You're missing out. Subtitled is the only watch to watch these in all their original magnificence. No dub could possibly capture the spirit of the originals as good as the authentic version itself. Such laziness, as you describe it, can be easily overcome, as the action and the exposition don't always coincide with each other. When there's talking, there's not much action. When there's action, there's not much talking. Speaking of which, that's pretty much how it is for entertainment in any language. ;)

I myself already own two different subtitled versions of all three series. One's a fansub of all three, the other is the UK DVD boxed set by Metrodome. I plan to get the Shout! Factory version, which will make three different variations of subtitles. :-B

It's not just the voices of the Omni dubs that are pitiful, but the dialogue and scripting as well. Nearly every piece dialogue spoken out of everyone's mouth is crud. None of it is any good and barely even makes a lick of sense. :BANG_HEAD:

A proper modern dubbing could do just fine.

This isn't high theater, there's not a lot of subtlety to capture in Transformers Super God Masterforce.

Subtitles were the best we could do in the 90's and even in the 2000's, but now it's possible to have great dubbing and still retain the original intent of the speaker despite the Japanese language having idiosyncrasies that are difficult to capture. Of course, that requires enough care to go into it, but that's true of all things.

Agreed. Plus, those UK dubs get really annoying! "Oh it's the Seacons warriors OH" "oh" "i know Oh" "ahhhhh"

I'm not asking for Peter Cullen or Frank Welker (although it would be awesome I'm not dumb, it would cost a fortune!) But even Dr. Smoov and some other fan voice all stars could really breathe some life and accuracy into all 3 of these series.

I heard Hasbro wouldn't let the Omni dub be released here because it represented the brand poorly. Knowing that, trying to talk a major corporation into letting a bunch of fans represent their characters... never gonna happen, sadly.

And again, paying ANY full cast of voice actors to play these parts would make the price skyrocket.

We all need to count our blessings and run out to buy the first USA release of these Japanese series. Take what we can get and be thankful.

Hasbro's already meddled with the subtitles of these releases by changing a few names and terms to suit their vision of these shows, rather than the original vision of the Japanese creators. Do you really think that any professional dub under their authority would leave everything untouched as it was Japanese version? Hasbro would most definitely issue more changes be made to the dialogue script or even want the content edited for violence or objection or whatever. With the new subtitles alone, they've already gone and had...
  • Fortress renamed "Cerebros",
  • Sixshot's rank changed from the Decepticon City Ninja Staff Officer to "Phase Six Decepticon officer",
  • "Scrap" being used as an expletive (over any typical choice like "darn", "blast " or "curse")
  • All Mini-Cassettes referred to as "Deployers" (which is not even a G1 term)
  • The unspecified energy that was recharging the Matrix directly referred to as Plasma Energy, thus removing any mystique and wonder behind the unknown energy that would help to empower the Matrix
  • "Behold the Birth of Double Convoy" subbed as "The Rebirth of Rodimus Prime" :BANG_HEAD:
  • Slang terms such as "Autojerk" and Decepticreep" used where nonexistent
  • The meteorite named Metemorphose subbed as "Metamorphosis"
  • Metamorphose's magnetic properties redefined as gravitational properties, which is utter nonsense given the context of that episode,
  • Godmasters most likely be renamed "Powermasters",
  • Super Ginrai and God Ginrai possibly renamed "God Ginrai" and "Super God Ginrai" respectively,
  • The Breastforce most likely renamed as either the "Chestforce" or "Chestmasters", and
  • Deszaras most likely renamed "Deathsaurus"
Hasbro may own these series, but this is not their creation nor their continuity. It's Japan's. It is not canon to the American Generation 1 cartoon, but is instead canon to the Japanese dubs of it (Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers and Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers 2010). They need to stop making these changes that make it work for them when it's not not suppose to.

If some of these changes have to do with the appropriateness of content, simply have these DVDs marketed to "Ages 13 & up" like most anime DVDs are, as it is most unlikely that anyone below that age will want to personally buy these sets, sit down, and watch them in a foreign language with only text at the bottom of the screen to make them understand it. Besides, one of the main reasons they said that they were releasing these was because of the popularity of anime, yet all such subbed anime nowadays are marketed to no less than the PG-13 age range anyway.

They also said "No" to fandubs too.

The Metrodome and Madman DVDs used such insults as "foolish Autobots/Decepticons" "blasted Autobots/Decepticons", "cursed Autobots/Decepticons", "Autobot/Decepticon scum", "Autobot/Decepticon fools", "miserable Autobots/Decpeticons" and likely "Dee Ay Em En (I don't cuss  ) Autobots/Decepticons".

All of which are probably more accurate to the Japanese versions, which used such terms as "Cybertron/Destron-yatsura", "Cybertron/Destron-yatsu", "Cybertron/Destron kisama", "onore Cybertron/Destron", Cybertron/Destron-yaro", etc.

Oh... yeah, those sound way better actually. That fits better with the tone of the Japanese, IMHO.
