Fender Bender wrote:The entire toy market in Japan is on the decline for two reasons. The first of which, is the Lead Paint scandal at Mattel. This has caused Japanese Toy Companies stock prices to fall dramatically.
The other reason is that the youth population of Japan is severely shrinking. So with fewer children for these companies to market their products to, they are looking at targeting new markets--Adults.
This could very well be the reason that the Encore series has been released from Tomy. It could also explain why Tomy is looking to reissue several rare and obscure characters like Skylynx.
So it looks like this could be good news for collectors, but it could possibly spell the doom for the next generation as what makes a collector is having the toys when we are children to begin with.

Be prepared for more KISS player stuff by the look of things.
I may just move to Japan and have 15 kids, just to help em all out

Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.

The only time I've ever seen a kid buying Transformers was on June 2, when the kid was accompanied by an adult who was grabbing one by one off the shelves (the kid looked bored to slag.)

Tfs as they are now:
12 year old boy to his friend: Eww! You still play with Transformers?! Those are for like, little kids!
Tfs as they might be, if they were targeted towards older kids and teens:
12 year old boy to his friend: Yeah, my big brother has that guy. He's so cool, I'm gonna ask my Mom for my own for Christmas. Dude, the cartoon rocks! He's just so cool, not like those other Transformer shows like they made for kindergarteners. I keep begging my Mom to let me stay up and watch it, I love seeing Prime kick Megatron's big metal butt.

Maybe it's the Northeast or Britain or something, cause down here in Florida TF's are selling full blast. My online sources indicate that the Unicron series has been one of the most popular TF cartoons of recent years.
I say we need to do this true anime style and run both a shonen and a seinen series of the Transformers, perhaps reviving Transtech for the latter. You outlay double, but you potentially double your market.
Damolisher wrote:Yeah, but that's where you live. They don't make the TV shows for adults. If you want Transformers aimed at Adults, there's always the comics. Kids are still loving Transformers here in New Zealand.

Since the Unicron trilogy shows have been the only TF shows in recent years, I won't dispute what you said about them. And where in Florida are TFs selling fast? I live there too but storeworkers in my area all say that they just haven't been getting anything new in a long time and that the warehouses are completely empty of TFs. They don't even have old stock to put up like some stores have been doing.
