Hey fellow fans, I am just now getting into transformers again. I have been watching Season 3 for the G1 Transformers cartoon. I have a question...
what happened to Soundwave? He was one of my favs..yeah he's in a few scenes here and there...but his voice doesn't sound the same. Any light to shed on this? Speculations?

A lot of TFs were unhappy with the events in The Movie, and the drop in budget for Season 3. Soundwave opted to remain with the show, but his heart wasn't in it, and this shows in his performances.
Little known fact: Optimus Prime actually never wanted to return to the show. The producers eventually hired his brother, Optimus Phil, to play Prime's part in Season 3 and 4, hence "Prime's" slightly different appearence.

He had a pre 1986 toy, thus did not need to feature predominantly, as the post 1986 characters needed the screentime to help sell their toys.

He did manage to put it behind him after a while. Shame he broke up with Beth though.

Real answer, though - For some episodes, they seem to have forgotten to put the voice through the vocoder.

Season 3 is what we might call "rushed"...occasionally he sounded like Dr. Phil from Inspector Gadget. I think that's awesome.
edit: Dr. Claw, not Dr. Phil. Though that'd be pretty f'ing funny too

I think the guy who voiced Dr. Claw also did Soundwave, and they probably forgot to do whatever they did to his voice. Happened in Season 1 or 2 as well.
Also, Soundwave sort of gets a feature episode in season 3, "Carnage in C-Minor". And he exchanges long strands of protien strings with Galvatron when they're flying in the trees. If your not a Simpsons nut, that basicly means they're holding hands

"The guy" is Frank Welker. In "Roll For It" someone forgot to do the effects on his voice, so Soundwave said "Excellent, Ravage" whilst sounding like the Claw.
