Yet merge with Yu-Gi-Oh! and you get Bakugan, a successful card/board game.

Based on the hint, I'm betting the next one is RiD Megs/Galvy's Giga Claw Mode.

While it's kinda dumb in theory, the guy did put it to good use when he used it. Punching through a building to build an ominous mood in his debut, carrying nearly all of his troops in his palm to kill Optimus at the moment when he was most vunerable, merging with his Megastar base to duel Fort Max on his own epic level, etc.

It may have been kinda weird, but it did prove to be a useful form at times.

Hehe, I like the list. Of course I'm the one who originated it all. I've got an idea for another one..

Keep it up with the list Sam.. I've got too many 'good' toys.. nothing I can really find that has a degrading alternate mode..

Okay.. maybe that BWII Poop Shooting Rabbit and Penguin.. :P

That wouldn't fit his criteria as it can move under it's own power and doesn't need wielding.

Okay then. If the "show of hands" part isn't the clue, maybe it's the "see" part. As in, maybe it's someone who turns into something that has to do with sight. Like the Real Gear robot Longview (binoculars), or anyone with a microscope altmode (G1 Perceptor, Magnificus, Scalpel) or even one of the camera altmode bots (Reflector, Armada Laserbeak, the camera Real Gear bots).

Oh, that reminds me. Armada Laserbeak had a handgun altmode, but was left out of number 4. Browning isn't the smallest TF, he's got Armada Laserbeak to compete for that title. ;)

I'm not surprised that nobody guessed this one. It's not one you'd think of right off the bat. At first glance it doesn't even seem that bad. Once I really started thinking about it I realized just how badly these guys get the shaft.
(Note: for the purposes of this entry, I'll be sticking to the Combaticons, at this can pretty much be applied to all the others)

#3: Limbs

Everyone loves combiners. Nothing wrong with a buncha robots that turn into one big robot. Arguably most popular among them are the Scramble City style combiners. The idea was simplified and streamlined for great effect (barring some major scaling issues, but then what's Transformers without scale issues?)

Image
Jeeps are totally the same size as tanks... and space shuttles...

Combining, however, is not as glamorous as people would like to think. Has anyone ever thought about the bots that become the limbs?

Image
Check out the treads on that tank!

Let's say you become a leg. Like Brawl up there, you're stuck with the weight of the whole combined robot standing on you the whole time. Your lot in this partnership of robots is to be repeatedly stepped on, stood on, or in rare cases, being used to kick things.

Image
TO ARMS! (sorry, that was bad)

Being an arm isn't much better. Sure you're not being used as a step-stool to make the rest of the robot feel taller, but your whole gig is holding stuff all day.

Image
"Blast Off, can you hold this rifle for me?"
*sigh* "yeah, whatever."

Other than holding stuff, you'e the go-to bot if the combiner needs to punch somebody out. This basically means they swing your body at someone and use you as a battering ram.

Combiners are cool. But being stepped on or used to hit things all day cannot be considered a win in my book.

Suit up for #2, coming your way as soon as it can!

"Suit up". Could this be referring to Pretenders? Or some sort of body armor component like Godbomber, Victory Leo, RiD Ultra Magnus, the guys who combined with Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime, etc.?

It has to be. And I don't blame them. Having your body torn apart and attached to another bot who's totally in control isn't exactly what I want to happen to myself. In the Brave meta-series, there's pretty much one team per series that has a "power-up" member, turning most of their bodies into Boots of Justice and the rest into armor and wings (Hawk Saber from Da Garn being the exception). The main bots had the same thing, but it can't get any worse than this: meet J-Decker and Duke Fire combined: Fire J-Decker. Have I told you that Duke Fire is an unused Transformer concept?

Well, the work week from hell is finally over, now it's back to my list!
As many of you guessed, the topic of today's entry is:

#2 Armor

If you thought being stood on, or being used to hit things all day was bad...

Our first armor-bot comes to us in the form of Masterforce's Godbomber!

Image
This mode's important!

Godbomber, while technically not actually being a living robot, is one of the first (or maybe the first) examples of a robot who becomes power up pieces for another robot
(looking suspiciously like Optimus Prime... you may start to notice a pattern as you read on)

Image
Specifically this guy.

Image
Ginrai's wardrobe provided by: Godbomber Fashions

In this case, Godbomber gets the "distinction" of becoming a shirt, backpack, pair of gloves and some kickin' platform boots.

Next show, you get Victory Leo. Rebuilt from the fallen Ginrai. He's always fun!
In Masterforce he was God Ginrai,

Image
Hey, guys... remember me?

He was the leader! He was the most powerful of the Godmasters!

Then Victory rolled around...

Image
I went berserk in my first episode! Can you tell I was built by Perceptor and Wheeljack?

Image
Wheeljack, why the f*** did you build Victory Leo with a small brain?

Image
Simple brain, Optimus!

Image
What ever.

...and he got shafted down to backpack and shoes duty.

Image
My life is a joke.

In the years since then there have been many robots who you could probably find on a hanger in Optimus Prime's closet.

RiD:

Image
I'm the greatest warrior on Cybertron!

Image
Hey, I need a boost!

Image
SO MUCH ARMOR I CAN'T STAND STRAIGHT!

Armada:
Image
I could really use a new pair of pants!

Image
Which colour would you prefer?

Image
Well, this one goes better with what I'm wearing...

Image
But if I change my outfit...

The ensemble nearly complete, Prime realized he needed a backpack.

Image
Sup, guys?

Image
PERFECT!

Megatron even got in on the action in Armada

Image
Tidalwave, come here for a second, I want to try something.

Image
This feels... so wrong.

Energon:

Energon added two more robots to Optimus Prime's wardrobe.

Image
Come on, Wingsaber... let me wear you!

Image
Stylin'!

Image
And it's reversible!

Image
Who can become my next fashion victim?

Image
Optimus Prime, I've been reactivated after centuries of sleep to...

Image
Never mind...

Cybertron:

Image
I've got a new form again.. time to go shopping!

Cybertron saw Prime getting a hand from one of his friends (who I totally should have added in my Limbs entry, sorry Ligerjack) but eventually, he went back to his ways of wearing one of his warriors like a jacket.

Image
From jet, to robot, to t-shirt with impressive wingspan and back again!

Once Cyberton ended, we went a while without Optimus Prime feeling the need to humiliate any more warriors by wearing them, but we all knew it was only a matter of time.

Revenge of the Fallen brought it back in full force, though modified slightly.

Image
I'm old, I don't move as well as I used to. You'd have to kill me if you wanted to wear me...

Image
The finest corpse-suit ever made! Special thanks to my tailors, Ratchet and Jolt!

That about wraps up the fashion show, I'll be hauling the next entry out as soon as I can!

You forgot Victory Leo, when, for once, was the only time Optimus Prime was worn by another robot (technically, since Lio was the resurrected Ginrai).

I'm also very curious who makes it to #1.

Victory Leo shoulda been on the list. It's for armors, but just Prime's armors.

Also shoulda mentioned Power Core Combiners where a poor minicon becomes armor for the bigger bot. Does that mean TFs practise discrimination on Cybertron? We'll have to wait for the tell-all book.
