What Im saying is Toyworld is more vintage toy accurate.

Fansproject is a unique combination of cartoon accuracy and what the vintage toys could have been if done by todays standards.

gotta agree with nick here. your stance is quite confusing. the toon dinobots and toy dinobots are quite similar, i mean we're not talking ironhide or ratchet here. and TW's are pretty damn faithful to the G1 toys and toon.

To me FP look more FOC than anything i dont really see them as an update to there g1 toys or cartoon , other than being dinobots .

The Dinobots are where "neo" gets thrown a curveball...

"neo" Bumblebee transforms into a Honda and then later into a Camaro.

"neo" Perceptor transforms into a half track.

"neo" Megatron turns into a tank.

"neo" Astrotrain transforms into a bullet train.

And so on...

But then

Fansproject Sludge turns into a Brontosaurus.

Fansproject Cubrar turns into a Triceratops.

Fansproject Volar turns into a Pterodactyl.

What happened to the "neo" alt modes ? I'm seeing G1 alt modes from Fansproject.

"Neo" is such a fan made term that can be left up to interpretation. Both official and 3rd party CHUG figures vary in the level of "neo" they present. One could argue that the classics Starscream mold is hardly "neo" other than a few slight changes to avoid a lawsuit from Lockheed Martin. But isn't it ironic that it came out in the same "neo" line that the other figures got their 80's alt mode "reimagined" ? At the end of the day it all boiled down to kids. Kids think F-15's are cool. Kids don't think VW Bugs are cool. Hasbro didn't invent the term "neo" but they definitely pioneered the concept. And they did it all in the name of selling more toys to kids who wouldn't buy 80's alt modes. That is why we have "neo". It has nothing to do with "reimagining" how the characters would look today. The concept just a pure marketing gimmick. One could even argue that the MP line is "neo" because unlike their vintage counterparts, they are highly articulated and boast more complex transformations.

"Neo" is a fan made term with so many possible interpretations. Unless we can find the fan who created the term and ask him WTF he meant, all interpretations are fair game.

If I was to say what constitutes "neo" for dinobots, I would say either AOE or FOC.

When I think of what's more of a G1 homage, I think both Toyworld and Fansproject fit the bill. But Toy world is a lot more vintage toy accurate with the blocky bodies and shiny chrome. Fansproject is kind of a combination of cartoon and toy accuracy with a touch of "neo". Just a touch like the average Hasbro Generations figure. Not full blown neo like FOC or AOE.

Neo is more than just a change in alt mode; it's the overall look of the figure. The FP Dinobots are fairly original designs that homage the G1 Dinobots rather than being straight-up reproductions of the G1 Dinobot designs (with a few divergences for engineering purposes). Columpio, for example, is very chunky and bulky, with lots of square details, hard angles, ridges and quite exaggerated proportions, with quite large dino-legs (compared to the original design) and that glorious flexy neck. Muddy, on the other hand, more or less has the proportions and silhouette of the G1 cartoon model (which was pretty much identical to the toy except with a lot of the detail removed for ease of animation). His dino mode is quite low to the ground and somewhat rounded, with a large body and fairly small legs. In robot mode the only departure he makes is having the dino legs fold under the "wings". So whilst the better of the 2 looks is of course entirely up to personal preference (I generally prefer the FP versions but I don't think the TW versions look bad at all) there is no doubt that the TW versions are definitely more G1 accurate.

(I must be honest though, I for one consider the G1 Dinobots to be some of the best G1 toys, and I would love to own some, especially Slag or Grimlock.)

IMO, FP, TW, and SK are about as "neo" as each other with just a few centimeters of difference between the two of them. They're all very obvious updates to the old G1 Dinobot design and none of them stray as much as even the first Classics Grimlock did. The only 3rd party design you could say was more it's own thing is the Planet X ones. And by my own more literal definition of "neo G1" they'd count too.

i think fansproject dinos would fit with the prime aesthetic myself. toyworld would be neo g1 cartoon/toys hybrid and shuraking dinos would be g1 toy with more articulation and a combined mode

I'm primarily going with the FP Dinos, however...

I just bought Roar. Two reasons:

1. Snarl being last on FP's list of dinos-to-do annoys me.
2. He will fill the gap and give me a set of five dinobots until if and when FP finishes the job. With Roar being part of a combiner, no doubt that someone will miss out on one of the early figures in the set.

...also he looks pretty good.
