poor me of that reality for not having roughly 23 years of Transformers in his life. Though he does have more money for G.I. Joes and Star Wars toys.
"What are you?" That's what the woman asked me. Am I some sort of ghost? I still move. I still breathe. I'm still alive.

main reason I collect TFs is cus I liked them as a kid.
If I like something now, I usually only pick up the DVD, with Transformers as an exception.
So I wouldn't even care if there was a new show, I just thought it was a cool movie.
though I also might have never watched it at all.

but if I saw this as a kid, I would've thought Animated's designs werent great, but still had good stories and was fun. Cus when I saw Spiderman as a kid, I thought the costume he wore in the comics and cartoons were way too simple... but because of good writing and being funny, and just being labeled Spiderman, I liked it.

I would have seen the movie, get the DVD, and maybe I would get the game.

Of course, I might have even had a real social life, but that's another story.

Yes, I would have been a fan yet it seems like some others posted already tainted their responses a little with G1 memories.

I would not have gotten in to the comics or every little thing related to the movie as I've never been much of a comic fan at all even as a kid and as far as the animated show goes well I'll leave that as a maybe for now.

The figures for the movie most definitely yes but they would remain in the packaging.

I'm 19 and got into TF collecting by late Cybertron, so my bond with G1 or anything long-established in the TF universe isn't that great. Since I already collected toys long before Cybertron got my interest, it's a pretty safe bet I would've checked out the TF movie toys and see the movie as a result.

Since it's my favorite look for Transformers, both within fiction and with the toys, I probably would've liked it the same. There isn't that much of the original characters that isn't already made clear within the film. Prime is well-developed and the other Autobots manage to get their single-dimensional characters across with a few minutes, with no need for dozens of years of G1 material. The constant bitching between Megatron and Starscream is the only thing that I would've missed out on, since it's just one line.
