But I find the movies did have good characters but they werent in the foreground. In all fairness, Patrick Dempsey is the most complex character in DOTM (I know, I know). He is a man stuck in a deal his father made with the decepticons and truly believes that this is the only way for the human race to survive. I feel of all the actors associated with this franchise, he and Kelsey Grammar come out unscathed.

Yeah, he was actually a fairly well written character. And I did end up finding myself conflicted as to whether I should sympathize for him, so job well done on that part.

So then have we done it? Have we found the top best 5 human characters in all Transformers history?

Honourable mentioned: Sari Sumdac is a great character in her own borderline annoying way. But she can't be on this list because it's a spoiler so just watch the show already!

And hey, you know what I just realized, the objectively best transformers comics (Last Stand of the Wreckers and MTMTE) have 0 humans in them.

Is Meltdown really counted as being a human anymore, what with him being turned into an acid monster?

Plus, there's also all the awesome humans from Masterforce to consider.

And LSOTW had Verity.

Well he shows up in a show and is human at some point, but most importantly, he isn't a giant alien robot, so I think that can make him fair game.

I am assuming Megatron and Dinobot. Anyways, screw that list, the seibertron team is getting ready for the 20th anniversary next year with it's own top beast wars list. It will be the list to end all lists!

By the way, it really is funny how we all agree that Optimus would never be near a top Prime characters list. He isn't a terrible character but just doesnt add anything interesting or leave any sort of meaningful impact. It makes me wonder, if we look at all the main Prime characters (including the humans), would he be dead last?

Why? He didn't have a character, sure he was there, but he didn't have character (which is what plagued most of the cast, and is what this list is focusing on); same goes for predaking. They had bare bones character at best, no development, and frankly, no reason for me as a viewer to get invested in them.

Very true. I'm glad someone finally made some comments about him. At least we may have finally found someone whom Prime would beat!

I think a lot of people might be mistaking having character (i.e. being written interestingly - like the BW cast) with being a character (i.e. starring in a show)

Yes, but they also had to be important within the show. So a bit of both.

I want to start a movement to get the IDW comics to add her into the series, except instead of being a weepy coward she'd be a Transformer-hunting cigar-chewing psychotic nutcase, armed with a police car that transforms into power armour.

DISCLAIMER: I have never read Kiss Players and know all I do about it through TFWiki. I just find the idea of turning a simpering moeblob like Atari into a raging Dredd-expy hilarious.

I probably would have put Smokescreen at the top of this list, followed by Knock Out, Wheeljack, Starscream, and Ratchet in descending order. I think these are the best characters not only for their incredibly fun and interesting personalities, but also their well-played out character arcs. Megatron didn't really receive anything interesting or new from the writers until Predacons Rising, and Arcee's arc didn't tie up the way I think it should have (though she was still a lot of fun in season one). Dreadwing was a great character, and despite his jarring write-out, he still played an integral part into the development of the story. However, I don't think he quite makes the top five.

No arguments on Soundwave, though. He's a badass.

Tend to agree with a lot of this list, but let's be honest, by the second season Starscream went from being the best character on the show, to borderline waspinator.

Soundwave didn't occur to me as one of the best, until I read your reasons, and looking back I can't help but agree.

Knockout was pure awesomeness - he hit the balance of comedy and interesting that starscream missed.

Megatron was really well done, if only the writers had given him (or the decepticons) some clear direction.

Ratchet was great, very much echoed Animated Ratchet, who was awesome, but he got annoying, and I wanted to see him kick a little more ass.

Arcee was cool, but for some reason annoyed me too.

Wheeljack was great, except that it pissed me off he looked like and was named after a G1 counterpart, but was totally different. G1 Wheeljack (and G1 Starscream) still one of the most original characters in pop culture.

Airachnid, I'm surprised hasn't gotten more love - another great Decepticon.

But Bulkhead was my favorite - great components of the animated influence, but fun, not cheesy, and easy to pull for.

The best thing about Prime was the characters (and the fights/animation!), but the writers just didn't do a strong job of tying together good and original over-arching storylines. Doesn't totally take away from the fact that it was an enjoyable show to watch!

For me, I don't pay much mind to her because she didn't impact me as an important character. Integral plot device? Sure. Menacing villain? Hell yeah. But not anyone to get invested in, especially with her more jarring than Dreadwing write-out.

I can't agree with Soundwave, I really don't care for him being all silent and stuff.

Most of the rest is good, but I'd really have tried to make room for Cliffjumper (even if he died right away he was hella awesome) and the Breakdown/Knockout duo. Oh and Ratchet. Man... this is a hard list to keep at five... Most characters on the show were great, a really well done series.
