For anyone in the U.K-I found this petition. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/26475
I've signed it, not sure how effective it is or if it's the best one out there, but it was worth a try.
If anyone knows any more/better ones I'll gladly sign them!

That also doesn't mean we shouldn't keep the pressure up either, as the senate can still possibly pass it if they get enough support for the bill. I believe Obama will veto this, but we need to keep the pressure up, period.

I'll believe it when I see it.
As much I support President Obama the sad truth is: that the Obama Administration has a long and sad history of saying their against or for something but always caves to GOP/Wall Street/Special Interests/Corprations at the end.
And given how well that they handled Internet Neutrality and the Wikileaks ordeal I find very hard to trust them in anything that deals with the internet. I will say for the record that I do trust them a whole lot more than any of the Republican Presidential Candidates on this subject though.

There is so much wrong with this post, I don't think I could deal with it all in one sitting. I'd need a full team of analysts working around the clock, and we'd have a decent report in by next week. Here's my preliminary anyway.
Ultra Markus wrote:looks like this obamanation of government
Obama hasn't gotten involved yet, and from what I'm hearing, when he does, it's going to involving vetoing the bill.
Ultra Markus wrote:will end the world in 2012
The world isn't going to end in 2012. And how is a bill threatening to drastically change the internet going to cause the End of Days, anyway?
Ultra Markus wrote:or these reps or senators are trying to

No, they're trying to protect businesses by meddling in something they don't fully understand, to the point that they don't understand this is going to hurt people.

I copied and pasted large portions of this article for an email to all my friends and family. Hope this doesn't get me blacklisted here for copyright infringement.
All joking aside, you'd think these people would be old enough to remember that Prohibition and McCarthyism didn't work. If the purpose of the acts are to stop piracy, how do they think they're going to monitor the entire world 24/7? Like a bootlegger moving his shine, another site will just pop up for every one taken down. Oh, that's right; these are the people who think the War on Drugs is working.

Even if Obama doesn't veto, the Supreme Court can still banish it back to the darkest pits of Hades where it came from for violating the First Amendment.

Is this the same supreme court that passed the Citizens United" case? Its not likely the court will do anything as the same special intrests that got to congress will get to them too

When will those IDIOTS in Congress ever learn.........you can't LEGISLATE COMMON SENSE!
If Hollywood and the music industry are the ones Behind this monstrosity then they should:
1.Ditch downloadable format
2.Stronger encryption their BDs/DVDs etc
3.Crackdown on their weenie employees at the cutting room who emulate that Pvt Bradley Maning fella who made an illegal copy of a top secret material(btw, his "pirating" those documents did a lot of good by exposing the dirty linen of the US government)the way movies are all over the street when they've just premiered in the Cinemaplex.
4.Tell MS and other brain nerds to stop creating newer products that allows improved data compression which in the long run pushes forward the evolution of technology.
Oh wait, those corporate slugs/dinosaurs would probably want us to go back to Edison's phonograph tecch which they can monopolize.

If I'm not mistaken, there are about 300 million Americans. But only less that a 100 million actually get involved in voting. And if a majority of those who do vote are like those seen in like heck, just by watching Jay Leno's Jaywalking, Geraldo Rivera and John Stossel programs, the ones where they interview the common man in the street, just about 90% of them are like Patrick Starfish in intellect!
If they are the actual representatives of the common folk (or worst, like those Kardasians/ Snooky of the Jersey Shore), I fear for the future!

I won't deny that is possibly the case, but do you really want to leave something like this to chance and just hope the Supreme Court sees sense at the last minute?
Is that a risk with taking?
Personally, it isn't. The pro-bill sponsorship listing on Wikipedia contains a vast number of entertainment organisations from Comcast and Time Warner to Marvel. These are big companies with deep pockets and are specialists at lobbying. Our only chance is contacting everyone we can, as much as we can, however we can.
This is not something where we can afford to just sit back and hope a hero will swoop in and save the day.
Also note on that list that Nintendo, EA and Sony have had their names removed. What most fail to notice is that all three of the above are members of ESA (Entertainment Software Alliance) which is very much still a supporter, which means that until they explicitly state they are against the bill it still has their support. Why did they remove their names? To prevent the adverse publicity? That seems like a safe assumption, and one which means that the campaigning is clearly having an effect.
Let's not let up, America needs to hear how bad this could be.

Also, if anyone here is a Wikipedia editor, please head over there and make your voice heard on the SOPA/Blackout discussion. Wikipedia joining the blackout on the 18th would be massive for spreading the word of this to those in the limited-internet community.

Some good news, at the very least. Glad to see they're actually going to hold off and, I dunno, GET SOME EXPERTS in on this. Still doesn't mean the pressure should be let up, however.

That's why we should rise up and lynch those lawyers! They are Satan's avatar on earth...........spouting the majesty of the law when in fact they are the ones screwing the law! Who do you think worded the proposed legislation? THem @ssholes were probably licking their chops thinking over the windfall profits they would have earned by ambulance chasing once this POS comes to pass.

Ha! I totally read that as: "We can't be messing with the internet so much that people use other DNS servers that aren't based in the US so we can't see what they're looking at..."
I wouldn't trust the bureaucracy as far as I could throw the whole damn lot of 'em. The White House said they'd veto the NDAA but they didn't.

For people wanting to do a bit more for the blackout, look at this link:
http://www.blackoutsopa.org/
Provides a profile picture for your Twitter/ FaceBook account after signing in, and features a link to show how to help in any way you can. Every little bit a person can do WILL help. It may seem like nothing for just one person to send an email, but if we ALL send an email, it does add up, and fast.
Another bit of good news is this link I found earlier today:
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/o ... GOtKZOkBvK
I find it good that this topic is getting all of this attention. As was stated, while these are signs pointing toward keeping the internet free, we still have a long way to go. Keep calling your representatives, keep your friends in the loop, but most importantly, don't give up hope!

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration raised concerns today about efforts in Congress that it said would undermine "the dynamic, innovative global Internet," urging lawmakers to approve measures this year that balance the need to fight piracy and counterfeiting against an open Internet.
White House officials said in a blog post that it would not support pending legislation that "reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk" or undermines the global Internet, cautioning the measure could discourage innovation and startup businesses.
"Any effort to combat online piracy must guard against the risk of online censorship of lawful activity and must not inhibit innovation by our dynamic businesses large and small," the White House said.

I don't quite get why this was even allowed to be presented to the government. It breaks the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, doesn't it?
Then again the same people pushing for it are likely the same people who break the "separation of church and state" clause...
The internet has allowed for a global market and thus a global issue with a counterfeiting and all the other mumbo jumbo that comes with it. Baring one nation isn't going to stop the problem and all it does is segregate that country.
Like how the UN is the watch dog of the world (more or less) for warfare there needs to be a group that goes after global thieves and pirates. The issue isn't one countries to deal with alone. Throwing a "shield" over the US would be like a child hiding under their blanket hoping the monsters will go away.
For a country that has become pushy and arrogant with their military this bill makes us look like a bunch of babies. ((by pushy and arrogant I mean that prior to the Korean War we didn't get involved anywhere unless we had to. We waited for years to enter WWI and WWII while Europe was being demolished. After WWII however we have became rather militaristic))

So apparently Obama came out yesterday in favor of the opposition of SOPA/PIPA.
