Here is my Sky Reign. I bought my favourite 4 of the 8 autobot limbs. This makes him my 7th full combiner from Combiner Wars. While those are all retools and redecos, the fact that the torso is new makes this seem very much like a new and different combiner.

I'm pretty sure the same molds aren't commonly used this many times, am I right? How come it's with this line that they milk out all the molds? Scramble city purposes?

I'd probably say because... combiners are pretty damn hard. The deluxe limbs all have to be the exact same size in leg mode and arm mode as each other with absolutely no variance, and getting to that point can be quite the hard task. The voyager torsos can vary, they don't have anything they need to be in balance with; just as long as they have clearance for the arms and legs.
It's a sacrifice I'm personally okay with, especially considering how Superion and Menasor are just a lot of planes and a lot of cars anyway. It's one of those things where you kind of like, acknowledge it's a thing and acknowledge there's no way to avoid being a thing, but it's still pretty annoying.

For Hasbro, they are the same terms, but they only use retool. I have no clue what other fans may intepret them as but they should be the same.

Also, while the same molds werent used as often before, the egineering on most G1 scramble city bots was copied from one to the next. Every single G1 aerialbot has the exact same transformation. This is just a modernised version of that.

Also, there are lines worse than combner wars for the agregious use of redecos, like early G2, which was almost all redecos. http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... iew/18937/

About 400 pages or so ago ( ) we discussed Hasbro information that in order to sell the CW line to the higher-ups at Hasbro (it was seen as a big risk) tooling costs had to be minimized. So, the plan all along was to design these with minor tooling variations, different heads, and different paint to represent various characters. Without all of this mold sharing, we probably would never have seen the CW line. (This is a very brief summary of the info, but I think it answers your question.)

Okay, for this one, you only need to go back a page or two (maybe three) to see the discussion on repaint versus retool (and pretool!) So I won't summarize that one.

Well since it is page 700 I figure it was time to update the chart of CW mold uses, thanks to all those that worked hard before me. Now this chart has some exceptions. 1. I did not include the constructicons as they are unique. 2. I did not include Liokaiser or TFSS 5.0 because we do not yet fully know all the details of their release. 3. I included wreck-gar and some BC Deluxes, while they do not have a design by Hasbro to go with a specific combiner, they still share the Combiner design. 4. This only includes CW, not UW. Beyond that, if I have made any errors or anyone sees any additions that need to be made please let me know. Thank you.

And frankly, if we dont count takara, then we shouldnt count Fun Pub either. Its also an independent company releasing Transformers toys through a license (like Takara). What they do is independent of Hasbro and their toys must be redecos/retools by contract. So them reusing molds is all they can do and its all they have ever done.

I get what you are saying. I guess we can change the basis of this chart then, all releases intended for North American releases, or English speaking TF fans? I know you can argue that TFSS is open to all fans WW, but their releases are meant mostly for American comic book fans. I do plan on adding UW at some point, just don't have the time at the moment.

Also adding UW can get *complicated*. I'd say toy-for-toy UW Superion and CW Superion (and using Quickslinger instead of Alpha Bravo)are exactly the same aside from paint apps. But then you have things like... Blastoff which are clearly 2 different molds. But then you have Vortex, who is basically the same in both, but has some obvious differences (4 blades etc...) I haven't quite worked out all the details of how I'm going to add UW, but I'll try to as soon as I can work it all out in my head

You could just do one lump post with photos featuring all bots and modes. I would suggest using an online photo hosting site.
