I just got Legends Tankor (2 of them) and Legends Whirl.
Let me cut to the chase, Tankor is the better (or more accomplished) figure to me. Even though I had the hasbro one before, and I didnt think much of it, this deco is amazing. Almost every inch of him is painted, it's really something to behold. I haven't seen a deluxe painted this much in a long time (but then again, I just recently started buying Takara versions). Whirl has minimal paint apps since the main difference between this and the hasbro version was the color of the plastic used. I can't attest for the Hasbro one, but the plastic for the main helicopter body doesnt feel as smooth and sturdy as the legs and the arms. Speaking of the legs, although the upper knee joint is tight, it feels secure as you use it and I dont fear breaking it at all. Although I dont find much use to it. Using them just makes him look shorter usually and this figure is known for being uncomfortably lanky (like the Transformers version of Slender Man) so the taller the better. The plastic color is great though and since I dont have the G1 toy and it wont be reissued due to legal reasons, I am glad I got this deco.
Now, to review the differences between Hasbro and Takara's Tankor.
The grey plastic is a different tint in the Takara version. It is less bluish and simply grey. The yellow paint apps are more chartreuse (greenish) because the blue plastic they used on the shoulder pads is a different and darker shade than the blue plastic on the Hasbro version. However, the paint used to recreate this tint of dark blue on parts made of another coloured plastic (like the chest and lower legs) gives a much nicer shine than the Hasbro version. So I prefer Hasbro's blue plastic, but Takara's glossy blue paint beats Hasbro's. Also, the groin, forearms, face, hips and lower legs are all covered in a nice silver paint which was only found sparingly in the Hasbro version (like the face plate) and it is of a slightly darker shade, which brings it out more due to the greater contrast against the light grey plastic. Like I said, this figure is covered in paint.
