In at least the last ten to fifteen years I've yet to come across a single instance of DiBonaventura opening his mouth that didn't spark a huge headache. Every time he talks it ruins something. Every time.

You can now put the Gi Joe X Transformers film in the development hell category. While it had some momentum with Chris Hemsworth joining the project and a writer attached, the departure of Caple Jr as director has brought the plans back to square one. We know this from a recent interview with Lorenzo di Bonaventura who is spearheading this film's development.

This interview is from Screen rant who he said this to:

Live-action we are going to deliver a G.I. Joe crossover. I hesitate using the word crossover because I think people think different things about what that means. For me, what it means is the Joes are going to be in the Transformers world and be present. I think every movie is sort of a balancing act of "How much do you have this? And in this movie, how funny can we be? How serious? How do you cross that line? How do you hide the villain?" All those sort of balancing things that you're doing. We're still in the early process, in a way, of trying to figure out the balance.

Sounds like they only have the concept of a plan as of now. While this is more of a nothing burger story, what we can gather from this is that the film is nowhere close to being filmed as they don't even have any major plot details hashed out for it yet. So anyone looking forward to this film should be very very patient.

On another subject the TFOne Blokees look Great!

Before thinking about making a X-Over movie, they should do ONE great pure Joe movie.
Something that would have a good balance between the campyness of Sunbow, and the more "serious" tones of the latest generations.

Sad, sad garbage. They could have removed the Joe name and it would have been just nameless generic trash. That include Snake Eye.

Given the (mostly) cursed cross-over history between the two franchises, I am content with it being the film equivalent of vaporware. Especially if di Bonaventura and co. are anywhere near it.

Paramount had it’s annual Cinemacon panel today where they talked about upcoming films. While a lot of media outlets are reporting that Paramount has Transformers films in development, the lack of any precision means something very different for us fans who have followed the brand more closely. The last news we had from a few Cinemacons ago was that they were still working on the G.I. Joe Transformers crossover film. However, at the 2026 cinema con, there has been absolutely no word on that, it is not part if their slate.

Instead, they simply mentioned Transformers as a franchise among all their other franchises which movies in development. This lack of any detail instead of mentioning the GI Joe crossover film means that they have most probably gone back to the drawing board.

With Cinema Con already talking about films coming out in the next two years, the absence of any concrete detail here for the Transformers brand means that we will not be getting a new film for a good while. The only thing we knew was that Lorenzo de Bonaventure’s contract has been had been renewed with Paramount.

Also, with animated movies taking half a decade to produce, the fact that there is not even a hint of a sequel to Transformers One confirms the fact that Paramount is currently not continuing in that direction theatrically. While the film was liked by fans, very few families went to go see it and the film failed to find an audience at every single point. As a real example, when it was new on Paramount+, more people chose to watch the movie Bad Santa instead.

While this may look like a big nothing burger of news, it does at least let us know that there will not be a new Transformers movie coming out in the next couple of years and we now have further evidence that the G.I. Joe crossover has probably been canned.
