Here's my thing....

Why would a cement mixer be needed in a "mining" operation ?

Believe it or not, we actually have a rock quarry near the Everglades portion of South Miami. I once visited it to see an explosives demonstration presented by former military bomb squad members. I got to see several huge mining vehicles including a dump truck as big as Long Haul from ROTF. (They are freaking huge) However there were no cement mixers present because nothing was being built. They were mining. ;)

As the pictures Hellscream9999 shows, there no debate that these "neo" cement mixers are big and do fit better with the scale they are shooting for. (which is controversial to begin with) However, I know Im not the only TF fan that didnt know these type of cement mixers existed before this figure was revealed. And in my opinion, they are ugly.

It's okay to be ignorant of things like this, so long as it's not held against others; I grew up around them, and have seen many on the road in my life, I find it inconceivable (I literally cannot imagine never seeing one - ever) that people can have never seen one like this - it's quite interesting, really. I think TT does a fair job of evoking the cab portion as a foot, while modernizing the mixer.

The one shown in my post is a smaller variant, they can get quite massive; the articulated pump truck (still awesome :michaelbay: ) receives cement from this specific style of mixer into a hopper on the back of it and pumps it along the arm via a hose to reach the tops of tall buildings and such.

As for needing cement in a 'mining' situation (and any others that may fall under this umbrella term), I can think of a few reasons off the top of my head as to why, but it's irrelevant. Plus utility vehicles are rarely designed to 'look' nice - they are all function and efficiency.

Irrelevant? Why ? Do I need an executive order from the president to find out what the hell a cement mixer would be doing at a mining operation ? Enlighten me...

And I havent ever seen one of those. It is what it is. I could ask you if youve ever seen the Oscar Mayer Weiner mobile and start calling you "ignorant" when you say no. But the bottom line is it exists just like that cement mixer.

I have actually seen the Oscar Mayer Weiner mobile, I also have the hot wheels toy, and a piggy bank of it >:oP And I quite clearly wasn't being insulting towards you when I said you were ignorant of the new style cement mixer, as that is the definition of the word

As for the mine, I'm no engineer, but I suppose they would use cement for support columns, or ramps, or to fill in damage/wear and tear, or to make a solid base for the on site manager building; I dunno, it literally doesn't matter, I've seen them at operations like that in person, I don't care either way, it looks great as a leg.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

I dont think the cement mixer being one way or another makes a difference, this toy is not the G1 toy. Only the G1 toy is the G1 toy. It just so happens that mixmaster is the most apparent change to this initiative to modernize Devastator and takara is softening the blow as much as possible by keeping the combined mode as faithful as G1 as possible, with what they are given (I think it's pretty smart actually, the best of both worlds).

The hasbro version's hands arent even purple for crying out loud, it's clear their goal isn't to give pure untouched G1.

All six of them are modern. It's just that the other five are based on vehicle types whose designs haven't changed as much in appearance as the look of that type of cement mixer has.

Though, Mixmaster is done as that kind of cement mixer not simply to be modernized, but also because that type of design is what the great big mining cement mixers look like, and all six of the Constructicons in this set are rendered as the giant mining versions of their respective altmode vehicles. The rear-mounted cement mixer design nowadays is used on the smaller-scale ones, while the bigger-scale mining ones use the front-mounted mixers. It's because they're all giant mining construction vehicles now that Mixmaster got his new look.

Rated X wrote:I wouldnt call it new generations style because ive never seen a cement mixer like that in person in my life. And I dont live in some small country town. I live in miami where construction goes on all the time and I see cement mixers parked roadside daily when I drive to work. Ive seen the picture here somebody posted so I know somewhere it does exist.
Right, you live in a city, where the only cement mixers to be found would be the smaller-scaled ones used for urban and suburban jobs. This new Mixmaster toy, however, is not one of those. This one is one of the bigger-scaled giant-sized cement mixers that would be found in mining quarries and deserts away from the city, performing tasks on a much grander level of operation (like working on enormous development sites and complexes), whereas the smaller-scale ones that you commonly see are not-nearly-as-giant-sized mixers that perform tasks on much lower level of operation by comparison.

Rated X wrote:Its not relevant in the construction world and its not relevant to G1 like the other 5 vehicles are.
As I said, all six of them have been updated from modestly-sized city construction vehicles to the gigantic-sized mining construction vehicles. The cement mixer (particularly the kind used for mining) is the only one of the six whose real world appearance has changed so drastically over the years, while the designs of the other five have remained more or less consistent in their appearances to this day.

But put the five other Constructicons next to their G1 toy counterparts (which the G1 cartoon animation models were very faithful to appearance-wise) and you'll see the big differences between the construction vehicle types of then and now:

To cap it off, look at all the teeny tiny ladder steps on all five of the Titan class ones. That shows how gigantic the mining vehicles are compared to the city-based ones. You could never get one of these things into a downtown area without plowing through buildings to make way for these things. They are simply too big. You will likely never see these things show up in your area of residence because of how ginormous they are.

So true, the vehicle modes modeled by the this batch of constructions are gigantic, you can see all the tiny ladders for people to climb on rendered in the designs. These are not vehicles
You would see every day.

I wish I was'nt so quick to order the Hasbro Devy.I love the extra details on the Takara versions. As confirmed in this interview this is as close as we will get to a masterpiece Devastator. This Devastator scales perfectly with masterpiece figures. I haven't even open the package yet so I probably buy a 3rd party upgrade kit....

It was confirmed in a YouTube review that this is also the 30th anniversary of Devy as the first combiner so this release is even more fitting.

Mass production takes time, Takara is spacing out their releases to suit the needs of their market, and probably other business reasons.

The more I see of Devastator the more I want it.

To me, the other vehicles look essentially like their classic counterparts with more added details. So if I had a say I too would prefer the classic Mixmaster truck style. But never mind that, I think the bigger issue is the wasp stinger on his backside in robot mode. ;)

Is Unite Warriors Defensor still slated for a December release as well? I was hoping it might get pushed up to October, so it wouldn't have to share a release month with Devastator. With Superion being released in June, and Menasor due later this month, that leaves a long gap in between Unite Warriors releases. Kind of an odd move.

I don't get it.

This guy designed Takara Devastator.
But the Hasbro Devastator is already out.
So did he design the Hasbro version first and then
Takara asked him to redo some things like elbows & weapons.

Or did Hasbro design Devastator and Takara just added the elbows/guns?

Anyway, I should be getting my Hasbro Devastator this week.
And he will probably be replaced by Takara Devastator half a year later. I just need this guy in my life as soon as possible.

I agree, Takara one looks better.

But wait, just to be clear, Yuki enhanced it by bringing back design elements that were initially talked about in the planning of Hasbrostator (which had been removed as the process continued).

Hasui was in charge of the project, but that doesn't mean Yuki couldn't have thrown Hasui some ideas along the way of what Yuki was gonna do for the Takara version afterward. It reads to me like Yuki told Hasui some ideas he had for the Takara version while Hasui was still working on the Hasbro version, and that Yuki held off working them into the design until after the Hasui was done with the Hasbro version.

Good interview, greatly appreciated. I do find it irksome that Hasbro required several features removed, but I will still get Hasbro Devy. I can get him cheaper and he will be combined almost the whole time. Even so, I like the idea that this is a partially inspired Masterpiece guy. He will look nice for all who get him. :BOT:

December sounds about right. It is getting released from the initial source (TTMALL) November 28 November 28, 2015. So the time it takes to get to the stateside warehouses would be well into december.

To me, the other vehicles look essentially like their classic counterparts with more added details. So if I had a say I too would prefer the classic Mixmaster truck style. But never mind that, I think the bigger issue is the wasp stinger on his backside in robot mode. ;)

Just for fun -- one of the 3P companies is working on a brand new CW Mixmaster (also with "scale" ladders, but for whatever reason, not a cartoon-accurate head like the official.)

I'm okay with the official, but at least there are two other options for fans that are really bothered by it.

OMG that 3rd party Mixmaster looks SO MUCH BETTER! The problem is, I'm wanting to get the UW Devy, and now I'm wanting to pay MORE to get this Mixmaster! ARGGG! :BANG_HEAD: I need to get a life. That Mixmaster looks BOSS though.

Well of course it looks good, it will probably also cost about half of what you're paying for hasbro-stator
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

I face-palm at my own geekyness. :BANG_HEAD: Right now, I'm just planning to get UW Devy, and then go from there. If I wanna get upgrades and extra figures later, then whatevar. >:oP
