Me too A loved Animated Starscream, but they turned him from a ruthless immortal to... an even whinier G1 Starscream.

The only difference between Animated and Prime Starscream is immortality. Well, design and voice as well, obviously. Both of them are shown scheming behind Megatron's back, and only pulling power plays when he's either not looking, or when his inevitable retaliation doesn't concern them. Actually, throw G1 Starscream on that pile as well.

Though, Animated Starscream has shown his ego to be a bit bigger, whereas Prime Starscream has kept that side of himself toned down a bit more.

True. Still, I think we can all agree the best Starscream was Armada Starscream. Mostly because he was so far from traditional Starscream that he ended up being much closer to BW Dinobot. And I'm okay with that.

Which episode did you start with? And which one are you moving onto after that? Because it probably gets better.

The first one I saw was "Con Job" where they meet Wheeljack, and the second one I saw was "Convoy" where the Autobots and Fowler were being chased by MECH.
Why not start from the beginning of the show with "Darkness Rising, Part 1"?

Uh...because I catch it when they show random reruns at 1:30 a.m.
Although, "Darkness Rising Part 1" is available free on iTunes...maybe I'll watch it on vacation this weekend. I'm just not ready to buy the whole season when I've barely seen anything yet.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

I dunno. I want to like Armada Starscream, but there was just something about him that rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it was his voice. I mean, I find it difficult to hear the typical Starscream voice (or as best an imitation of it as Michael Dobson could do) being used for a Starscream who wanted to legitimately switch sides. No matter how I look at it, that voice just says "bad guy" to me.

Maybe once I watch Micron Densetsu subtitled in English (if it ever gets subbed by anyone, that is), I may find a better appreciation for the guy. It also helps that the typical Japanese voice of Starscream sounds less like a cliche "bad guy" voice and more like a well rounded, if "bishonen", voice, which would sound more believable for a character like Armada Starscream.

Or, it might have just been the dubbing of Armada in general that kept that Starscream from clicking with me.

I dunno, I remember his voice sounding like a less villainous version of his voice in Prime.

True. It does sound less villainous in Armada, but it still kinda has that "evil scheming minion" feel to it.

Okay change of topic. As much as I would hate to be called a hypocrite. I was planning to do a crossover fanfic with a character of my creation with the TF Prime cast. And I'll try not to sound like I'm bashing on it. I mean really My thoughts have changed on Prime I don't hate it to a degree of sounding GEEWUN I only now hate it on certain bits. So anyone want to hear the premise and give thoughts.

To be fair, I never thought of that. On the other hand, any time I miss an episode, I have it on DVR. or it'll rerun fairly soon.

Everyone have a backstory.
And that's a problem. 18 episodes in and he still hasn't had his own spotlight episode. All the other Autobots have been given their fair share of focus to let themselves shine in the spotlight, and yet not Optimus? Why not?

Maybe saving it for a special occasion? Wouldn't you save the character with the most important backstory for a special occasion? That, and if and when they deal with it, they're probably going to have to finally reconcile Prime with WfC.

Actually, come to think of it, it would be pretty awesome to see flashbacks with WfC's designs and style.

Sorry to bring this back up since it's a pretty old post, but I seem to remember Hasbro stating that Transformers Prime was all about what it meant to be a Prime and the leader of the Autobots. But then again, that is old now and hasn't been repeated since the fist promos of the show where released.

For those living in the US, you can also watch full episodes on the hub website.

And it'll be of a higher quality than youtube.

Not only would it be awesome, but it would make sense and be very smart for them to do that, since it was their WFC bodies that these characters all had in the Exodus novel as well.

However, as much as I am dying for them to do that for sake of continuity, I fear that they won't do that at all for the following reasons:
  • The show and games were done by different animation studios, and so Polygon may not have access to the WFC game models.
  • It would be less expensive to just use the existing Prime models for all flashback footage.
  • The WFC models look very different Prime models, and so such differences might confuse some of the younger viewers who never played the games.
  • Despite the differing styles between the games and show, Hasbro's insistence on them being in the same mega continuity may be all that they'd rely on to keep them together, rather than actually trying to visually reconcile them together like how want them to.
It really pained me to write that. :BANG_HEAD:

I recall them repeating that claim last month at BotCon as well. And yet, this show still has yet to do just that. Maybe season 2 is where it'll get into that.

Well let's talk about what just happened:

-Another Arcee/Bulkhead episode? I'm fine with Arcee, but come on, Bumblebee, Ratchet, and Prime need some attention.

-GODDAMN IT MIKO. Well, at least she made up for it by showing just how dedicated she is to Bulkhead, even unwilling to leave him with the threat of death by Starscream.

-Speaking of, if Starscream is going to defect, he's got damn good reason. How many people would stay at their job when their boss takes them to an abandoned mine to kill them executioner-style?

-I'm loving this new Megatron. He can pull off a menacing glare like he's going for the Nobel Prize in Glaring. And he's one of the few Megatrons to point out that yeah, he knew Starscream was scheming behind his back. So he took him to an abandoned mine to kill him executioner-style.

-Jack is getting more awesome. How many other humans in this series would commandeer a giant drill-tank? Not many, I'd bet!

-I am consistently impressed by the facial animation on Starscream. He is spectacularly expressive.

And what's all this crap about Optimus not killing Decepticons? Damnit, Prime Optimus! This is why I like movie Optimus. He cuts the crap and goes sraight for killing everyone! Okay, first things first, Jack just earned about a dozen man points. 8) Initiative, cool head, quick thinking, competency, and battle mercy were all displayed. That one scene where he activates the driller is awesome, not in of itself, but in what it implies. He can understand the control diagrams, schematics and language, after just a few seconds of study. He must have been working his tail off back at the base with Arcee the past few months to master basic Cybertronian tech and language. The guy has serious life skills. No wonder his mom trusts him so much.
This episode illustrates what I like most about the series. It is all about the subtle; no flashy “heroic” music, no dramatic pauses, no drama for the sake of drama, Bulkhead or Jack, the guy just jumps in and did what needed to be done.
Except for Starscream, he seems to have drama instead of energon coming out of his spark chamber.. :P
Another thing I like. Stupid has consequences in this show. Miko is sloooowwly, learning this, but that denseness :BANG_HEAD: is realistic in its own way. Sometimes it requires painful results for people to earn some common sense. While her lack of a strong survival instinct is part of what makes her such a cool character it seems to be becoming tempered with a little of Bulks common sense. I wonder if they’ll take this cause/effect reality check to the logical extreme and have her face the prospect of having gotten someone, preferably Bulkhead for max emotional trauma, killed by her actions?

You must be new to this franchise. The Decepticons always lose.

This isn't the movies.

YES! Jack is becoming easily the best human in the franchise. Clever and competent, without needing a fancy AllSpark Key or powered armor.

Yes but let's be honest here, he's better that way.

:BOOM:

Dude, this is the best defense of Miko I've ever heard, and this is coming from someone who stopped defending her after Shadowzone.

Well said!

I am finding Jack to be prolly my fave human character in the entire history of Transformers... Miko is definitely starting to grow up... it's a slow process... but we're seeing that she's beginning to realise that her actions are gonna have consequences...

And talk bout Megatron! Epic!!! Took poor old 'screamer down the shaft to personally stick it to him! One of the best Megatrons in the making! Am gonna call it!

And what bout Starscream??? Am loving Steve Blum's interpretation, and by extension, Team Prime's vision for the character.... Something bout this Starscream jus... screams... LEGEND - wait for it.... - ARY!!! :p Can't wait to see where they take this guy....

This isn't the movies.

T'was the joke. The same prime design (if not, its close enough), but drastically different personality. But after watching the bay movies, all i can think of when they were all "WWPD?" all that ran threw my head was "Gimme your face!!!!!!".

I really wish prime would get a few episodes to build up his character more. even if its flashbacks.

Episode 19 -

Where does Miko get all that energy of hers? I want some. ;)

We see that this Starscream is truly afraid of Megatron in this show. He doesn't hate Megs and want to overthrow him simply because of some glorified ego trip, but because he genuinely fears Megatron and would rather have him gone than have him always looming over Starscream like some nightmarish specter.

Jack must made out of very stern stuff to come out of that cave-in without even a single injury. He literally gets up from being buried by rocks and just starts walking around as though nothing had happened to him (aside form his being covered in dirt).

Bulkhead: "Did I do that?" - Bulky has become the next Urkel. And the next Atlas (of Greek Mythology). :P

Starscream's got a real inner dilemma in this episode (save his hated leader, or face his leader's certain wrath later).

This was a very Starscream-focused episode. It doesn't even end, it just sort of... stops. Leaving us all wondering what Starscream's fate will be (though, spoilers from episode 20 reveal that he survives, but now we may know why he'd wanna defect).

SlyTF1 wrote:I'm sick of the Autobots winning every episode. The Decepticons haven't won a single one yet, except for MAYBE the very first episode.
The Autobots won nothing in this episode. There was no victory for either side. Everyone survived.

SlyTF1 wrote:And what's all this crap about Optimus not killing Decepticons? Damnit, Prime Optimus! This is why I like movie Optimus. He cuts the crap and goes sraight for killing everyone! Prime Optimus, learn from movie Optimus and stop teaching the Autobots morals! The war would have been over from the start if movie Optimus was in charge.
Movie Optimus could learn a thing or two about mercy and compassion from Prime Optimus. With those words by Jack alone, Prime Optimus is looking better and better than Movie Optimus since he's starting to fit better into the "Optimus Prime" mold than Movie Optimus ever did. Heroic, compassionate, considerate, and above all, righteous. :D

Movie Optimus, however, is no better than the Cons at all.

Ever seen the Nolan Batman films? Recall how Bats doesn't kill even when the enemy is down, and yet he still comes out on top. Jack could have struck Megs, but he's a better person than that. He took the better route, rather than sink down to the same level as the Cons.

Another good episode. Not the best, but not the worst either.

I have to say though, this is the second episode back-to-back with Arcee and Bulkhead. I mean, I like the both of them, but lets not give them the spotlight constantly. Ratchet and 'Bee need some attention (especially Ratchet).

I think we should extend that and say Batman in general. Actually, while we're at it, the majority of superheroes.
