By the end of season 2, they had already used up all of their planned story material. They brought the Predacon in because they needed something new to help carry the story out to the intended 65th episode. The beast theme was a late decision tacked out as an afterthought. Like, take away Shockwave's Project: Predacon stuff and Predaking and there's really not that much meat to this season at all.

53-56 could have been condensed into two or three episodes had it not been for the amount of slow-paced mellow scenes and the bits with Predaking. 57-59 were pretty much all about Predacon bone hunting. 60 was a departure from this, as it chose instead to tie up some past loose ends. 61 was the end of the Predacon Project. And now 62-65 are the finale, which would be mostly the same without the few Predaking scenes that otherwise feel a bit out of place within the main plot that focuses on Synthetic Energon and Cybermatter. Without all the added Predacon-related stuff, 13 episodes could really be cut down to about 6 or 7 episodes of story material instead.

Pretty sure they stated they didn't plan on this season being the series finale, but they were told that it would be cut short in time to wrap up all loose ends without rushing it. Whether they succeeded in that endeavor is up for debate. And the BH toyline is there to pad shelves while Generations takes center stage until Movie 4 toys. This is pretty much a given, we know how movie toylines consume the shelves.

At SDCC, they said that, whenever they make a show, they always plan for three seasons as their maximum goal. What they weren't sure of is if they were or weren't going to get a fourth season, so they hadn't planned that far ahead yet. "Predacons Rising" came about as more of an afterthought than anything.

In an old interview with Geek Cast Radio, Steven Melching said this when asked about season 3 being shorter:
Well, most series-- That was always the plan going in, more or less. Most TV series, once they hit 65 episodes, they don't need to make anymore in order to make money. They can syndicate them overseas. It's not as big a deal here now, it used to be here, you know, you want your 65 episodes and once you hit 65, you can keep going, but for the company, for a while, the company was like, "You know what, we could keep spending more money making additional episodes or we can just stop and syndicate these and make something new." And, so we went in at the very beginning hoping to get to 65, and it was never a guarantee, but it's rare or it's unusual for a lot of shows to really go beyond 65.

We came into it knowing how we wanted to end the series, so... we weren't rushed into anything, and we're very happy, and, the way it's proceeding-- We're very happy with season 3.

So To night is the night... I just can't wait, I'm not sure what we see, but I'm certain it's gonna be epic!

While the result of last stand is rather obvious, I wonder did this episode is gonna be the last time we see Megatron & Co. Since seazon 2 is clear that Optimus is going to kill Megatron, and this is propably the first time when we can see scene of Optimus killing Megatron with any sense, but there is so many ways to defeat in much subtle and original ways.

Also Megatron is a trademark, one of the Transformers Icons, and one of the most promoted character in TF: Prime. Predacon Rising without him would be kinda empty.

Also I must admint, that I Really like idea of Starscream saving Megatron's life AGAIN. It is nice to see any kind of suprises in Megatron-Starscream relation.

Seriously!?

OK, if your skimming this, SPOILERS.

Bumblebee KILLED Megatron with the Star Saber. Not wounded. NOT incapcitated. KILLED. I had a big dumb grin on my face and hell yeah for justice, but when the reality of what I had just witnessed set in, I felt conflicted. Hell even Starscream wanted revenge, he actually got emotional. Like sad and angry. It was weird.
Megatron is dead, and while Predaking and the rest of the cons' live, I'm kinda reeling here. Why? I just. I can't.

Im not...upset, I don't think. Im just a bit shocked.
And Soundwave may as well have died! Shadowzoned? Good twist and ghostbusters reference slipped in there, but no more Soundwave, not for a while anyway. Laserbeak wasn't attached I don't think so maybe he'll find a way back...

Airachnid was MIA, Knockout attempted to join "The winning team" and was DENIIIIIEEED!!!!!!!!! and Shockwave and Starscream escaped. yay

Unless they break their "Dead means dead" rule, the next series will nead a new bad guy...

Wow that was epic.
My mind is blown. This series to me is so far my favorite yet. I can't wait for the movie this fall because I also wanna see Cybertron a little more.
The only problem I have is that there is no way the next Transformers series is going to top this one off. Unless they decide to give it an even more dark tone, but that's probably it.
I have loved almost everything on this series so far. I love all the characters, I love the writing, I love the fact that its freaking transformers. I wish it didn't have to end but I guess all good things have to come to an end.

So! Let's take stock shall we?

Megatron is dead! Sneak Attack - Critical Hit! 10x damage!
Bee is fixed and voiced by someone awesome.
Cybertron is fixed.
Ratchet is staying on earth!
UM is still busy cosplaying Impactor.
Aaaaaand Knock Out is joining the Autobots in Ratchet's stead!

I really like how this turned out! The finale was pretty great, and I'm looking forward to the movie. :) Also, that last little bit just makes me happy on it's own, poor guy never got enough love after Breakdown got axed.

As a Transformers fan, LOVE IT! So awesome, a decent end to a series that got cut short. Really looking forward to the movie!

As a Decepticon loyalist... Nooo, Lord Megatron! But I did enjoy the ending bit with Knockout.

Note: Direction of fall & who's supposed to be in said direction of fall. Being shut off is little to this being, especially since his arch-nemesis gets reactivated.

That, and I have a feeling that the next cartoon will be yet another "reboot", cause I don't think that a full season or three can be generated with the whole "Robots in disguise" theme with a fully functional Cybertron. OVA or movie-mini-series that wraps up the pertinent plot points, that I can see though...

The relatively quick synopsis, not necessarily in order...

Megatron gets Dark Saber. Swings, and the energy wave severs one side of Prime's wings. He crash lands on Omega Lock.
Rest of the Autobots infiltrate Nemesis. Break into two teams - Wreckers (Ultra Magnus, Wheeljack, Bulkhead) to take bridge, Stealth team (Arcee, Bumblebee, Smokescreen) to take over Omega Lock.
On way to Omega Lock room, Smokescreen turns on phase-shifter and departs Stealth Team.
Prime and Megatron fight goes on in between scenes. Both Heavy weapons (Prime's gatling gun, Megatron's dark saber) disarmed. Hand to hand ensues.
Ratchet tackles Shockwave to prevent firing of Omega Lock.
Wreckers get to bridge, Soundwave ground bridges them to center of Nemesis. Raf notices this, Jack comes up with a plan requiring infiltration of bridge. Jack and Miko (in Apex Armor) bridge to Nemesis command. Vehicons disposed of by Miko. When Soundwave sets up bridge to dump Miko, Jack calls Raf to beam second bridge behind 'Wave. Obligatory warning given, then reason for order recognized. Soundwave caught between two space bridges and "banished" to shadow zone (where Zombie Skyquake lives).
Arcee & Bumblebee get to Omega Lock as Ratchet is distracting Shockwave. Starscream shows up with his seekers. Minute or two later, Smokescreen shows up, with Star Saber from 'Con vaults. Attempts to get it to Prime, but Jack's steering shakes up the whole Nemesis and Smokescreen loses saber. Everyone mad rushes to the saber, with Bumblebee winning the race. Bee begins to climb down lock support, halfway down he jumps to deliver saber. Megatron feeds Bee 3x rounds of fusion cannon, chest fried, lights off on Bee.
Fighting dies down as Bee falls into cyber matter pool of Omega Lock and star saber falls on ledge of omega lock. Prime rampages, beats Megatron right over to Dark Saber, Megs grabs Dark, energy-waves Prime over the side of the lock. Prime holding on for dear life. Megatron gloats, till new voice calls his name. He turns to look, sound of sword impact as Bumblebee speaks about "Megatron taking his voice and never being allowed to steal anything else ever again". Beautiful dramatic scene of 'Bee holding saber that impaled Meg's heart, as cyber matter heals busted chest. Dramatic shutdown, Megatron falls off side and to Earth. 'Bee rescues Prime. Starscream calls for vengeance on Megatron, but is grabbed by Shockwave and 'Cons retreat. Death of Megatron announced, success at bridge taking credited to Humans, 'Bee invites Raf to Nemesis, off to Cybertron. Limited amount of Synth-En & Cybermatter call for dumping all material down Well of All Sparks to Cybertron's Core, where Cybertron reactivates. Predaking, climbing side of Nemesis, sees this and flies off to Cybertron's sunrise (and is seen by Autobots). Climax and goodbyes said on Earth, Ratchet stays behind to help the Humans (Fowler, Nurse Darby, the kids).

Best Transformers series ever, even surpassed G1, a nice send of that made sense and will continue onto the movie.

What I know from the Movie deals with Unicron returning and he somehow becomes one with Megatron possessing him.

Seeing this the Cons, Preadcons and Autobots battle Unicron.

Also those wanting to know what the 2014 Series will be, it is a complete reboot of the Franchise being the 30th Anniversary of Transformers 1984-2014 also is my 30th Anniversary and probably some others also have been with it as long as I have.

Unknown what type of Graphics the Reboot series will be using my money is on CGI being like Beware the Batman. Since 90% of all animation is now CGI.

Also based on my research & what I have uncovered points to it being a Complete reboot rather than a successor to Prime that is why Prime is getting that movie coming this Fall.

Also if you remembered a while back Hasbro trademarked ONE which I bet is going to be called TRANSFORMERS ONE instead of being just called Transformers.

Also I dont know if this is true or not true during my research I uncovered voice actors who will be in ONE and the Transformers they will be voicing. To me this seemed to good to be true as the original Generation 1 didnt have SLIPSTREAM.

For now I will treat that as a Grain of salt and will be marked as RUMORS.

But I do believe the series next year is & will be called TRANSFORMERS ONE. It will be on the HUB once again sometime in 2014 my money says SPRING/SUMMER OR LATE FALL.

But overall nice send of to Prime lots of action just sucks no more until 2014.

For now I am finishing up FALLING SKIES which has 2 episodes left. Thankfully got renewed for Season 4.

I'm happy with the ending. I feel like Smokescreen should've had the killing blow instead of Bumblebee, but I won't complain too much as he did have good reason to wanna run him through.

They also might've left a door open for a potential sequel series. This wouldn't be the first time a Megatron was presumed dead or survived re-entry from high orbit. Unless they stick to the "dead means dead" rule (which they've technically broken twice now), he could be revived for the next series if they don't just straight reboot it again.

Personally I think that 'Deadlock' should have been in three parts, since I felt that it was kind of rushed.

Also, Starscream being loyal kind of defeats the purpose of the character for me.

So the Nemesis is back in space? What was the point of going into Earth's atmosphere last episode for?

"HEY GUYS BUMBLEBEE IS GONNA SPEAK!!" completely destroyed the whole 5 minutes of drama over Bumblebee dying. And I'm amazed 3 shots from Megatron's cannon only made a relatively shallow hole.
But BB killing Megatron was an unexpected (and enjoyable) twist.

The rest seemed kinda expected, though. Soundwave hoisted upon his own petard (and calling back some old episode), Starscream and Shockwave running off somewhere, Knock Out defecting to the winning team, Cybertron being restored, the clone army inexplicably becoming a non-issue, Ratchet having a change of heart and wanting to stay on Earth instead of Cybertron... all typical finale tropes.

As someone who really doesn't care about the Autobots, the whole second half of the episode was pretty damn dull.

For a show that basically opened with killing a hero, it's kinda odd none of the other good guys bought it.

It was. Season three was originally supposed to be a few episodes longer, but for whatever combination of reasons it was cut back to 13. And Starscream's gotta put on a good show for the troops, surely you know him well enough by now. ;) It could also have been the shock of seeing him killed pretty certainly though, that spawned that out-of-character response.

SlyTF1 wrote:This episode pissed me off so bad... I haven't been this mad since the ending of ME3.

Any particular reason? It was a pretty solid ending, wrapped up stuff that needed wrapped up, and revived Cybertron, which was the goal from about the middle of season two to the end. We even got Bee's personal arc with Megatron wrapped up, which I wasn't expecting, and am happy how they did it.

Episode 65 (series finale) -

Jumping right into the battle, skipping over any onscreen arrival of the Autobots on the ship.

The very first scene is the "final battle" clip from before.

Once more, no opening sequence.

Too bad Megatron can't fly in robot mode. Optimus has that advantage, at least.

Or... he did. While Megs can still fly in vehicle mode. The tables have turned.

The idiom "Over my dead body!" gets yet another Cybertronian equivalent: "Over my sparkless husk!"

Soundwave, ever the GroundBridge troll.

Jack is seriously wanting to fight Soundwave. With backup.

YEAH! APEX ARMOR MIKO! She's Jack's backup.

Brilliant! They sent Soundwave to the Shadowzone! That is so BRILLIANT!

If there were ever a time for Soundwave to saying anything again, it'd be here, since he's trapped in an eternal purgatory and free to yell in outrage all he wants since no one will hear him.

Smokescreen's got the Star Saber! I like how he seems to have little difficulty carrying it.

NO! He's been hit!

Whoa! Go Bumblebee! He suckerpunched Shockwave right in the eye.

Bee's got the sword! Hurry! Get it to Optimus!

BTW, Optimus has been doing quite well against Megatron on his own, with needing the Star Saber. Not even against the Dark Star Saber.

No... NOOOOOOOO! BUMBLEBEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

DON'T DIE, BEE! DON'T DIIIIIE!!!

O, almighty Omega Lock, revive our fallen hero, imbue with life yet again, let him be restored by Cosmic Wisdom and Power!

Hello! My name is Optimus Prime! You killed my mascot! PREPARE TO DIE!!!

I want my mascot back, you spawn of a glitch!

INCONCEIVABLE!

Behold! A dramatic moment in history! The fantastic birth of Beeimus Prime! :P

At long last, after thousands of years, Bumblebee finally gets vindication for what Megatron did to his voice back on Cybertron during the war at Tygar Pax.

"You took my voice. You will never rob anyone of anything ever again!" - This is the single greatest Bumblebee of all time, counting all of his appearances in this show, the other show, the games, and the novels.

Starscream is in disbelief and utter shock of Megatron having been defeated. He even seems... saddened by it.

He cries out in outrage that he will avenge Megatron, his master. Shockwave, however, stops him and forces him to retreat.

That's Will Friedle voicing Bumblebee. Better known as Eric Matthews from Boy Meets World, Terry McGinnis/Batman from Batman Beyond, Ron Stoppable from Kim Possible, Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) from Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Doyle Blackwell from The Secret Saturdays, Lion-O from the 2011 ThunderCats remake cartoon, Deadpool from the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, and more. Though he's no Johnny Young Bosch, his voice and mannerisms make it easy for me to imagine WFC Bumblebee's voice maturing into this voice.

LOL, Starscream and Shockwave have to share an escape pod.

Say, where's Knock Out?

They don't enough Cyber-Matter to shoot at all of Cybertron's surface (since, in this continuity, Cybertron is much much larger that Earth), so they gotta shoot at the Core, at Primus's heart. Say hello to the Well of All Sparks.

And, appropriately, the Core retains its War for Cybertron design.

Ah, there's Knock Out. On the bridge with the Autobots, and they're all rightfully weirded out by his being there. :P

Knock Out: "What, I'm joining the winning team!"
Apex Miko: *PUNCH!* -

Oh my, Predaking made it back to Cybertron. Guess he hitched a ride on the outside of the Nemesis.

And there he goes.

Team Prime must return to Cybertron to rebuild. Jack, Miko, and Raf are gonna become semi-official members of Unit:E as "consultants" (until they're of age to become agents). Same with Ratchet, he feels he is needed on Earth.

What, Smokescreen's not gonna say goodbye to Jack? Jack bonded with him, too. Not just with Arcee.

Fare thee well, Autobots. 'Til all are one.

That was very very VERY satisfying for an ending. So much got done in about half of an episode, and then the rest was the final capping off. Seeing Bumblebee, of all Bots, be the one to slay Megatron was an unexpected yet very gratifying treat to behold. And Starscream actually feeling distraught over the loss of Megatron was the icing on the cake. Will Friedle was a perfect choice for Bumblebee and delivered his performance quite nicely. Seeing Ratchet both care about Earth/humanity to the point of willing to pay the ultimate price for it, and choosing to stay behind on Earth was so wonderfully handled and shows just how far he's come from the anti-human grump he was back in episode 1. And... agh, there was just so much awesome in this one! Soundwave being sent to the Phantom Zo--er, I mean Shadowzone, Apex Armor Miko's return, Smokescreen going for the Star Saber, Optimus not needing the Star Saber for most of his fight with Megatron, Knock Out being Knock Out, Predaking being allowed to go live his life freely, Cybertron being restored, the Nemesis being commandeered by the Autobots, Starscream and Shockwave getting away humorously, it was all just so GOOD!

And with that, it is over. All that remains is the epilogue film that was made as an afterthought, coming later this Fall. Till then, Transform and Roll Out!
"When there's gold feathers, punch behind you!!"

Caelus wrote:My wife pointed out something interesting about the prehistoric Predacons. I said that everyone was complaining because transforming for them mostly consisted of them just standing up-right. She essentially said, 'So? That's what our ancestors did.'
