I picked up Trypticon locally over the weekend because I have no patience or self-control. I dismantled the hips, inspected the whole lot, put them back together, and then stressed the crap out of them - spun them a few dozen full rotations each, back and forth a bunch, rotated from the body with the legs planted, anything I could think of - then took them apart again. Zero change. The green plastic is definitely softer than the rest, but it's still plenty sturdy. It might not be the sky is falling, every Trypticon will die issue that the guy reporting the fix thinks it is.
[Qwan note: ] In fact, is his the only report we've got? I know that a lot of people won't want to even risk breakage and will just clip the springs immediately, so reports will be skewed.
Watch out for the stickers, though. I'm about half way through and there's been several whose numbers may be transposed. Some are definitely the wrong way around, they're odd-shaped ones which only go in one way, and some are wrong according to the instructions and box pics, but might not actually be wrong, it's up to you to decide. It doesn't help that the sticker instructions are awful, possibly the worst I've seen. The stickers are also thin foil, and will basically fuse themselves to the first thing they touch, especially themselves.
If this is true, that'd be great for others who are on the fence after this apparent issue! Admittedly two reports wasn't much to go on in the first place, but better safe than sorry until we had some counter-reports I suppose.
Though I wonder if simply disassembling the hips alone might be the trick? I really wish I remembered which hip I disassembled before breakage, in comparison to the side that broke, so I could add evidence one way or the other; as it stands, we once again just have one or two accounts to work off of. I can only hope we'll get more (hopefully positive
) information once more people start getting him in hand - how are all you guys' Trypticons shipping along, by the way? - but for now I suppose it's another unsolved mystery for Mr. Stack to recount
.
Very true about the stickers too (and their instructions, blech - there's at least one pair of stickers that the instructions clearly tell you to put on the wrong place, but I can't remember which ones they are at this exact moment). I've left the stickers off the eyes on my second copy, partly because I like the look of clear orange plastic as much as the glowy-orangey-gold that the stickers make them, and partly because it's nigh-impossible to get them lined up perfectly so they don't crinkle and end up looking sucky.
