It was about 30-40 mins too long. the explaination of Megan Fox's absence was lame and destroyed the emotional core of human involvement that the trilogy was going for (glad I didnt shell out the dough for 3d as the new chick's lips were terrifying enough without jumping out of the screen). And Megatron vs Prime was cut down to about 10 seconds.

Like the others, not a good movie, but I got to see big robots punching, and stabbing, and decapitating each other!

Yes I have to concur w/u there...After reading the spoiler about Ironhide's death at Sentinel Prime's hand made me very upset, angry and i just cried. I hope that I dont stand up in the theatre and scream Noooo!!! when Ironhide dies... I knew Sentinel would do something bad, but at the time I could not put my finger on it. He has the same personality like he was in G1 and G2, a total jerk and im being nice here. I'd kill Sentinel, that traitor, as well for that he did to Ironhide; as Ironhide is my Favourite Character... after all I have a 2006 Black TopKick w/stacks exactly like Ironhide's Vehicle! w/his name on his licence plate and the Autobot Emblem on his back tailgate (not the same one from BotCon, as mine is nicer). I'll feel strange getting into my Topkick knowing that the character is dead....I hope that they bring Ironhide back! Probably not... I have yet to see the movie, wont be able to see it till July 7th. :(

That's what I did! And I had my 3D Optimus Prime mask on and took it off and threw it at the screen.

Maybe not that last part.

:BOT: I too have my 3D Optimus Prime mask too, but it wont fit over my glasses... no contacts here... I'll have to use those 50s style glasses to see it in 3D. I just know I will do something when Ironhide dies horribly, i will be known in that Phoenix 3D IMAX theatre. Im in one of those photos w/all of us in the Hall of Fame Ceremony w/my Optimus Prime Mask on. I was so shocked to see my mug in one of those photos at BotCon! :BOT:

I usually don't have a lot to say in regards to movie reviews. And DOTM is no different.

I'll start out by saying I over-appreciated the reat shots of Rosie while in just shirt and panties. A bit out of place for a movie that should be family oriented. But there you have it. I could have sworn I heard alot of guys swoon during scene.

But for the first time, while watching a movie for the first time I actually spotted an inconsistancy towards the end. Simmon's assistant/butler was wearing a neck brace for a time, and then he wasn't. And I know there couldn't have been so much time passing that his neck had recovered from the incident that made him get one. He should have been wearing one for the rest of the movie and not just the immediate scenes after that incident.

I love the final scene during end credits when Simmons kisses the National Defense what's-her-name? His final comments made my day. That was funnier than Leston's "I didn't sign up for this."

Finally watched this yesterday evening, and I have to say I'm of mixed feelings of this movie. While yes the action sequences, and the robot fighting is awesome, the destruction is in awe inspiring grand scale, and the robots are very cool, that's all I can find to like about this movie.

Their plot is almost non existent, the flow of the movie gets abruptly stopped in several places by the god awful comedic scenes with the parents and the office. Which most of the time aren't that funny. And the sad under developed characters, you hardly get to know any of the transformers. Also editing is very very badly done. That scene with Sentinel mashing the Nest compound and then suddenly driving off in truck mode is baffling to say the least.

Also what was up with John Malkovich's Character, I mean he can deliver so much more than that. He would have been better as Archeville. And Dr. McDreamy seriously not believable as the bad guy, I'm sorry. Though He does work as the guy to steal the hot girlfriend away from Shia.

By the way I did think Ironhide's death scene at the mercy of the Cosmic Rust from Sentinels weapon was awesome, and very much not appropriate for children.

Anyway the movie left me wanting more characterization for many of the transformers mainly Soundwave and Shockwave. Why is Leadfoot a fat plumber stereotype. with the visible butt-crack, seriously is that supposed to be funny?

And can someone explain why Megatron suddenly goes into Robot depression, and just sits out the final battle until Rosie manages to reverse Psychology him into attacking Sentinel. That was really really strange to me, as up to that point he had been the master behind the entire Sentinel deal. And since when is Megs concerned about his planet, he just wants to conquer all, not save his planet.

Anyway, I don't think its a good movie, just a summer popcorn flick. But sadly I found you need a lot of TF knowledge before hand to get more than half of the movie.

Well, Megatron wasn't entirely in the right state of mind the whole movie. I actually thought that was one of Megatron shining moment, and thought it was meant to show that he is more than just your typical bad guy. In TF1 and TF2 he did show concern for the revival of his home planet. I thought they might actually try some actual good story telling as he looked up, having realized that he has made a deal with a far superior foe that has now removed him from command, he gazes up on Cybertron with at least the comforting fact that Cybertron will be restored to its former glory because of his actions. That's all shot to hell when he get axed by a one-armed and badly damaged Optimus Prime in a mere 10 seconds of uncharacteristic brutality.

Here's my take. I agree with many of the criticisms Seibertron posed. That said, since I saw the first two movies, I wasn't surprised by those elements. Like the upskirt thing hellkitty mentioned--and by the way, a lot of us men find those scenes completely gratuitous. They're a waste of screentime and I for one just want to get on with the story. It's a mistake to think that a director's (or producer's) childish whims are representative of what the audience wants.

As far as humor goes, I didn't laugh a single time this movie, so all the attempted jokes were failures in my book. But they appear to have learned their lesson from Revenge of the Fallen as they very quickly moved on from the failed jokes back into the movie instead of rubbing salt into the wounds.

Finally, the giant tentacle thing was nothing more than gratuitous special effects. And I really don't understand the fascination with tentacles in these movies, not to mention so many other computer graphics action movies, like Pirates of the Caribbean or Lord of the Rings or Hellboy. I mean, WTF? Why is every ultimate bad guy automatically an octopus? And how many robot octopuses do you need in three movies, anyway? (First Alice, then Soundwave, now this.)

Ok, moving on to the positive side of things. In spite of everything wrong with it, I have to say I think it's the best movie of the three. My view may be tinted by the fact that I know Michael Bay says he's done for good (I hope he sticks to that), and the fact that Revenge of the Fallen was one of the worst movies ever made, so anything remotely decent would seem good after that.

But the pluses are there are a hell of a lot of robots, there is more robot dialogue, a more coherent plot, a subplot that actually does tie in to the main one relatively seamlessly and serve some purpose in furthering the story, and there's a hell of a lot of robots. I think this movie is what Revenge of the Fallen was promised to be, but failed so miserably to be. I don't feel like I wasted my money, and I would pay to see it again if a friend wanted to go.

To my surprise, about a third of the audience (judging by sound) at the 11:30 a.m. showing in the Columbia Maryland AMC 14 actually applauded at the end of the movie. I didn't hear anyone applauding at the previous two movies. Anyway, I guess a lot of people were either pleasantly surprised or psyched enough that they just felt like clapping.

All in all, I'm glad Team Bayformers went out on a good note. I hope they find further success in other ventures. And I'm glad we can finally say goodbye.

For my home movie collection, I will eventually buy this DVD and for all viewing purposes pretend ROTF doesn't exist. Just like with Underworld 2.

I haven't posted in a while, but I've been lurking all the time. Saw DOTM yesterday and wanted to wait until the post-movie glow faded before I commented.

Regarding the final scene, I must have totally misinterpreted and misheard what was going on. After disabling Sentinel, I thought Megs said to both Primes "All I ever wanted was to be back in command." I took this to be an explanation to Sentinel as to why he just got shot in the back. Based on that comment, it seemed clear that he was still the same old power-hungry Megs who would never accept anyone else ahead of him in the food chain. It appeared to me that Megs was approaching Prime to fight, not to surrender. I never heard the "truce" comment, but obviously I missed it because so many others did hear it. Without the "truce" comment, I felt that Optimus was justified in his attack and that Megs was taken offguard because he never expected Optimus to attack without being physically provoked.

I'm obviously projecting my view of what was going on in Optimus' head as well as 27 years of knowing these characters and expecting their next move. In various series/stories/fan discussions he has been accused of not being able to make the death blow against the Cons. He's even been accused of being part of the reason for why the war has lasted so long and why the Bots were never to overcome the Cons. Sentinel makes comments to this effect earlier in the film, saying that Optimus was the bravest of the Bots but could never make the tough decisions. I think that this comment, combined with the lost of a close friend and the threat of losing yet another place called "home" finally pushed Optimus to make decisions differently. Like others have said, I think that this could have been explained by having Optimus and Sentinel talk after Optimus kills Megs but before he slags Sentinel. Something like this would have worked:

<Prime kills Megs>

Sentinel (offscreen): "Well done Optimus! You have finally learned to make the tough decisions."

Optimus: "There is a difference between making a tough decision and making the wrong decision. I came to accept long ago that Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost. Too much would have been left at risk had Megatron and the Decepticons been given a chance to rise again. For the sake of the remaining Cybertronians and for those on this planet, I had to extinguish his spark."

Sentinel: Again, your actions come from your need to protect these humans. <voice rising in anger> You would kill your own to protect these insects??? <shouting> You would doom your own race to extinction to save a race of savages???

Optimus: Members of this race have saved me from death. When I was killed in battle by Megatron, the risked their lives to restore my spark. I owe them more than you can possibly imagine. You taught me that freedom was the right of all sentient beings. You have betrayed the very virtues that you instilled in me. You destroyed one of your oldest and most loyal soldiers in cold blood and were willing to kill us all for your twisted desires. This planet does not have the technology to incarcerate you. You leave me with no choice. You must be taken offline.

I think something like this would've made a true-to-character ending of the film for Optimus. What do you think?

Imissed that :BANG_HEAD: I just kept thinking how Nemoy was the voice of Galvatronin the G1 movie.

As for my take on the movie. I liked it for what it was worth.... a Transformers movie. People can sit here and "criticize" it for story, scenes, language, or what ever they want, but me, I'm a simple guy. I don't go into every movie I watch thinking it should be an Academy Award winner, knowing it's not, and ready to pick it apart before it's 1/2 way over. I enjoyed the action, the story was good enough to keep me going, and sorry to offend the "that should have been in the movie" people, but Miss Whitely's scenes were great!!! Hey, I'm a guy and she's a Victoria's Secrets model for Cybertron's sake...........

I saw it today and I enjoyed it, but I wasn't wowed like I was with the other two. I think it's my fault though, I was watching it for the action scenes which weren't what I was expecting. There weren't any big brawls like the forest battle in RotF, it was a lot of smaller action scenes that went by really fast. In fact that's really my only complaint, so much happened so fast that I didn't get a chance to retain all of it. On the plus side though that will make repeat viewing more enjoyable.

Now on to the nitpicky things. I thought Carly was dull, she didn't do anything except stand around and need rescuing. I liked Mikaela more, she could take care of herself. I didn't like the way Starscream died, he went down like a bitch. I didn't like the way Que/Wheeljack looked, it was too human looking. I probably could have gotten used to it if he had more screen time. Speaking of Que, there were some things that were an obvious response to the bashing RotF got. After all the people complained that the characters were "wrong" they quit trying to represent past characters and just gave them random names to pass them off as original characters. The part where Megatron explained his deal with Sentinel to Starscream came off like they had to talk down to the audience to make sure we caught it. Which must be due to the complaints that RotF didn't make sense even though it did.

I saw it in IMAX 3D and I think one of the lenses on my glasses was scratched. There was a glare over my left eye and it was distracting. I'll have to watch it again in 2D so I won't have to worry about that.

I thought the same thing when I first watched DOTM. I thought to myself "I thought this going to mes going to be more exciting than this. Then I let the movie sit. And the more I thought about it the more I loved it. Then I saw it a second time and got the same feeling I expected to get the first time I saw it.

I thought the same thing when I first watched DOTM. I thought to myself "I thought this going to mes going to be more exciting than this. Then I let the movie sit. And the more I thought about it the more I loved it. Then I saw it a second time and got the same feeling I expected to get the first time I saw it.

That's happening to me too, the more I think it over the more I like it. I definitely need to see it again.

Just got finished watching it. Now, this is coming from somebody who became a fan of Transformers because of the first movie. I love the first movie, and while the second movie had it's flaws, it made up with some pretty damn good action scenes, and I liked the humans in the second and first one too.

This 3rd flick, boy was I royally disappointed, in so many ways. I find nothing redeeming about it. I won't lie, Ironhide is my favorite in this movie, but he was in this so little except for the Mexican standoff, and then after he was prematurely expunged, nothing. We get no mourning, just Sam running to his parents to cry and whine about his stupid girlfriend. WTF?????

OK, I might've been able to deal with Ironhide not there anymore, it's not like he was a contributing factor in the second film, but you would think there would be something to come from Sideswipe to take up his mantle, and well, he was barely in this thing either. Now, there seemed to be way too many humans and not nearly enough of the Autobots. Megatron and Starscream were totally wasted, only cool thing about this would be the opening scene. I thought the film makers were supposed to learn from the second one. In stead of wasting money on destroying that building with the driller, should have used it for some more slow-motion one on one with the Autobots. And Optimus Prime dangling from wires like a puppet. No freaking way..............

I've skipped the last eight pages, but have skimmed/read all other posts in this topic.

A few more gripes, odds & ends:

-Laserbeak talking -- wth?? LB has never talked in anything i've ever seen, so why would he now?? Ravage never spoke in ROTF -wtf?

- Still 3 movies in with tons of US and world military vehicles and troops, but no Hound? It's too hard to have 1 Jeep? A no-brainer autobot to have. What the hell were they thinking? Jeep didn't want free advertising?? They must've been high.

- 3 movies in and no seekers for Starscream? 1 other jet, let alone 2 would've been really cool to see. They could've had an aerial assault in the highway chase, not necessarily the Dreads. (which was still cool, don't get me wrong). No one likes Skywarp or Thundercracker?

- Shockwave could've been used more. Could've battled Ironhide in an epic fight & knocked each other out (instead of IH being offed by Sentinel) I wanted to see an arm cannon shooting spree. Am I wrong, or did he never even transform to tank mode the whole movie?? For the screentime he got, i wanted at least 1 transformation

The positives: I enjoyed seeing Soundwave on the ground & his voice being used, although he probably only transformed once - maybe not even at all.
Rosie HW - may not be prettier than Fox, but her acting was better, and this is good considering she's a rookie. At the end of the day, Fox may be nicer to look at, but better acting draws you into the story and helps you to feel for the character - whether you like them or not.

One more criticism, the space race/opening of the film should've been much shorter - 15 min. tops. There was at least 20 min of the film that could've been sliced off & it wouldn't have mattered - bulk of it being in the beginning. Very strange that the initial reports of the films runtime were 2h 15min or thereabouts with the real runtime being 2h 34min. On the converse, if anything were added, I would like to see the twins in the sentinel prime scene that people were talking about. Good bluray extra or deleted scene. Ah well, Bay, Hasbro, and Paramount suckered us out of another $20. #-o

While waiting for the film to start, the woman ahead of me asked me what she needed to know before watching Transformers: DOTM. She never seen the previous movies before nor had any knowledge of the franchise. Of all the people she asked in the theater, she chose correctly but wasn't ready for my autistic answer.

I'm a huge fan of the first two movies and this one did not disappoint. Dark of the Moon was everything I wanted in a summer blockbuster (ie, stuff exploding for two hours and a half).

It was also the best 3D experience ever. The first time I did not want to gouge out my eyes while watching a movie in 3D. I find it so strange now to think of the movie in 2D, which was Michael Bay's previous vision. As much as it sounds terrible that studio wanted it in 3D, they made the most of it and then some.
I'm glad that I avoided all spoilers and plot details leading up to the movie's release as I never anticipated Sentinel Prime to be one of the bad guys. That was a great reveal for me, which is now reinforced by the "Spock goes evil" line

The marketing campaign made it seem like Shockwave was the main villain in this film. I wished he was used more in the film.

I'm not sure I agree with Optimus' plan to hide after their space shuttle explodes because it does result in innocent people's death just to prove a point.

Of the summer sequels starring sentient talking cars, I love Transformers: DOTM over Cars 2.

Star Trek/Spock references were great but I personally geeked out more over the Tommy Boy reference.

Oh well, at least there'll be more toys.

Actually, I always thought, if I won a massive lotto jackpot and offered to use it to pay to make my own Transformers movie, I would just have the last 3 movies be a dream Optimus had. U can still use the designs, but drastically change the story.

I don't think Prime was trying to prove a point by hiding in the shuttle launcher. They hid in the shuttle to give that element of surprise and to plan an attack covertly.

I wish people would quit complaining that they killed so many main characters. the main robots in this movie were optimus(who died in the second movie)megatron(1st movie)and sentinel who was dead at the begining of the 3rd movie.
What oh megatron lost his head since when do robots need those.optimus lost his arm but he didn't bleed to death though it's a nasty injury i bet he could get it back why can't starscream and megatron get their heads back. heck they could make the new ones look like g1. hey even better put megatrons head on shockwaves body and "Behold galvatron"!!!
I didn't see any sparks extinguished except mabe Sentinel Prime.guess that means he's done right?Oh wait that happened to optimus in ROTF.
I say unicron sends some decepticons to get the matrix and he uses it to revive everybody heck bring back the Fallen,Soundwave, BrAwl, Jazz, ironhide, laserbeak, grindor and osama bin laden( just kiddin about that last one).Really whats the worst that could happen? The franchise becomes ridiculous? It already has.
Who needs a reboot? This isn't star trek or batman. Why not take all the insanity and find a way to make some consistency for this and all the previous transformers generations this could be it they just need to come up with some crazy event like in comicbooks. Then it could all be at least somewhat constistent were all continuities were relevant. This is my dream for Transformers.
But whatever they'll probably reboot it and make a bunch of new toys and nobody will care. and the next will be as silly as the last and still be amazing too right? It's not like the vast majority of the fans won't outgrow transformers anyways and a new generation of kids will fall in love with the rebooted franchise. i mean the formula is proven and tested. only the adult fans will care about the inconsistencies. But are vastly outnumbered by the kids.
