WJ88, I understand where you're coming from, but Kup is perhaps the WORST example you could have used here. Takara Legends Kup is hands down superior to Hasbro's release in almost every way. Yes, it lacks Hasbro's combinable guns for a Titan Master to sit in, but it instead has his classic Titanmaster partner, an all new sculpt Takara made that Hasbro might never release. On top of that, Takara's Kup has a much better head sculpt, retooled shoulders and lower arms, and a color scheme and paint job that makes it look like their version just walked out of the G1 cartoon and onto our display shelves. Legends Kup is worth paying almost triple what it would cost for Hasbro's offering. Honestly, the difference is about as apparent as Titans Return Blurr versus Legends Blurr. You know which one everyone really wants.
I kind of both agree and disagree with you on this. Kup is definitely a bad example because of the retooling of the figure itself. It isn't just a slightly different deco, but a retool, different head, etc. But a disagree with you on the target master making it a bad example. That actually makes it a good example for what Will was trying to express with the rest of his comment that you clipped, as it is something that accompanies the figure that replaces what Hasbro's figure comes with.
As for superiority, that is completely objective. For me, personally, I like the Hasbro Kup figure better. My main focus is the toy itself, particularly the transformation, so I am more open to differences in deco than most fans here. I'm not attached to G1 toy or cartoon accuracy, so I somewhat have the freedom to just look at the decos and select what looks better to me and my tastes without accuracy coming into play. In this case, I just like the Hasbro face better than Takara. I also don't really care for the Takara target masters themselves, again not having a need for G1 accuracy, they just aren't that important to me. On top of that, they just don't look that great as guns, like a minibot laying down with a pole or 2 coming out of their heads Don't get me wrong, if they were released by Hasbro at the titan/prime master price point, I'd jump all over them because, well plastic crack. But they aren't important enough to me to pay the extra $$$ for a deco on Kup that I like less than the Hasbro one.
I know I'm totally in the minority here, but just wanted to point out that there are in fact other collectors whom don't care as much for the G1 accuracy, so it is great that we all have options to suit our tastes and/or budgets.
