Thinking more about Beast Wars & the Pretenders, it really makes me want an update with articulation. Even if they got to go Full Backpack.

I remember that screamer shell, and after looking at some pics, I remember playing with that Grimlock at my step brothers house. Silly indeed. And damnit, now im.looking these things up online.

You know, half surprised RID hasn't done the pretender thing, articulation wise it would be pretty set for what they seem to offer. Nor are there any 3rd party offerings it seems. Though that may change if the prime masters do well enough, a 3rd party might attempt something, seeing as pricing wise, the constraints are a little looser.

RID didnt do traditional Pretenders, but did a version of Bludgeon -- while cool, is certainly no substitute for the G1 original.

I searched 3P as well, to no avail -- all I'm askin' for is a Masterpiece-scale Bludgeon. Easy, right?

So, I've been building those makepla Sentai kits with my daughter here and there, and it just hit me. How awesome would something like that be. Build your own pretender and shell. The original pretender bots are simple enough that it would be entirely possible.

I'd totally go for a Build-a-Pretender -- it'd be cool!

I've seen people do really cool customs -- but that's way beyond my level.

The only thing I could find is some remnant of a (failed?) Kickstarter. Action figures based on Pretender characters. No inner bot. Pure Marvel-Select style.



I wonder what became of this project by Play With This Too?

Probably couldn't get enough funding. It is an interesting idea. Not sure that would be a purchase for me without the whole pretender gimmick though.

I'd also require the Pretender gimmick as well -- it's the reason I didn't look too hard for the recent RID Bludgeon.

Many have beed remade as standard TFs over the years. However, a TRUE update need to happen. The Prime Masters are close enough for now.

Wow that goes back a few years now. I remember when it popped up, I was following it ... I think. Whatever happened, it resulted in mass disappointment.

It's really too bad for them. Many are called, few succeed.

Also, now that I'm slowly unpacking after my sudden move, I need to find my box of Pretenders and put them on a shelf. Also, those Prime Masters I bought have to be finally be removed from their packaging and be displayed too.

Now, WHERE is that bloody box?

That really is too bad. Those looked pretty nice. Guess we'll just have to hope HasTak delivers more than the Prime Masters.

Speaking of which, are my files to large off my phone? All my pictures end up sideways when posted.
While at work I took a moment to share at some loose shells and thought it wouldn't be so bad to try and mod one up that is super banged up to put articulation in the arms.

Hmmm....I haven't had the side-flip image issue, but if I'm trying to attach a pic, it's best if it's a JPEG. If the image was too big or in the wrong format, it'll tell ya.

If nothing else, you could use imgflip.com to edit the pic, then upload -- mine are all from my iPhone (hence the sub-par resolution).

If you are going to try to add articulation to a shell, I'd be interested to see it!

What I usually do is download the image to my computer first, then open it in Windows Explorer's Photo Viewer, rotate (it saves the orientation automatically, even if the thumbnail doesn't show as such), then upload from there. No fancy programs needed.

That sounds like actual work to just flip a photo. Though, I haven't really been using a computer lately while I wait for a replacement cord for my laptop to arrive. I'm actually using my wife's laptop for the first time since she passed August 30th. It's a little weird to be doing so, but I'm about to start cleaning up the files and such on it so my son can take it to college with him. It's stronger than his current laptop is. But, anyway, yeah, staring at the arms, I can see the possibilities. It wouldn't be too hard I dont think with the right tools. Just a somewhat S shaped cut through around the elbow, round off the parts a little bit so the can rotate. Drill a hole and peg it through. THough that depends on the arms not being hollow or brittle.

What shell(s) are you thinking of experimenting with, Aces? You could definitely find them alone (no innerbot) for cheap.

You want elbows? Gut some Beast Wars figures.

Been goofing around with the prime masters, and yeah, they are a little bit for the legends guys I use them with when in weapon mode...but...all I can picture is Cliffjumper holding one and it is ok. With some of wave 2 of PotP out, went searching for some more, new Prime masters, but no luck. Question, does anyone in this thread own one of animal pretenders, and if so, how good are they? Also, went through old family photos and found one of me playing with one of the constructor pretender monster, blue rocky looking one. Explains my love of this silly gimmick.
