Well I am Australian. It's kinda what we're known for.

So, where do the headlights go in that Photoshopped pipedream? Those are part of the animation model. Neglecting them is deprecating the screen accuracy of his look as well. Face it, the cartoon cheated. If you want a squared off chest with little vehicle kibble around his waistline, you're going to have to settle for a lot of ugly transformation lines and fragile, fiddly pieces, or cheatsy faux parts to get that look. So what if Ironhide is a little tubby when it comes to engineering a "Masterpiece" version of him with real-world limitations and physics? He's completely recognizable the same character he always was in G1, even if he looks a little "fat." Stop shaming the poor bot for his dadbod!
Cobotron wrote:Hey! You seemed to have attracted a wild Megatronus. They're hard to find, but boy are they fun when you catch one!
I never realized before now just how tiny and squinty his eyes are, making his face look too long. -_-
Shadowman wrote:This is Sabrblade we're talking about. His ability to store trivial information about TV shows is downright superhuman.

The same "iconic licenced [sic] van."
The only things changed were a slight shortening of the pelvis and upper thighs. If you look at the second pic I posted under that one, I show how the midsection could have been designed to have the lights and bumper fold inwards with an alternate section molded onto to bottom of the piece that would swing into place to complete the lower part of that boxy chest look he had in most of the G1 toon and a legit ab section. The hip flaps, of course, would swing backward to cover his tire assets. To make up for the height needed to complete vehicle mode, the slightly collapsed thighs would extend from the lower leg section.
If I had to guess, I'd say the designer struggled to achieve the desired height based on the animation model sheet they are using for reference on all the post MP-10 figs. This led to some oddly stretched proportions. I have no idea why the face sculpt looks so terrible, though. That's just a poor design choice.
The real head scratcher is why TakTom pulled Shoji Kawamori from the MP design duties to work on other projects. Why pull the guy knocking them out of the park in the middle of the game?

Sometimes he was drawn with the bumper and headlights, and sometimes he wasn't. Regardless, it would be simple to mold those into the piece that becomes his midsection in my example. This isn't rocket surgery. This is simple engineering. There were many ways that the fig could have been streamlined, but wasn't.
Hey. Enjoy your derp-faced mis-proportioned Ironhide with the useless rocket sled thingy bursting with accessories. I'll save a buck and continue to hope they don't screw up the next design.
Wolfman Jake wrote:Also, yes, you can mold them on to a faux piece, but Masterpieces are engineered to get away from "cheats" like that.

warzon3 wrote:I agree with they could have collapsed the front bumper, and how hard would it have been to put an extra swivel or hinge on the hip kibble to swing it away in another direction?
If they were able to pull off an all in one transformation anything is possible.
It seems he looks great on an angle, but straight on he will always have that tubiness.

Some of you are impossible to please. This thing isn't even out, hasn't even been in anyone's hands and you already have your minds made up. If you're not gonna get it, stop crapping on this thread and move on.
