I gotta tell ya, people seem to have a huge misunderstanding as to how Pawn Shop operate. There are a lot of people saying how these people as well as other pawn shops "rip off" their clientele. The guys on that show have to explain the pawning process to at least one person every week, and get them to understand they are in the business to buy things in order to resell them for a profit. They are not the end user-they are the same as any other retailer. They buy cheap from a willing seller, and then they resell the items with a mark-up to a willing buyer.

This is called wholesale.

Also, if a price is negotiated, and a seller lets an item go for a price that is MUTUALLY AGREED UPON, then the seller has no one to gripe at but himself.

Definitely looks like a good sized collection especially if they're going out to the guy's (or gal's) place to look it over. Lots of duplicates, and Chumley seems impressed ("Holy mother of Transformers"). I agree with one of the other posters about going to Vegas for a G1 infusion...if I had the money for such a trip.

In defense of the pawn shop, like others said they are in the business to make money so obviously the seller isn't going to get the full value. He probably is in a position where he needs as much cash as he can get as quick as he legally can and let's face it, a reseller buying it all would definitely be quicker than arranging deals with multiple (possibly hundreds) of collectors to get the full value. A lot of us have either been in that position or will be soon, and those who manage to get through life being able to take their collection to the grave (as I had originally planned) are assuredly the lucky ones. I still cry myself to sleep over having to sell my G1 Terrorcons and Pretender Monsters a few years back.

sometimes they do the ol'pig n a poke and pay too much. Sometime you rip yourselves off on ebay! This is my top dvr'd show. (followed by Twilight Zone! :D ) I was thinking a collection sized like the pezz dispenser episode but man 1000 Transformers They may pay some but I bet they pay 1000 bucks for all them. or offer less. awww... def wouldn't sell to Pawn shop.

Also how many times in Pawn Stars could they buy an item for 200 bucks and end up paying 3000 for it after expert verfies the item!!! I think what they show is a pretty fair and honest pawn shop. At least Rick n Old Man. Chum n Big Hoss diff. story.

The offer is on the table they can decline so this is Capatlism...don't complain ;)

The pawn shop loses sometimes on sales too. Just tonight watching they bought a civil war horn and it was fake, not civil war era, but still old. Then they bought a woodstock contract, not authentic, actually a reproduction.
Those people got pretty good deals for them, weren't scammers or anything either, they thought it was as real as the pawn shop did.
If you're looking to make top dollar on an item, you don't go to a pawn shop. If you don't know this, well, sorry for you then.

Well, the general idea of the pawn is that once the shop owner figures out what they're worth, they'll reach a lower, agreeable price so the shop owner can sell them again, this time for what they're worth. Yes, they are a bit greedy, but that's what the seller gets. Another thing is that once the expert comes in and gives the shop owner the amount of money they're worth, that's the first thing the seller wants. They don't realize the shop owner usually sells them again, so they are denied their original (And most of the time, unrealistic) price. However, never look a gift horse in the mouth. ;)

EDIT: Oops, someone already posted something like this. Oh well.

No sale of the collection(lowest he'd let it go for was $18K, Rick offered max $10K).

Was valued at $20K if pieced out according to the Toy store and museum owner they brought in.

There goes my plan to send my friend who lives in Vegas to see if he had any Beastbox and Squawktalks...

That is an impressive collection and I'm glad he didn't take Rick's offer.

If I owned it and had a kid on the way, I'd sell all the extras and keep 1 of each. Really, who needs that many duplicates in a single collection? Some of the profits obtained from selling the extras could go towards buying some nice display cases to get them off the floor and make room for the kid. :D

From the looks of the collection overall, he probably had two or three  .

But yeah, I don't quite see the point of having so many multiples, but that was a very impressive collection. Lot of Mint stuff.

Seriously, he had like five Scorponoks and at least three Omega Supreme's, three or more Skylynx's, couple Fort Max's, maybe four Power Master Ops...

I agree with Fender Bender, keep one of each(in the best condition obviously), and sell the rest. He could proably make $10,000 at least and still have a good collection.

I couldn't agree more. I understand wanting to have a nice big collection, but I don't get why he had 4 or 5 of each. Guess it doesn't hurt for resale though. Really neat to see though ty for posting Wheeljack35 :D

Thirded!

My biggest question is why did Guy chose a pawn shop over eBay? I am sure he could get his asking price if he sold things individually....With so many duplicates, he could sell 80% of them and still have a sizable amount to pass on as heirlooms to his kids!
