This still is, and probably always will be, a work in progress, but it makes it much easier to have it here open to discussion rather than me posting and reposting whenever someone else asks!

In addition to the list here, also check out the fully updated comics database right here on Seibertron.com, thanks to the hard work of ScottyP!

Hat tip to the original poster, now lost, on the IDW discussion boards, whose template I have reused to build upon for the full list.

The sources cited for that list are "The Transformers Continuum" (which contained more errors than facts), and the hardcover IDW Collection volumes (which attempted to make a "suggested reading order" for the pre-"Death of Optimus Prime" material, but its efforts, while admirable, were questionable at best, confusing at worst).

This is ok... I guess for things from 2011-current (I guess this is supposed to be paired up with Continuum for the "big" picture")?

But as someone who collects all the individual issues, not the TPB's, I'd like to see something all inclusive that covers from 10/2005-current.

On that note, its hard to believe IDW has been publishing Transformers straight for 10 Years. Although I can say the run has had its highs and lows, I can appreciate consistency and longevity of a publisher. Here's to 10 more years.

I hope not. Continuum needs to be ignored more than anything.

Sorry to say, that is one of the things I hate about comics in general. Sure I know IDW only goes back 10 years but... For some of the longer lived DC and Marvel stuff. I understand there are different writers and different perspectives on characters over the decades. But when people start retconning , and rebooting, and ignoring certain things, whether they like them or not, it just kills the fun for me, and the overall sense of continuity.

My opinion- Sure most of Furman's early "tion" series were pretty bland, but "All Hail Megatron" was the single best event to come out of IDW from the past decade. Nothing before or since has even come close. I know I stand alone on this opinion, but I stand by it. For people to just read what's on that chart above, as the "Established" IDW Transformers, is very shortsighted. That's why I appreciate the list I previously linked to on Wikipedia which includes everything.

That's why Continuum needs to be forgotten. It ignored, misremembered, and flat out got wrong so many of the facts of the fiction that it was supposed to be chronicling. And the author admitted that a lot of these things were done on purpose when writing it. It did no justice to any of stories told during the Furman, McCarthy, and Costa eras of the comics.

oh ok, my apologies. I misunderstood. I thought you meant everything "covered" in Continuum should be forgotten. I haven't read it in so long, I cant speak to its accuracy. But it makes sense. It would be hard to chronicle in a single 32 page issue several years of comics. Not saying it couldn't be done, but I can understand not liking it if isn't wasn't done well, or accurately.

For one, it treated Skywatch and Machination as the same organization.

Is Dark Cybertron and Dawn of the Autobots a necessary read to follow MTMTE? I've only begun reading MTMTE (just found out who Minimus Ambus really is (I mean, I already knew, but that's where I'm in the story)) and I love it. How would you guys compare RID to MTMTE? Are they 2 sides to the same general story? Is 1 more fun than the other?

I believe the decision is a personal one. Truly , nothing is "necessary", and I understand the industry as a whole, why they constantly rebrand series is to supposedly provide "jumping on" points, or fresh starts to attract new readers constantly. Still for me personally this doesn't work. I am a completest. If I had not picked up IDW's TF issue zero in October 05', I would not be reading them now.

Thus the reason why I don't read popular Marvel and DC titles. I understand there are points every couple of years made especially for new readers, but I am not going to start reading Amazing Spider-Man unless I can start with Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962). I additionally am aware that there are CD ROMS and online sites that archive all these older comics for little to no cost, but then it just becomes an issue of time, reading 50+ years worth of comics, I just don't have time for, that's why I just try to enjoy the various animated and cinematic incarnations.

Well, you have to start somewhere. I mean, of course it won't be an easy read, but if you want to road all of them, you gotta pick up the 1st issue. Like I'm doing with MTMTE now. I bought all the TPBs released so far, and I'm on volume 5 now. That's a little over halfway through on material that's been going on since 2012. But I'm making progress and catching up. I guess it all depends on whether you deem the entertainment and new knowledge gained to be worth the price in money and time you have to spend. For me, so far it is. MTMTE is awesome. It even made a fan of Ultra Magnus out of me, a character I previously loathed in all incarnations, especially G1.

Dark Cybertron: Yes, but you don't need to actively digest it as much.

Dawn of the Autobots: Not really a thing, just a marketing tagline thrown across all three books at the time.

MTMTE is the character driven, follow-the-breadcrumbs, send a message, and make you feel things kind of book. RiD (or just Transformers as it's now called) is plot driven, more action occurs, and the overall "world" of IDW moves along more briskly. Not that there isn't great character development in it as well, it's just not so heavily focused on it like MTMTE. I find it very, very enjoyable, some months moreso than MTMTE, but not as lasting emotionally.

Some days you want to watch Cowboy Bebop, and others you just want Gundam.

Anyone have any idea what the reading order is of the comics that came with the Combiner Wars toys? There's no numbering printed anywhere in the books that I can find that give me any clue as to their order. :???:

Gets confusing, right? I love that they've included some of these books with the toys but boy, it's kind of a mess what they've ended up doing with it. Must be some weird agreement where there's a cool down so the trades can sell or something. Anyhow, this doesn't answer your question! The below will, which is copied from this forum section's FAQ sticky post. I've included the Generations toy pack-ins from 2013/2014 as well. If you only read the Combiner Wars pack-ins, you're going to be a little lost on some important details - though not majorly, so that choice is yours :)

Generations "Thrilling 30" Toys - Part 1
These can be read before or after the comics listed in "Combiner Wars Toys - Part 1", but should be read before the comics listed in "Generations "Thrilling 30" Toys - Part 2 - Dark Cybertron". Also note that these issues are very spread apart in the overall IDW Transformer timeline (see reading orders above for more information on exactly how far apart they are.)
  1. Orion Pax (Spotlight: Orion Pax)
  2. Thundercracker (Spotlight: Thundercracker)
  3. Megatron (Spotlight: Megatron)
  4. Bumblebee (Spotlight: Bumblebee)
  5. Trailcutter (Spotlight: Trailcutter)
  6. Hoist (Spotlight: Hoist)

Combiner Wars Toys - Part 1
  1. Vortex (Robots in Disguise #8) (Was possibly also planned to be packed in with Skydive in a revision case that may or may not ever come out.)
  2. Brawl (Robots in Disguise #9) (Was possibly also planned to be packed in with Alpha Bravo in a revision case that may or may not ever come out.)
  3. Quickslinger or Blast Off (Robots in Disguise #11) - Was also planned to be packed in with Fireflight; see notes for the two above this one on status of that.
  4. Dragstrip or Swindle (Robots in Disguise #12) - Initial release of Dragstrip did not include the comic, but later wave re-packs did.
  5. Breakdown (Robots in Disguise #13)
  6. Offroad (Robots in Disguise #14)
  7. Air Raid (Robots in Disguise #15)
  8. Dead End or Break-neck (Robots in Disguise #16)

At this point, you can continue on to comics packaged with 2013/2014 Generations toys, or continue along further below in "Combiner Wars Toys - Part 2 which follows the next section.

Generations "Thrilling 30" Toys - Part 2 - Dark Cybertron
  1. Dreadwing (Robots in Disguise #17)
  2. Goldfire (Robots in Disguise #18)
  3. Waspinator (Robots in Disguise #19)
  4. Skids (More Than Meets The Eye #22)
  5. Armada Starscream (Dark Cybertron Chapter 1/#1)
  6. Scoop (Dark Cybertron Chapter 2/More Than Meets The Eye #23)
  7. Skywarp (Dark Cybertron Chapter 3/Robots in Disguise #23)
  8. Mini-con Assault Team (Dark Cybertron Chapter 4/More Than Meets The Eye #24)
  9. Rattrap (Dark Cybertron Chapter 5/Robots in Disguise #24)
  10. Tankor (Dark Cybertron Chapter 6/More Than Meets The Eye #25)
  11. Crosscut (Dark Cybertron Chapter 7/Robots in Disguise #25)
  12. Windblade (Dark Cybertron Chapter 8/More Than Meets The Eye #26)
  13. Nightbeat (Dark Cybertron Chapter 9/Robots in Disguise #26)
  14. Jhiaxus (Dark Cybertron Chapter 10/More Than Meets The Eye #27)
  15. Chromia (Dark Cybertron Chapter 11/Robots in Disguise #27)
  16. Arcee (Dark Cybertron Chapter 12/#Finale)

Combiner Wars - Part 2
  1. Streetwise (Robots in Disguise #33)
  2. Rook (Robots in Disguise #34)
  3. Blades (The Transformers #35) - Not a new series! This is just where Robots in Disguise was re-branded to avoid confusion with the 2015 animated TV series of the same name.
  4. First Aid (The Transformers #36)
  5. Prowl (The Transformers #37)
  6. Sunstreaker (The Transformers #38)
  7. Ironhide (Combiner Wars "Opening Salvo"/The Transformers #39)
  8. Mirage (Combiner Wars "Part 1"/The Transformers: Windblade: Volume 2 #1)
  9. Upcoming Sky Reign/Miscellaneous Autobot Repaints Wave (TBD; at this point expected to contain Combiner Wars Parts 2-5)
  10. SDCC Combiner Hunters set (Combiner Hunters) - Technically not a pack-in, but was distributed at the same convention as these toys initially were, so why not?

Nice to see MTMTE is back on schedule(getting 2 issues out in March) I know it was not IDW's fault but it was still odd, and would have threatened future crossover continuity

Anyway... *If* my math is right (and it may not be) The first Transformer comic in Print in the Month of August 2016 (whether it is TF #56, MTMTE #56 or TAAO #3) should be the overall 300th comic in IDW's G1 continuity (dating back to October 2005). I wonder if they have anything special planned?

Oh, this is great! I have been looking recently for a list like this. I want to continue again collecting the IDW comics.

Thanks a lot!

Weapon: Electro-Sword
List is great.

I stopped following Transformers Closely when my kids started arrivng, so am literally just getting back into it.

Trying to go through this and make a list of which graphic novels are needed as it will be far easier to track them down compared to the individual issues.

My question is are all of these available in novel form (up to the latest novel release) or is there some ill have to track down as individual issues?

Not sure what you mean by novel - but as for collected trade paperbacks, everything up to volumes 8 of MTMTE/TF. The only things not included so far are the Punishment and Redemption one-shots. Hope that helps!
