Also is it just me that loves it when Jelze and Sabr are bouncing TF knowledge off eachother? It's awesome.

Had a couple minutes to go look back at the show's animation model. It's the amount of purple on the chest of this Takara one that's bugging me. Entirely too much. I daresay the Hasbro one is closer to "correct", especially given that neither version did the two-toned "ears" properly.

Yea, the purple areas of the upper chest should have been black. Also, yes, the ears should have some orange, but if I had to choose just one of the colors, I think I prefer the complete grey over complete orange.

At any rate, the Hasbro Armada Megatron is quite nice (if clearance-bound)... but this one is just too tempting for me to pass up.

Yeah, the ears are meant to be two-toned - gray on the interior part closer to his head (ala the Takara release) and orange on the edges (like the Hasbro one). They're both just solid colors instead. Adding to the annoyance is that both the original Armada and Micron Legend toys got this part "right"!

The horns were predominately gray, though, with orange only highlighting a portion of each horn (at least in the show, that is). If they had to be either solid color, sacrificing the secondary color in the process, gray would be the correct one to go with, especially since the horns were indeed solid gray in the show before Megatron scanned his Earth mode:

DAMN, I better stop dragging my feet on pre-ordering these three! Even with Slipstream's vestigial-vindblade-turbines, a glance at these color samples would make you think these were original molds intended for these characters all along!

It's interesting that they kept all of Arcee's weapon tooling for nightbird, yet it seems Windblade's sword's been removed from Slipstream. It also seems TFA blackarachnia's claw thingy's been removed as well.
