I agree that the robot mode is very well done. However, the cannon does detract from it, the front half is too short and the back half shouldn't look like a cylinder but more like a funnel. The tank mode is also acceptable, if far from perfect.Big Grim wrote:Megatron is superb. Engineering genius. Turret is a bit crap in tank mode and I ain't sold on the fusion cannon but neither detracts from that glorious robot mode at all.

I am amused that for the Skybound Optimus, they got the Fusion Cannon perfect. But not for Megatron.
Yeah, the tank is fine. Main hull is very good. Turret, not so much.

I'm aware, but, until this recent change of removing the greebling, that was largely semantics.
Flatline, however, is. As are the four Aerialbots. All mentioned in my post that started this particular conversation.

I'm too lazy to dig up the PotP thread.
So, regarding the PotP Titan Predaking reissue, is it worth getting, or it will be pointless because new molds à la SS86 Devastator will come out soon?

Could have posted in the news topic.
Personally, I think it was a poor choice to reissue. We know they'll be remaking him in the future plus there's the Adamas Machina version which is basically a Generation figure (large team leader and smaller limb bots) at a Masterpiece price point so there's other options. I think with Predaking and Nemesis a pencil pusher was looking at the current eBay prices rather than thinking ahead. And then to set both to release in the same time frame was really strange.

Looks like it was a fairly good decision on the pencil pusher, both Predaking and Nemesis are currently sold out on Pulse. I got my Predacons back when it first released and it is a great combiner, when combined. The individual figures are hit and miss, but overall awesome to me. I never have to buy the Predacons again.

First Look at Selects G2 Swoop and Sludge Set
- Motto: "Spellcheck's antithesis."
- Weapon: Saw-Edged Pincer
Following up the recent Selects G2 set of Snarl and Slug, we have our first look at the second set consisting of G2 Swoop and Sludge. Both figures are based on figures unreleased in the original G2 line similar to the yellow G2 Grimlock we got in the Walmart Toxitron capsule line. Of particular note, Swoop now features a new head based on the original toy. As per usual these Selects figures will be made available through fan channels, though pre-orders release date haven't been announced as of yet. More info as we get it!

The G2 line didn't set the world on fire so Hasbro cut its losses.

Yeah. G2 struggled because it couldn't compete against the new hotness of the time, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.chuckdawg1999 wrote:megatran wrote:Silly question. Why wasn't the og G2 of these toys ever released back in the day?

I don't even think it's that. Transformers lasted WAY longer than most lines do, people were ready to move on.

People had already moved on, G2 was supposed to be the comeback. But these weren't making the cut after the brand moved to doing new molds instead of bringing back old ones.

Transformers did die for a couple of years after 1990 in the US, with G2 fully starting up in 1993.chuckdawg1999 wrote:I don't even think it's that. Transformers lasted WAY longer than most lines do, people were ready to move on.
G2 was started as an attempt to revitalize the brand after its post-1990 US absence, but it couldn't cut the muster after just two years, ending prematurely in 1995, with the brand being given to Kenner to try something new with it. Had Kenner not reinvented it from the ground up as Beast Wars, the Transformers brand would have simply been put out to pasture.

Beast Wars was Kenner's idea?
Damn!
When the G1 nostalgia becomes too stale, maybe Hasbro should commission another company to work on Transformers again.
They should look into South Korea. Lately, they are releasing bangers.

Hasbro had acquired Kenner by then, so Kenner was (and currently still is) just a subsidiary of Hasbro instead of a separate company.-Kanrabat- wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Transformers did die for a couple of years after 1990 in the US, with G2 fully starting up in 1993.chuckdawg1999 wrote:I don't even think it's that. Hasbro developed Beast Wars, they slapped the Kenner name on the packaging in case the line failed. That way they wouldn't get the stink on them.
