Blitzwing turns into a tank and a jet so they call him Blitzwing because a tank is known to do blitz type of attacks, and the wing is fairly obvious because he turns into a jet with wings. Astrotrain makes sense because he turns into a space shuttle, hence the Astro part of the name and a train, hence the train. What's a good name for Octane that would pertain to his tanker truck and his jet whether it's a cargo plane like Tankor is or another kind of plane. Next would be to somehow come up with newer names of Sandstorm, Broadside, and Springer that had to do with their vehicles.

Octane was so called because of the name of the jet fuel that was used(octane)
Broadside because one of his sides is broad....well....the flat top part
Sandstorm because one of his forms is a dune buggy
Springer's a weird one? coz nothing in his name suggests his various forms
Powerglide...well...he's a jet...which is under power
Rewind....something you can do with a cassette
Eject...something else you can do with a cassette
Reflector...well...he's a camera that prob has reflecting lenses
Whirl....well...his blades whirl round
Thrust...something a jet has
