I'm kinda disappointed that they're rereleasing the original Primal tooling rather than the 10th anniversary version. It'd have been an instant-buy then.

I might get Cheetor. The Kingdom version just isn't doing it for me. He just feels...off.

I think it's an awesome design. Have the leader turn into a T Rex is as cool as it can get. And I like the design. If we are gonna talk about gimmicks hampering toys, I feel that's the case with Primal. Really hate not being able to move his arms freely without hearing the gears clicking in miscontent.

Oh that’s sad I didn’t know about that, I found Ravage on eBay a few years ago and it’s very cool too bad other people can’t experience it

And I see the missing red on OP’s chest now too I agree that looks strange. They’ve been posting promo pictures for a while now that don’t reflect the final figure so I hope that gets updated. (Look at Unicron recently and masterpiece OP bumblebee movie with the blue windows, or is it grey windows? Hard to tell yet)

Although it's not until today that I realized why they must have had it silver/grey at first. Both Megatron and Optimus are design to have headsculpts invoking their G1 namesakes, and coloured appropriately too.

Anyways, the red is on the show model, so it should have been there. And I also realized that the red is absent on the Kingdom toy's chest.

Come on Hasbro, what do you have against red on chests?!

I really wanted Megatrron when he was out originally, but now, I just feel these look too clunky. I don’t own any S1 toys, and mostly have S2 & S3 toys so I may have a bias. It’s cool that they’re bringing them out again though.

These reissues could have not been totally redundant for me (i.e. could have included transmetal cheetor and rattrap, or could have had a different assortment of characters/price points) but they are.

I'm not sure if a $20 flip-changing basic with a better sculpted and articulated alternative at half the price is better or worse than the predicted $50, voyager-sized and under-articulated transmetal megas which would have been those designs' only representations in this decade. At least as a generations (rather than vintage) collector I have no temptation whatsoever to buy this overpriced figure. I'm sure the last couple sentences could be phrased more clearly but if you're reading this post you probably know what I mean.

Cheetor/tigatron is awesome I would recommend the original to everybody, dinosaur megs is odd because he’s actually very articulated but his backpack and leg cannons and his arms make him hard to stand up. But I agree about dinobot, his price online is bad, we need another reissue of him

I see a lot of comments about sadness due to the lack of transmetals, which I also feel, but I can't help but wonder if these sell well would Hasbro move forward to season 2 with both transmetals and fuzor rereleases? They don't seem to be slowing down the nostalgia train to Walmart, which the G1 and Retro Headmaster releases. And yes, the Retro Headmasters are not the G1 originals but it is still packaged in a way to hit that nostalgia button like Stimpy hits the red button.

In the original toy, Primal's red is like inside the part rather than on its surface, right? Doesn't the very limited red on the Kingdom toy actually match the show? I hadn't looked at it before now, and it's just ... weird.

To be fair, there was also the 2014 reissue Takara put out for their Legends line, which used the retooling of the Reborn/10th Anniversary version.

Missed that one, but to be honest, the 1oth anniversary reissue doesn't really interest me anymore. I have the MP which is the best most show accurate incarnation. I'm planning on getting the Kingdom version and this one is more faithfull to the original, even if it's sadly omitting paint apps.

Gotta say, the more I look at the Megatron reissue the more I dislike it. I can kinda understand the purple instead of the grayish blue of the original, but it looks so ugly and cheap without the paint apps. I mean that toy is already kinda lame with not having actual hands, so removing the paint just makes it look bland.

Actually I think that's inverted from the cartoon model? The recessed black rings should be red, and the crossbars that are red should not be. It's still weird, where the paint is designed to be on the inside rather than the outer surface.

I'm comparing to this show image from the wiki, they arguably could have painted the outer ring.


My personal perspective is that this is all good enough, I don't have a standard of perfection. My response to pretty much every modern release is that I love it. And if tiny edits are appropriate, that's why gundam markers and little bottles of paint exist.

I never got the original Ultra sized Megatron and Primal. I got the TM's and TMII of Megs, and OpOp.

However, in my collection I had the BWII 2 pack of Galvatron and LioConvoy, as well as the 2-pack of Big Convoy and Magmatron. It was always my intention to get the Takara 2 pack of "Convoy" and Megatron from BW, to complete the trifecta, but sadly when I sold my entire original collection in 2007, that idea was scrapped.

Much like Transformers Prime, BW was a show that I loved, and I did have a few toys, but that's basically back when I was not so focused on what I wanted to collect. My 2nd favorite character in the entire series (Tigatron), is getting a Kingdom Voyager later this year, but even that I doubt I'll get, and while these retro toys look neat, the nostalgia is more for the show, which I have on DVD and can watch whenever I please. Even if they reissued Magnaboss and Tripredacus (which why would they, they were never in the show, unless you count the Tripredacus council which was never shown in that toy form on screen). I doubt I would get them.

But I hope they do sell well, it will be interesting to see if any more reissues to come, and what they will be.

*On a side note/OT, I did feel some genuine joy this past week in the toy aisle. I saw a MOTU retro style Roboto at Target, as he was one of my favorite of the whole line growing up. For a fraction of a second, I really wanted to get it, the I thought, I'd have to get them all, but I have no room to start another collection.

I laugh at his for so many reasons. Firstly, excellent Blade Runner reference. Secondly, this reminds me of all the crazy times they do this in procedural shows where they zoom in some security footage and enhance. This aint a vector graphic!

And yeah, I see the red, I definitely missed it. Ok I guess it's there afterall, just not prominent due to inversion from cartoon pallet.

I'll go back to my earlier comment though and say that the unpainted chest on this reissue looks bad and cheap.

The chest on the original Primal was one of its weak points. Even though it did have red paint inside the big gaping hole.

Even the Telemocha version I own did not do it justice.

It was only the 10th Anniversary Reborn set that gave the original mold the screen accurate chest.
