Personally, I think a lot of qualms on this might be silenced once Reprolabels gets their hands on designing a sticker upgrade set for missing details.

The monitor pic doesn't help it look bigger, lets see it alongside Metroplex and Fort Max. I think it's great but I never thought Devastator was meant to be that much bigger than the other combiners.

The fact that there's a pretty decent amount of hate for Devastator just means that it'll be just as difficult to find as if everyone loved it. The way I see it, this is going to be an impulse buy. If you ever see it you'll have to pick it up right then and there or run the risk of never finding it again. Especially nowadays with so many scalpers and such shoddy stocking from stores.

Yeah...I know. I tell myself that in hopes of actually finding one on the shelves. And yeah, if I do find him in the wild (I know I wont) I will be stiff-arming kids out the way to the checkout.

Glad that I can get a Devastator for less than $500! While he may have his 'cons (giggle) he still looks pretty cool, hopefully he's got good articulation in combined form. I honestly am not angry about the lack of articulation in the individual bots, they look fine and I'll likely have him displayed in combined mode most of the time, if I get him.

Oh see my bad. So that would mean that these two below are obviously way better figures right?

Why are people SO worked up about this? I mean, c'mon, the purpose of them is to combine, and plus, who even plans on displaying Devastator in individual robot modes? :???:

The box says "Devastator." I'm buyin me a Devastator and he will displayed as such. Bending elbows for individual constructicons are a minor complaint. The final proportions (for a combiner figure no less), the poseability, a proper head sculpt, the snappy colors and good god that ridiculous size! What am I saying?! Continue the hate parade so there's more for me!

I completely agree and hope that those who say they wont buy him stick to their word. But most probably, I think most of the hate will end up being hypocrisy and he will be both more expensive and harder to find than Metroplex in one year following his release respectively.

Why all the 'oh pfft'-ing?

I can't speak for everyone but I'll tell you why I won't be getting it. I was excited when I first saw this with Klaus because I thought this would be the last Devy I'd ever have to buy- thinking that Hasbro had totally nailed it and this would be for Devy what MP-13 is for Soundwave, and it's not by a long shot. It looks cheap, God knows what is going on with that Mixmaster foot, the lack of articulation... I think this breaks my back on Hasbro purchases. I can't bring myself to buy 3rd party on principle, but TT gets my money from here on out. I'll pay the extra money to get thicker plastic, better paint apps and even some die cast here and there. If any of you want this, there's one more that won't be purchased out there for you. Good luck and good hunting.

Another complaint about the "Mixmaster foot". they gave Mixmaster a "reverse" cement truck mode. the drum motor is in the back and the drum itself is angled the opposite way of the more traditional trucks. the "foot" is the drum's motor housing, and the front of the truck is what is pegging in at the knee. why is this hard to figure out??

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate the time you took to give us this response. It is a nice and honest insight into the reasons why this figure may not be the wish come true that it seems to represent. Respect!

It's not hard to figure out what they did, but it is hard to figure out why- it looks cheap, it ruins Mixmaster's aesthetic and it makes Devy look like he has a peg leg. Why is that so hard to figure out?

Other Devastators?
G1 had lots of flaws. It wouldn't hold together well - Hook and Long Haul in particular kept pulling apart at the lightest touch. Scrapper's shovel/foot kept bending forward, tipping Devastator over unless you balanced him just right. LOTS of partsforming - hands, forearms, head, hands..
Power Core Combiners: Ugh. One actual Transformer deluxe sized, and then four plug-in non-transforming 'drones' for limbs. It wasn't Devastator at all, and they didn't even bother naming him after his G1 likeness.
ROTF Movie: It was Bayverse, and thus fettered by all the bad writing and conceptualization that comes with any and all of Bay's movies. With him it's always, 'It COULD have been great - BUT...'

The CW Titan version seems light years beyond any of the above.

hasbro did nail it! since the original g1 toy, this is more show accurate then that too
you people gripe at anything slightly off about show accuracy or articulation and just because its Hasbro its cheap B.S. your right about one thing you dont like then dont buy it! go spend twice as much or more for a minimal variation TT version =;

...You do realize the ONLY change between the TakaraTomy and Hasbro versions of the toys are the paint apps, right? TakaraTomy and Hasbro Transformers figures are literally made in the same factories, with the same equipment. Any difference in quality between the Hasbro and TakaraTomy versions of a toy are due to the TakaraTomy versions often coming out later, thus giving them time to make minor fixes. When Hasbro and TT release toys at the same time, they are the exact same product, aside from paint apps. Sorry to burst your little bubble of pretention and imagined superiority, but TakaraTomy doesn't magically make the toys better, or add die-cast (that myth is incredibly stupid), they just have slightly better paint apps and better stock photography.

Well, I never said I was buying an MP devy this year, or in 5 years, or whenever, just that I'm not dropping the $150 on this. You must be one of the hasbro designers who worked on this in order to be so personally offended about my opinions and decision not to buy.

Man. I don't get the hate. I look at that and think "what an awesome transformer toy from the company that makes transformers. Finally a new version of the guy I want".

I don't think people should be comparing third party to official designs. It's kinda like buying KO MPs instead of the real one.

It's obvious that Hasbro turns a blind eye but it could be worse. They could exercise their LEGAL right and we wouldn't have third party toys or they'd stop making toys clearly MEANT for collectors.
I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.

Good luck and good hunting.

...You do realize the ONLY change between the TakaraTomy and Hasbro versions of the toys are the paint apps, right?

You DO realize I was talking about waiting for an MP version, right? I'm not talking about getting the same mold. And yes, MPs do have better plastic, die cast parts, everything I mentioned. As far as my 'little bubble of pretension and imagined superiority', wow. I have a dissenting opinion about TOYS and some of you guys are acting like I peed in your frosted flakes. If there's some kickback program that I'm not aware of where you get paid to defend everything Hasbro makes to the death, I guess somebody's getting their money's worth. Again, the question I was responding to was to why some people didn't like it. I gave an honest answer to that question but I guess I should have just gone straight to name calling. Excellent strategy, bro. You'll make the debate team next year, and mommy will make you some cookies.

Mixmaster's change into an industrial cement mixer came about both to modernize him and to bring him into better scale with Long Haul's gigantic "mining dump truck" altmode.

That is really weird considering RotF Mixmaster.
Was ROTF Long Haul also a mining dump truck?

Or, it could have been a case where it was okay since ROTF Mixmaster only formed Devastator's head, which is a much smaller body part than a leg.

Yes. yes, he was...

[Edit] And having owned the legends movie Devastator, it suffered from all sorts of scale issues that were well hidden in the movie....

he said scale

I'll happily stick with my G1 Devy. I'll have to at least see a review before i consider it.

You cannot reasonably expect Masterpiece quality from a Generations toy. Yes, it is cheap. It's an 18 inch six part transforming robot toy for only $150. It's six voyagers, with the added complication of having to support the size and weight of a giant toy. They were able to give the combined form a reasonable amount of articulation and a sturdy stature, and as a tradeoff they had to minimize the articulation and complexity of the component robots to keep the product in a price range that would be palatable to retailers and, by extension, their customers. They're targeting not only adult collectors, but also parents buying this for their children, and those parents who are not willing to throw any amount of money away on toys are not going to buy this if it costs the $200 or $300 it would take to get the perfect G1 update with detailed paint apps and high articulation that people are clamoring for.
