Ironhide reminds me of a figma. He almost looks like a non-transformable figure. He's nice and sleek with just enough auto bits to look like a transformer. The other MP cars look like they obivously turn into something else with vestigial car parts here and there.
BOOM!!!!!
I finally know what my problem with Ironhide is. Something about him has nagged at me since the first pics were revealed, and once I had him in hand, I didn't feel as if he really fit in on my MP shelf (or won't once it's set back up). I couldn't put the feeling into words, but now I can.
He is too damn clean.![]()
As you said, Cary, he doesn't have the vehicle kibble all the others do. Aside from his chest, almost nothing remains of his alt mode. That's what nagged at me. Now that I've identified the nag, I think I can let it go now.
Avery sexy origamic figma! Engineering at it's best! I wonder how you can categorize him? Shell former? Rubik's rectangular polygonal former?
Just a regular Transformer. Done right.
Awwwwwwww admit it. You suki him ne?
Btw, given how almost near "smoothness" his transformation, doesn't remind you of Vehicon General version 2? If what my impression is on him from the rest of the fandom, also one heck of a desgin (I have the TAV version but haven't freed him yet from his plastic prison)
I am much happier with Ironhide now that I've identified my issue with him. I still think he feels a tad out of place on the MP shelf, but once Ratchet joins him, it should be fine.
The First Edition or the PRID version? Cuz the FE one was really good while the only thing the PRID one had going for it was more show-accurate legs (but which still have fake wheels sculpted into them).Ironhidensh wrote:dunno. ScottyP wrote:I finally got this toy. It is better than I expected it would be based on pre-release press and photos, but worse than I thought it would be after reading everyone's opinions of him for the past month. This toy has some serious problems in proportions, tolerance, and design. It also does a lot of things very, very right.
Here's what I hate, to get it out of the way:
- I can't ignore the hips, butt tires, or odd looking lower torso. The "abdominal" area of this figure looks good straight on, and that's it.
- Face sculpt is just ok. Maybe a happy face would help on this one.
- There are some places where the tolerances are too tight involving painted surfaces. That doesn't bode well for long term usage, but I could be wrong.
- The legs have even less detail than MP Magnus when viewed from the front. Can I get a panel line? Maybe two, just for variety?
- Why is the sled on the ground? Challenge mode: don't reply to that with a Sunbow still.
The really good stuff, just to show I'm not totally ornery:
- The actual transformation is very fun. It manages to have a great balance of complexity and intuitiveness.
- The sled is amazing and if every figure had one I might not need massive parts bags for MP toys.
- Other than the areas mentioned on my above list, the proportions are very well done.
- Van mode is just perfect. I can see a v2.0 of this guy (when that happens in ten years) having a flawed van mode, but perfect robot mode. MP-3 vs. MP-11 all over again! What is it with hips...
- The variety of accessories is sublime.
I'm sure many of you have said these things, but the toy's been out so long now I really didn't feel like reading the entirety of the thread. That said, I'll probably go back and read the first several pages from post-release and realize I just beat a dead horse with this post, but that's ok.

Agree with pretty much everything ScottyP said. As I waited for the fig to arrive, I kind of regretted pre-ordering him after seeing the pics. But now that I have the toy in hand, he's definitely one of my favorite MP figs.
One thing I have to point out is that the tabs on his chest piece don't tab into the shoulder slots at all.

Must be a bad sample. Mine tabs fine.
As for the anxiety/regret feelings prior, it's because of all the negativity on a product that was NOT yet released. Now in hand, well as you said 'nuff said.

Not sure if I should go get a replacement. The chest piece holds up fine even without them. BTW, it's not so much that the tabs don't fit, ti's that there's a very slight "springiness" between the chest piece and the inner chest whereby they just don't want to stay together.
Or, I may need to rework the inner chest piece (the rear of the van mode) to make it sit more flush and see if it helps.

Thanks, Fen! I tried it again and luckily for me, it turns out that I just didn't secure the inner chest piece enough the first time around. This time, I made sure it slotted in perfectly, the outer chest piece tabbed in just fine.
Wow, I didn't realize the "diaper" had 2 extra panels that allows for more leg articulation! Definitely helps with the more dramatic poses. I wonder if they took inspiration from the more recent Hot Toys Iron Man figures? They used a similar design to get rid of the rubber "briefs" of the earlier IM suits, which often resulted in "pink brief syndrome."

MP-1 is about a foot tall, roughly the height of a full CW combiner.Bumblebee21 wrote:Thank you.mp-01 is bigger than I thought he would be

Well I am Australian. It's kinda what we're known for.
Oh ya! Now I'm even more excited for the Doc so I can have one in regular robot mode and the other in this silly mode.Cyberpath wrote:Congrats! MP-27 is awesome. I knew you'd be all over that "toy" mode.
Are you also getting Ratchet?
