You know, the look of the back actually doesn't bother me as much as it did initially... Im not sure what I expected; to have a bunch of exposed "stuff" & bot parts probably wouldve been even less attractive. This kinda adds the look of a little bulk, almost like a "protective layer".
I'm getting more & more excited about this.

Dunno about an MP display, but some 3rd Party upgrades in general would make Devastator go from good to epic, generally.
See - Scrapper's swivel arms are definitely getting replaced!

I could care less about scale and the back. He's gonna be bigger than my combiners, and that's all I need. Can't wait to get him !!

who cares about scale? G1 transformers never really use it anyway it might work for some things and not others when it comes down to it it doesn't really matter with size shifting

Wow! His backpack actually works! It doesn't look junky!
Oh yeah, and ANKLE TILTS!

I'm kinda on the fence about his knee articulation though, his knees are quite far up his legs, kinda reminds me of Lord Business' giant boots for some reason lol.

See, I wasn't sure if the ankle tilt was new information or not (personally I didn't notice until that pic either) but it made me think. All the poor articulation of the individual bots obviously was in sacrifice to the combined Devastator. And I know that's not a new notion, but its just becoming more and more clear (to me anyways).Silly wrote:Wow! His backpack actually works! It doesn't look junky!

Yeah and Scrapper, doesn't have elbow articulation because he has to make a solid heel for Devastator, which I am completely fine with.

The individual bots look bloody fantastic and I think have more articulation than people were expecting. Yeah, Scrapper has no elbows, but as I said from the start, and looking at him from behind, it's purely for stability issues.
Honestly, I think the designers have done a fantastic job. Combined mode is awesome, and the individual bots look great as well.

One thing that looks aweful on this Devy is the way the Boncrusher/Scavenger treads hang down under his armpits like weird tumors. The G1 vintage toy had them raised high to form tall shoulders. And in the cartoon they were always centered or hidden quite well..

The only articulation missing on the individual bots is Scrapper's elbows. Other than that Hook and Mixmaster have oddly proportioned arms, but for Generations figures that do what they do they indeed look awesome. Scrapper's elbows are probably a mix of stability vs parts cost. Stable ratcheted elbows with a lock system would solve the stability for example, but for a retail generations release that would be nixed by Hasbro for cost reasons.
To a degree, they look like simplified MP figures. Knowing Hasui designed these makes me believe they essentially are.
It's a shame production costs prevent us from getting hefty, solid figures for a nice price. CW leaders costing £50 when back in the day you could get Cybertron OP for £30-£40 is a crying shame when you think he is heavy, detailed, plenty of play value and combining options and carries electronics whilst CW leaders are hollow and just feel (and look) cheaper.
This is still an accomplishment though. Anyone with any gripes on this Devy should bemoan cost issues, not the design. The design in this whole package is awesome!

One thing I haven't seen in pictures is where the lower arms and hands go when they're in individual modes. Kibble to be set aside? (That's how I prefer my gestalts)

The Toy Fair pics showed the indy bots wielding them as blasters. So to answer your question... yes, kibble, but with a function.Burn wrote:One thing I haven't seen in pictures is where the lower arms and hands go when they're in individual modes.
