Today, I bin relaxin. Watching junk with coffee (then rum lol). I've now opened up all my POTP's and got some thoughts.

Swoop is the standout Dinobot. His dino mode is great, his bot mode is great, limbs aren't great because (on my copy anyways) staying together doesn't seem to be one of his priorities :roll:

Grimlock is SO close to being amazing. I'm convinced that 100% of his flaws come from the combining shoehorn. Le sigh.

Slag is ok. Nothing much to say other than he's serviceable.

Jazz is surprisingly good! But again, I might have a bum copy because he doesn't want to stay solidly together in car mode. He does something really impressive though: he's a combiner limb, and doesn't feel compormised in any way. C/G Jazz is still superior, but this one will do just fine if you don't want to backtrack.

Starscream was surprising. I thought I'd have no time for him, but he's alright. Jet is kinda bubbly, bot mode is a little chunky, torso might be the weirdest one yet but works pretty well. And damn, Brutiscream rules all 8-)

Slash is neat! Worth a buy for the price. Windy seems dull, but is a lot of fun.

And here's the clear winner so far, of Wave 1:

I don't have much to say about Beachy besides... he's great. Get'im.
Dready. He might just be another remold, but he's got a parts count I thought I'd never see in a deluxe again. It might be the colors, or nostalgia, but I am simply smitten with this one

You mean God Ginrai in general or the LGEX specifically? Cause I haven't opened the EX yet.

Generally speaking, he's aight. All combined up, he doesn't quite meet my expectations. He's serviceable, but it bugs me how that backpack sits up so high, it looks weird. And I wish he were more posable. But if they make a Nucleon Quest or Fire Guts version, I will promptly wet my pants :lol:

It's great to hear your impressions of wave1 of PotP, Shaj -- Dreadwind & Slash are my personal favorites. I think you may dig the Prime Masters, too, but they certainly can't top the Deluxe figures in terms of overall design.

As I held Grimlock in my hand the other day, I was so tempted -- I dig his face in bot and alt modes, his bot mode is decent enough....but dino mode held me back.

Swoop is my favorite of the original Dinobots. His head doesn't snap in all the right places to keep him secure, but I really enjoy him anyway.

Do you plan on picking up Roddy and Optimus?

There was a way to move the wings down so they were more G1 like. I just opened my big God Ginrai chromed out version with Minerva and Cab, and have him standing in his combined glory on my bar right now. I'll see if I can fiddle with him and take a pic of the wings in a lower configuration...

Yeah... like I said Grim is SO CLOSE to greatness. Robot mode is pretty great. Both those head sculpts are fantastic as you mentioned. I was totally willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but because of the combining junk his Rex mode is awkward.

OHREALLY? I have seen pics of such floatig arund, but I thought it was the work of a PE upgrade kit. Would be super nice to see how its done!

Man. With all the stuff I buy from the internets, I'm pretty patient when it comes to shipping. I almost never inquire about the status of things, or check the tracking, mainly because I think it would drive me nuts. But this guy? He needs to get here NAOW. #-o

I thought I saw a pic from before any upgrade kit, but I really don't remember. I can say that I am having a devil of a time figuring out an alternative. Prime's anatomy keeps getting in the way. I mean, really, is it necessary for him to have arms?

People don't like him? Huh... I don't venture much into the big threads so that's surprising news to me. If it weren't for the QC issues on mine, he'd be perfect and I'd say easily the best of the S1 Autobot's made into combiners.

Well.

Even though it was a 3 day work week, I managed to work 40 hours still, then another 9 yesterday. I am freakin tired I-)

Ag! Thanks for the sleuthing and pics! It's interesting for sure, but I think the lessened stability might not be worth it. Also, with them lower, you almost can't see them behind his arms! Weird :lol:

But I have been playin around. Damn. This is what "premium" feels like. For what he can do, he's relatively small but feels like a city-former (if that makes any sense). All I've really done is get him in his forwards and backwards robot mode, and trying to incorporate all pieces together.

I've been relaxing at home today, playin around with everything I've been ignoring because of life and work.

Well... I haven't opened Optimus yet, but I cracked Roddy open ASAP. He's... interesting. Hotrod bot mode, not bad. Posable enough, double elbows help, and the windsheild butt flap doesn't bug me. Hotrod car mode, is a shame how close to good he is. He looks pretty good, but has little gaps here and there that just ruin it. "Ruin" might be dramatic though... its just kind of a bummer.

Roddy Prime's bot mode functions quite nicely. He's bulky, surprisingly posable, and the backpack don't bother me. Aesthetically is another story. Those shoulders. I wish there was something to hide those Hotrod thighs *sigh*. Roddy Prime's alt mode... it can be a pain to get there, and is seemingly flimsy, but once you got all the tabs tabbed then he's pretty solid. But the alt mode issues carry over: gaps. On top of that he doesn't have much for flat surfaces (roof, front of trailer).

One other thing: there's two shades of red plastic between Hotrod and the trailer stuff. WHY??!!!

He leaves me mixed. Maybe we(I) just expect too much? Cause look at it on paper: he's a 60 dollar figure (that's in CAD to you Yanks

) who pulls off 4 modes. Two separate robot modes, and two separate vehicle modes. All done rather decently in spite of all my complaining. Maybe it's my rose colored glasses, I got a lot of love for the character, but I'd recommend him.
