Logan79, thanks for keeping this thread going. I've got just a small constructive criticism for your Thrust comparisons, though. That one picture of Thrust's character model on the white background is actually a fan colored sample, not a real Sunbow colored character model. There are some shots from the original cartoon that better show off the different shades of gray on Thrust that the Masterpiece figure is going for.

Takara is definitely interested in the Sunbow cartoon images and is basing their MP and many other characters on those as closely as possible.
However, the image of Thrust is not a "fan colored sample." It is actually from the 1986 Marvel Comics Transformers Universe comics, by Bob Budiansky, Ian Akin, and Brian Garvey. They were pictures and bios for each character. First released as 4 individual comics and then released in 1987 as a trade paper back.
Dreamwave did the same thing in 2002 and 2003, calling it More Than Meets The Eye.
At the time, very fun and interesting, nice analysis of each character.
