Well, I’m still not going to share spoilers, but I’ve thought about it all day, and it’s wrong to keep completely quiet.

If you didn’t enjoy The Last Jedi, you are gonna want to stay far, far away from Rise of Skywalker.

Far away, you will be legit pissed you spent money on a ticket. You’ve been warned.

The Last Jedi was used toilet paper. You're saying this will be even worse? I pretty much gave up hope after TLJ, so I was going to see ROS simply out of morbid curiosity. But now I'm not sure...

I've already seen a lot of contradictory reviews and comments about it, with some saying it's a slap in the face to TLJ, with others praising it as the logical follow up to that movie...Is this going to be one of the things where critics generally like the movie but the fans are more divided?

I ignore critics like the plague, so I couldn't say. Fans will always have different opinions. All I'm saying, is if you had a legit problem with TLJ, based on storyline, plot, character development (or lack of), that kind of thing, then you are going to hate ROS.

Any fan of Star Wars will love a movie on first viewing. When I first say TLJ, I was kinda blown away. After a day or two to process, and defiantly after I watched it on digital, I realized it was complete trash. Hell, I never even finished that second viewing. To date, its the only Star Wars film I've watched less than two times. The rest I'll watch several times a year. I doubt I'll even buy ROS when its out on discount in six months.

To me, JJ Abrams is Hollywood. In human form. Every aspect of him as a person reflect what Hollywood really is down to every detail. He's all about smug hype and empty promises with nothing to deliver on. JJ is the Hollywood soulless by the number cash machine and nostalgia and pandering given a vaguely human form. He was a bad choice for Star Trek, he's been a bad choice for Star Wars but Hollywood has basically declared him to be Spielberg 2.0 so we're stuck with his cancerous touch for decades to come.

See I actually liked the first Star Trek film, but it was a standalone film, not part of an overarching story. Same with his M:I film, while goofy, was its own thing. And I like Alias for the first few seasons. His style works better for TV where he can play the long game, even if he doesn’t come up with satisfying answers. But Star Wars isn’t a story about mysteries and unanswerable questions.

Especially since he's signed some kind of exclusivity deal with Warner Bros, do we could see him on DC comic projects.

So I just saw Rise of Skywalker and I actually enjoyed the movie. It was pretty good, definitely the best of the Disney trilogy. It wasn't better than most of the other movies, but as far as storytelling, I'll put it on par with Phantom Menace. There were a few things I would have changed, but overall it was a positive. If you liked what came before Force Awakens, go see this one. I didn't like the fight at the end, as powerful as Palpatine was made to be, he was defeated way too fast. I also didn't like the final interaction between Rey and Ben. I thought Ben should have lived, the 2 of them together representing the Skywalker family, since he's truly the last Skywalker. Otherwise, the cameos and small parts from older characters was good, none of them were wasted, except Palpatine himself. He should have been given more to say and more to do, his part seemed too rushed. And they also went crazy with the resurrected Star Destroyer fleet. There were just way too many of them. Leia's death was also kind of rushed, and made no sense. She was fine one moment, and dead the next. Rey stabbing Ben couldn't have had that much effect on her, not enough to kill her anyway. Especially since it didn't kill him. Otherwise, it was a decent ending to the saga, it's just too bad it was preceded by garbage. I also wish we would have gotten force ghosts from Anakin, Obi Wan and Qui Gonn.

I don't know what reviews you are reading but go to CBM online, of course the person that wrote the article is biased and posts bad reviews instead of positive.

After having seen ROS, my opinion of Force Awakens has improved slightly. I can even see ROS being a straight sequel to Force, with TLJ totally omitted. Yes, that would skip over Luke's death, but that's about it. Nothing else in TLJ is worth remembering.

https://www.gamesradar.com/uk/star-wars ... er-review/ - these gave it four stars (saying starts off slow but raises its game as it goes along)

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/d ... dam-driver - These gave it four stars as well (these also loved The Last Jedi so your miliage may vary)

https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/1 ... -end-saga/ - another 4 stars and another reviewer who loved TLJ...

And a round up of more good and more bad ones https://www.mirror.co.uk/film/star-wars ... w-21119764 though interestingly that includes a different guardian review to the seperate one I linked to. In the round up article the guardian review gave it three stars.

Opinion on twitter is more divided as you'd expect with some complaining about it ignoring some of TLJ while others complaining that it didn't retcon all of TLJ (no pleasing some people). Though I'm not sure retcon is the right language here as I'd argue that things were always planned this way, with red herring information planted to confuse. Basically, Rian and J. J knew exactly what was going on but didn't want to give anything up till the very end... Like every show or project J. J works on.

Nice!

This is what "fans" fanboys or whatever the **** (word censor?? really? idiots) they are calling themselves now a days (scroll through the comments to gets fans opinions). Granted the writer Josh Wilding is a f'ing idiot that thinks he stands for all fans with his articles (all his articles)

https://www.comicbookmovie.com/sci-fi/s ... ws-a172327

https://www.comicbookmovie.com/sci-fi/s ... ie-a172331

They seem to have pulled two articles that were there earlier this morning, they must have gotten heated.

And I never listen to critics, I follow my own path when it comes to movies. Critics like most people in society think that they are so important and their opinions (not facts) matter and no one else's does. They all need to be put into a rocket and fired into the sun.

Previously I basically said I was going in with one expectation, for this movie to suck.

It far exceeded my expectations. They did a pretty good job of cleaning up their mess.
I didn't hate it, and it didn't suck.

Is it the greatest Star Wars film ever made? No.
Is it a giant pile of hot steaming Kennedy/Johnson doo doo? Definitely not.

I was entertained, and am relieved.

This is what I thought as well. I just wish they didn't rush the back story involving Palpatine, I would have loved a more elaborate explanation on his connection to Rey.

And Cyber Bishop, I completely agree with you on critics. Especially those who are fanboys who take themselves too seriously and think their word is gospel.

Watched it today. I did enjoy it. There were a few things that bugged me, mostly the pacing, some of the plots were just terrible, and I agree with RP, you could pretty much disregard TLJ except for a handful of plots.

It's over now, and we can go back to ignoring this sequel trilogy until Disney try to shove it down our throats again.

I did not hate it, but I didn't like it. It feels like they are trying to do their own condensed version of several EU stories, and failing miserably.

Why they could just follow the roadmap laid out by over 20 years of excellent storytelling will forever be beyond me.

Now, I'm not throwing fits and life does go on just fine, but I'm left feeling quite sad. Especially when you consider how good Rogue One is, and how good The Mandalorian is. These movies could have been amazing, they could have be phenomenal, instead they are just average at best. :(

The good news, is even though the new Disney trilogy is trash, and the new Disney Era novels (aside from Zahn's new Thrawn books, and even those are lacking) are trash, there is still so much good in Star Wars franchise that enjoyment will continue to be had. Especially as I continue to enjoy the old EU books, and will to the day I die.
