So here's my latest acquisition off E-Bay. $134AU with postage. I didn't win it for the Trumpet, I won it for the mutes and stand.
15138466_10154840726223678_3497579050062741667_o.jpg

The Trumpet itself is a "Venus", some Chinese brand. It's actually not THAT bad. It's cheap, but not nasty. I was able to hit C above the staff quite easily.

The mouthpieces have no brand name, so they may not be as expensive as I hoped they would be. The mutes however are all Dennis Wick. It also came with a Precision padded gig bag.

So all up the accessories would be close to $500AU. Hence why I snapped it up.

And now I have a red Trumpet just in time for Christmas. :-P

Red trumpet is cool. I always wanted one of the black lacquered saxophones. I ended up spending my money on Transformers and keyboards, though... :-D

Proud long-time Brass instrument player. Started on Trumped back when I was 9, moved to Baritone/Trombone when I was 12, picked up the tuba when I was 15.

Went to my district band 3 years, regional band 3 years, made state band 1 year on Tuba, and I was runner up for the all-east band that year. Still play tuba in college for the marching band.

Will be graduating in a month and a half though, so I'm not sure what happens next brass-wise

I loved my high school euphonium. Fun story: despite the fact I was the section leader for the tubas, on senior night my senior year the song chosen had a euphonium solo, and we didn't have anyone capable of playing it, so for that song, I played euphonium to do the solo, and then got recognized right after I played it (the song was on repeat while the seniors were recognized)

The Eupho I played in High School was a Yamaha, damn good instrument. The other Eupho player had a Yamaha as well, different model though, no where near as good, or I was just the better player, not sure. :-P

The Eupho the community band has is a piece of ****. It's cheap, it's nasty, we had to send it to the repair guy soon after getting it because it was cheap and nasty. Tarnishes very easily, valves are sluggish, not a nice instrument to play.

Got an e-mail this morning from one of the other band guys who was forwarding on an e-mail. One of the older guys in the North Qld area is downsizing his collection and is offloading a circa 1948 Besson Trumpet ($850). Told him thanks, but I have five Trumpets already. :-P

Wow! 5? I like the red one the best. Well it looks the coolest at least.

And, it's not the axe that makes a good player good. It's the player.
A good player can make the crappiest instrument sound like it was built in Olympus.

Though there are some poopy instruments out there.

There are. Despite it really just being a novelty that red Trumpet is actually better than the one Dad bought me when I was in school.

Okay gang. I need reviews from my fellow musicians.

I am looking at some new keyboards for live performance (80's music, synth heavy, with some B3 stuff). So I'd like input from everyone who uses boards....what do you have, what do you like about it, and what are the cons to them (NOT Decepticons in this case...)? I will be needing two 61 key boards.

Thoughts?

I don't think they are 61 key keyboards, but the keyboard player I played with for years swore by his Nord Lead (for a huge bank of classic synth sounds) and, I believe it is called the Nord Classic, which has great B3 emulation as well as awesome electric piano sounds like , Rhodes and Wurlitzer, and more.
they were both small, sturdy, and great for giging and touring.

Other than that my knowledge keyboards is not that extensive. I do know that the synth rabbit hole is a deep one, so be careful, and good luck!

Edit: Just did a quick search at Sweetwater.
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/manufacturer/Nord

Also maybe what I thought was the Nord Classic is actually called the Nord Electro. ;)

Yeah, the school music teacher in town loves his Nord.

Keep spare fuses though. His popped a few minutes before we were due to play so he had to sit out.

I can't remember if I've ever told the tale of a Euphonium I got from E-Bay. Long story short, many years of getting excuses from the repairer ... much money spent ... Euphonium returned to me after lawyers were engaged.

I then took it to a second repairer who gave me the honest opinion that it was ****.

So what to do with it ... plant holder? Lamp?

How about ... Still Life Model?

I have splurged! I've grown tired of sore lips from hitting those high notes, and even though the GF stole them from me, I have used gold rimmed mouth pieces before, but only 2's and 3's.

So hopefully this will help me in the upper range

Pretty expensive I know, but I can pay it off over a few months AND I'll be working 2 out of 3 Saturday mornings for the foreseeable future so I have a bit of money to spare.

You know what they say, Sore lips sink ships.

Or is that loose lips? :-?

I've never heard of that as a problem. So since gold is a softer metal, it's easier on your lips?
That's interesting.

In a way, yes. I'm going to get a new Roland Juno, but I'm doing a lot of digital upgrades using a program called Brainspawn Forte. Allows for you to make "sets" for songs which you can change with a mouse click. WIll have to get a bunch of USB to MIDI converters. On top of that, I'm going to get some rack-mount gear, including an 8 channel stereo mixing board to run all my synths off into the mains without eating the channels on the main board. Also have a friend who is helping me to...um..."acquire" about 7,000 patches. Everything will run through an ASUS Republic of Gamers laptop with 32GB of RAM and an external SSD drive. I plan on having four boards on stage...three for synth purposes and a stage piano for when I have to do lead vocals. Plus a Roland AX-7 Keytar, and an Aire drum machine to replicate the old Roland CompuRhythm C-78 sounds for our 80's tunes.

It will be beautiful.
