Is it safe to assume that behind the train are the rockets boosters?
The rocket boosters are the front part of the train. Notice the smoke stack right at the rear end of the shuttle:

I thought it was the Hasbro release they were imitating. But this time with a more uniform black train mode.

Do we know how tall this guy is? Would he be smaller than MP-10?

ToyWorld and Chimungmung.com, Has TW Devilstar listed with a 22.5 cm robot height. Which translates into a 8.9 inch robot height. MP-10 has a 9.4 inch robot height.
G1 cartoon Blitzwing and Astrotrain in robot modes were never shown taller than Megatron and Optimus. They were shown a pinch shorter.

Yeah not a good idea to use the cartoon as reference for TF height , we all know the crazy sh*t that went on in the 80's toon .
Best to use the scale charts , your right about Asstrotrain , Blitzwing however is a tiny bit taller than Optimus .

Prefer the Takara toy colors as the vehicle modes are more real world colored accurate.
Never seen a purple locomotive train before or a purple and white Nasa space shuttle.
Well at least now we all know what these guys are trying to pull off and while for many its not what they wanted, for me this has become an instant buy since I realize even the MP one day wont do this.

I am not sold on the looks either, I really like the way the DX9 Chigurh looks. The shuttle mode looks a more modern and the steam loco mode looks really clean. IF it ends up actually being a quality figure I will be looking into buying that. That and it would scale better with MPs.

same here. ill be waiting for his eventual grey/purple glory.Counterpunch wrote:I want this, but I'm worried they will do a revised color version six months later and like an idiot, I'll buy it too.
something might add, between both trains, you dont necessarily have to display him with MP's. im toying around with the idea of keeping him in alt mode and displaying him classics style.

I really want to know what year this scale chart was drawn. So many fans swear by it. If it was actually used in the 80s by the sunbow artists for scale reference then I can respect it. But if it was drawn years later by hasbro/takara just to settle fan arguments then I think its debatable. If I was an original sunbow artist, I wouldnt take kindly to someone else trying to interpret my artwork choices without consulting me for my opinions.

Tsutsukakushi wrote:Haven't a clue where this scale chart a few replies above came from. Guessing it's some unofficial scale chart that was created by some know it all fan. That might have been put in one of those fan made toy catalogs books.
Looking at the scale chart, It's already got some wrong scale references in it. As the scale chart shows Optimus as being half the height of Devastator. In the G1 Cartoon, Devastators hand is the size of optimus. Also in the G1 Cartoon Omega is not a few heads taller than Devastator, they are the same height
More scale chart errors. In the G1 cartoon, Optimus is a few heads taller than Inferno, Grapple and Hoist. Not only a head taller, like this scale chart above suggest.
In the G1 cartoon i wouldn't be surprised to see bumblebee head-butting the sh*t out of devastator .
I don't see whats so funny about the scale charts be it from sunbow or just made up either way it scales all the characters out fairly decent and does a much better job than the cartoon .
Personally i don't have time to press pause and whip out a tape measure to see how often character stay the same height .

Maybe I misread, but do you mean you preffer the Hasbro classics astrotrain over this one?

Thanks for the pics.
Noticed and like the new name change. Speculating Evila is less harsh than using Devil.
Love the Box art style and pics. TW shines at creating breath taking pretty boxes.
Think this, Evila, is on the same level of must have that UT Mania King is.

I don't know that I'd go that far. This is probably a case of liking what I already have. I am very happy with Classics Astrotrain. I like this one. I don't know that I like this one enough more to get it and replace my already owned Hasbro one.
If I didn't already have Classics Astrotrain and I was trying to choose between the two...I don't honestly know which way I'd go. This looks a lot better than I thought it would.
Plus, I do tend to prefer to go with Has-Tak releases in my collection, unless a 3P is just so much more awesome. *coughBrainstormcough*
I should take something for my cold....
