I thought the claw hands were a nice way to bring back elements of Animate shockwave into the fold.

Yeah but still it didn't work in my opinion. [-( I like this Masterpiece Shockwave MUCH better.
Who else could the Whirl mold have been straightly redecoed into for the Cloud line?

You know, that other cycloptic guy, what's his name... (I'm drawin' a blank, guess shockwave was the right choice after all)... Oh, yeah, Steve, Steve the :CON:

He was making a joke. He was simulating a conversation where he would come respond by saying that he knows a good redeco before actually coming up with one and then stopping the sentence midway and throwing an arbitrary name so that it can all be forgotten and ignored.

And I will bet anything that he wasnt hoping that joke to get taken this seriously.

I was going for the angle that there were no other cycloptic tf's to my knowledge (outside of minicons - like armada nightbeat  ) so shockwave is the obvious and only redeco - shoulda named him 'Jim the :CON:' ;)

To make a fun round up, while Shockwave and Whirl are the main G1 bots to be cyclops(es), the first movie line went all out with that idea, giving us both Payload and Dreadwing. Personally, I dont think the single eye design works on those.

Those guys, along with Swindle, Longarm, and Dropkick, all had designs as being drones for the first movie's console video game.

It all has to do with proportion. Whirl and shock had a good 'eye' to 'face' ratio, whereas the movie guys were big cylinders attached to a neck, so it looked pretty off-putting; but the real question is: do the G1 guys look good because of design or because they are G1?

Until MTMTE #1, no one really knew a thing about Whirl, or really cared. Roberts has made him a fan favorite, enough so that he got a new figure. His design is highly praised in the comic, and many refuse to see it as "G1", and it is essentially a reboot of G1, so it could go either way. To me, he just looks cool and it is awesome to have a one-eyed autobot :BOT:

Yeah, I dont think its the G1 factor either. The movie design for Shockwave was excellent.

Good enough for me, just wondering - nostalgia has been known to do funny things, but I'm not sure anyone will ever be nostalgic for the movie cyclops' though |:|

Good enough for me, just wondering - nostalgia has been known to do funny things, but I'm not sure anyone will ever be nostalgic for the movie cyclops' though |:|

The movie shockwave was absolutely terrifying to look at! That thing was scary and something peopek would remember in nightmares where they were being chased and couldn't escape certain death! The head was badass and the chest design was so unique yet it fit so well despite being so different. Movie shockwave is #2 all time to me behind Prime Shockwave and a just a tad above FoC/IDW G1 Shockwave. :BOT:

The monkey arms ruined it for me :(
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Agreat alternative to the MP, for anyone on a budget is Prime's Beast Hunters Shockwave. Ignore the silly rubber "armor" and you have a pretty solid candidate.

He's also perfect at voyager scale.

Also, even the CONSTRUCTBOT version is excellent! I was lucky enough to have found it at just 8$ at Winners.

I saw that Constructbots version at Marshalls for $9 or so and didn't pick him up, I now have the regrets.

Beast Hunters Shockwave is pretty awesome. I'm gonna hang on to him for the foreseeable future.

It'll be nice to have Alternators, Beast Hunters, and Masterpiece all together!
