There's a fan-made bird mode on the CHUG version, plus it wasn't a straight-up repaint, having a remolded head.

As for those who like Octone, thats cool, but man there might have been loads of hate (from myself included) if I would have included it, I was looking online and this is one of the most hated toys of the year.

Haha, yeah, I know those. And I didnt forget them, I just really felt they were worst examples of triple changers than anthing else I could put. They really feel more like added on modes rather than something fully distinct (which is what their goal was anyway). It is cool that they have dedicated parts, but I feel really weird saying that a gorilla on a surfboard is a different alt mode than simply the gorilla.

See, I've heard people complain about this before, but to me it's just a very simplified representation of a tail. His "falcon" mode really looks more like a vulture which usually fly with narrow tails rather than the fanning tails a lot of birds have.
Maybe they should have put some feather patters on the bottom of the truck parts/back of the bot legs like some of the other bird parts?

Thats a fun take on it. Along the same lines, what do you think the giant missile between his legs represents in the bird's anatomy?

Not *that*, in case anyone's wondering: most birds don't have one.
And I think that's a minor goof on Hasbro's part, as the front of the missile doesn't fit exactly in the clasp. Instead, I have the missile as one piece on his back, like Doubleclouder.

Yeah, dont worry, I just wanted to have a picture of multiple triple changers in one image without revealing too much of the list. And I agree, its a terrible toy. I greatly dislike it, especially in plane mode with the middle section being so empty. It feels super cheap too with how thin some plastic parts feel. I will definitely concede that the choices on my list are not the obvious things people may be thinking but the more and more I see of the alternatives shared here in the comments, it seems no one can really agree on what the best triple changers are or even what to include in them. It would have been a tough list for anyone to write, but this discussion is fun

However, Transmetal Waspinator turned into a full jet mode. It's brilliant.

My one issue is I don't think G1 Scorponok should be included as I don't consider base modes as part of the definition of a triple changer. I agree with the comment that G1 Astrotrain and G1 Blitzwing should have each held their own spots on the list with G1 Scorponok excluded.
Looking forward to the next one.

About G1 Astrotrain and Blitzwing, which do you feel is better and why?

however, i think TR octane still deserve to be on the list, replacing shockblast. maybe it is the case with mine not having any noticeable QC issue, but i enjoy him a lot. his robot mode looks really good, tanker mode looks quite spot on, and the jet mode is an improvement from laser optimus prime version, IMO.
also agreed that doubledealer should be on the list, but that is mostly due to my strange personal attraction to his overly-manly-bird mode.

Neither Astrotrain is great. The Titans Return is bland and disappointingly small.
As much as I love my G1 Scorponok, his base mode is terrible.
I would have added Titans Return to the list. He's great in every mode and you can put figures inside him.
G1 Metroplex, Snapdragon, Doubledealer and Springer are nice too. Though Snapdragon's dragon mode isn't perfect, it did scale nicely with G1 Grimlock giving the latter a suitable opponent.

Fortmax's spaceship mode is basically just him lying face-down.
As for Tripticon, his spaceship mode is the base mode with the "arms" tucked in. Tiny winny wings don't hide that fact.
What make a "true" AND good triple changer is when all modes are completely different from one another.

Basically, compare G1 springer to Generations Springer. G1 Springer has two alt modes, but to get to one from the other one you flip the tires around and add/remove the rotor and you're done. They look very similar, just like Trypticon's base mode and spaceship/battlestation mode. G1 blitzwing and astrotrain have similarly simple changes, but they drastically change the profile.

Not if you live in Japan. The box states "Octane" in English, and "Oktone" in Japanese.

The Spaceship mode? No. Just no.
Might as well call all TR Leaders "triple changers".
