Afterburner(Deluxe, not my pics)

I'm guessing that Afterburner looked a lot more "true red" in robot mode and had more of an orange tint in alt mode on the original cartoon? Looks like Takara wanted to err on the side of making a "perfect" representation of Afterburner in bot mode at the expense of a less screen accurate color for alt mode and limb mode on Computron? Not the decision I would have made myself, but I don't think there's much we can do now. Hasbro's orange-red color scheme for Afterburner is quite tempting, but the green windshield is odd, and all of his white parts are black instead, making for a very non-accurate robot mode. Can't seem to win either way. : /

I'm going to backtrack a bit on my previous assessment on the Cyclonus component. I've always preferred comic accuracy to cartoon accuracy, and UW Cyclonus's silvery-blue paint job is actually close to Galvatron in the Marvel comics, so I'm gonna count that as a plus. I still like the rich purple on Hasbro's better, and I still don't care for Roller, but I think I will pick up this set with my next bonus check, if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg by the middle of June.

I wouldn't mind Roller and Breakdown from this set. If you don't mind breaking your set up, maybe we can come to a deal over Roller?

That seems to be how Takara rolls, though. For whatever reason, they must figure Web World is the one episode that "got it all right" in terms of coloring. Every Cyclonus and Galvatron they do is a very pastel/pale shade of blueish purple. Hasbro misses the mark too, going for way too dark and saturated purples, that while they match Cyclonus' G1 toy, don't quite capture his coloring in the original cartoon. I think the ideal is somewhere in between Takara's and Hasbro's color choices. We can't win sometimes.

I'm a big fan of the dark purple myself; I don't know what it is but there's something very sexy about it.
At the same time, it does leave Scourge - who is universally recognized as dark blue - kind of the odd one out.

I'm going to do something similar to what I've done so far with my Universe deluxe Cyclonus molds and use the lighter hued Hasbro Challenge at Cybertron version as my main Cyclonus and the dark purple Universe 2008 single card releases as his "Armada." I plan to update them with Unite Warriors voyager Cyclonus as my main Cyclonus and use a few of the Combiner Wars voyagers as his Armada. Should look great next to the upcoming voyager Galvatron. I still haven't decided if I will go with Hasbro's or Takara's version for him, though. I can say that Legends Scourge will be the proper Scourge while a trio Hasbro ones will serve as his Sweeps.

Well, luckily it's easy enough to get them from the CW line - or their counterparts stuffed into Takara's Adventure (RID 2015) line.
I gotta admit, thinking about it now, Viper works a thousand times better for Grand Galvatron because unlike Galvatronus, Grand Galvatron is all about continuities mashing together. So throwing a GI Joe mech in there just magnifies that.
Shame about there being no Scrounge for Computicon, though.

Cyclonus looks FANTASTIC. I love that color on him! It's slightly more blue than he usually appeared on screen, but it's VERY close and no where near the pastel purple of his Henkei release years ago.

So much fun and ridiculousness. The color layouts, and the application of the paint is fantastic. Starscream has translucent paint on his translucent parts. I don't know that I have ever seen that before.
The stand outs for me are Cyclonus, Roller, and Breakdown. But all of the figures are creepy and cool in their own way. The new head sculpts are great.

Way to pull some weirdness out of your imaginations Takara. This set is going to fuel mine for good long while.

Uniting a Wandering Roller, an Armada Thrust, a Ghost Starscream, a Prime Breakdown under the vision of Cyclonus, Grand Galvatron sports new head sculpts and colour schemes.
