So here is Movie Blitzwing, I still need to paint him, but i reckon for a sketch he is pretty nifty!

Hmm, pretty good i like his overall upper torso design but his legs look too small and bird like and look like they might snap. Maybe if you bulked em up a bit it would look better. Im not a fan of that animalistic type of leg and foot design anyway, i dont know what the official term for it is. Is it anthropomorphic or something like that?

I kinda wanted him to look very top heavy with large shoulders and tiny legs, sorta aping the Movie seeker design. I coulda just drawn him in a similar style to the movie bots (all loose plates and wires) but i felt that it was important to keep him inline with the others structurally, to keep the movie flavor-make him look truly alien

Here's my Sludge. I thought that he's wear a brachiosaurus well. He shoots a laser out of his forehead nostril.

Can I ask a really stupid question? Please don't make fun of me, cause I'm a technotard, ok! Are you guys drawing these on paper, then scanning them onto your computer and using a program to paint them? I've never done anything more than regular hand-drawn, hand-colored pictures, and I'd like mine to at least be as nicely colored as these are (even if they are drawn like poo).

I draw mine with blue pencil and then go over them with pen, i then set the old scanner to black and white and scan, that removes the blue! For colour if i want it pure colour and cartoony i just use windows paint, it sucks out it works, if i want deeper color i print out the picture and go to town using paint and inks, which i then re-scan.

So here is a sketch with the blue pencil

Here is the same one again but with the pen and then scanned

and here it is coloured!

finally here is some of the cartoony stuff coloured in windows paint-the difference is pretty obvious, but it is useful depending on what ya need it for!

That's exactly how I do it. I start with sketching on printer paper..then once I get to where I like how it looks, I'll redraw it in a sketchbook (although, normally, I don't use sketch books, but in this case it gave me more room). Then I ink it by hand, scan it, and color it in Corel Draw. I am not very adept at coloring in Photoshop, and I kinda cut my teeth with vector-art based software, so that's whats easiest for me.

Soooo...long story short: it's all hand-drawn and hand-inked up until I color, in which I use a computer.

Here's what my initial Onslaught sketch consisted of, and actually, I liked the head sketch so much, I went ahead and inked it and used it.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I don't know how to do the painting stuff, but I'd like to learn. Obviously, you guys know your stuff. I might try this little contest if I don't complete ashame myself with my drawing, but keep in mind that it will be extremely amateurish. We'll see. Let me sketch a bit and see where it goes.

Well my personal process is a bit like this:
1) I sketch the piece to how it want it on normal printer paper
2) Then i photocopy it but make the image darker.
3) I use a layout pad to go over the main lines with fine-tip black pen.
4) Then i scan in the perfect/almost perfect line drawing.
5) Open photoshop, work my magic and then add any additional effects that may be needed using filters etc.

I use Photoshop alot in my career so i find it pretty easy now but i remember how intimidating it was. Anyway so thats my usual process for quick stuff like my Sunstreaker. The process took about 30 mins overall (if you exclude figuring how he would transform, i which case add another hour  ) If i was doing something more important i would have a few more steps than i've put above for refining and detailing. What is Corel Draw like? I haven't used that for years!

Ehh...it's alright. I prefer Illustrator over it, but Corel gets the job done. I have Corel on my home computer, but I use Illustrator at work. Both are vector based, but Illustrator just seems easier to use, and it's more compatible with Photoshop, which Corel isn't.

I was basically taught computer graphics with Corel, so I don't think I'll ever totally stop using it, but Illustrator is the way to go I feel.

I've tried teaching myself Photoshop, and came away with some decent results...but it took me two hours to color something that would've taken me 15 minutes to color in Corel/Illustrator, so I just said the hell with it.

I just draw the sketch with a mech pencil, refine it, add detail, clean it up with an eraser, ink it, scan it and then color it in photoshop.

I admit, it's more of an animation redesign than a movie design, but hell, it's always a good time to draw pictures of Dinobots!
Speaking of cuteness, awesome Wheelie Cycrolus. You might just make me say "Wheelie friend!"

Well, I got started late last night and all I really got was a basic body sketch and a more detailed head. So he doesn't have a definite anything. I might try working on it tonight to see if it goes anywhere. I don't know if I'll make him a tape cassette....but he'll definitely have the arm thing going on. If it's not a total disaster, I'll post it and enter the contest.
