To be fair, we don't know how strong this universe's Starscream is.
It could also be that those stronger (like potentially Soundwave) are not interested in being the one in charge.

Just watched the movie today, and I really enjoyed it. Seeing D-16 gradually becoming Megatron was really compelling, and Orion Pax becoming Optimus Prime was a real treat.

Yay! I finally got to see it* in the UK!
... just in time for everyone to have said what they needed to say about it and move on. Dammit.
Ah well. It was very, very good - felt at times more like an extended pilot of a really good TV series than a standalone movie. There will be much freeze-framing when I get hold of the BR release. Pretty sure I spotted my girl in the background at one point!
More than half-empty cinema, unfortunately, but there were quite a good proportion of young kids watching in family groups and they seemed to be enjoying it, so that's good too.
* And sat in row D, seat 16 'cos I'm a huge frickin' dork.

Sometimes merchandise can sum up the film it has spawned from. Take for example this bag of chips.
Trying to sell nostalgia whilst omitting the instant recognisable shapes, forms or characters. Having a flavor that is not suitable for any target audience, lost in the range of options that are available and not being able to compete to the original taste. Ultimately resulting in just a thing that exists.
:p
Seriously though, these are way stronger in taste that what I was expecting and some poor child is going to need milk and alchasetzler after these.

Re: Transformers One: Animated Prequel Movie Thread
It really sucks this movie is doing so damn bad. I loved it, I'm a bit iffy in the visual design of the robots and the level of detail chosen but the story and the movie was great.
I normally go to Transformers movies 2-4 times but in Holland/The Netherlands it's only in my theater during the day last showing 15:00 something. So, I'm an adult, I have kids I cannot go during the day. It's not at after dinners times, not once. They were all between 10:00 and 15:30, that's crazy since other animation moveis are also in the evening.
It's like they really, really classified it as a kiddy movie, the likes of Paw Patrol. It gives adults a hard time even watching it.

The original Transformers movie didn't do so good in theaters either. But look at it now: it's regarded as a true classic.

Because of the time and circumstances it came out. For years, it was the one and only Transformers movie, part of the same world as the one and only Transformers cartoon, as a crucial part of that world's history, making it a crucial part of the brand's history. Nowadays, however, we have numerous Transformers movies and even more Transformers cartoons, all of which can (and some of them do) stand on their own without need of support from each other. As great as Transformers One is, it is far from the franchise-defining, revolutionary piece of work that the 1986 movie was for the brand. TF One's life and legacy is completely dependent on its financial success; it needs to do well so that Hasbro and Paramount don't decide to just move on and leave it in the past to try something else.bluecatcinema wrote:noctorro wrote:It really sucks this movie is doing so damn bad.

So we only have to wait 30 years for this film to get its due? And only 40 years to get toys that look exactly as they do in the film? Sounds rough

Transformers One - Production Designer Interview Outlines Current Status of Sequel - REVISED
- Motto: "'till All Are One"
Jason Scheier, the production designer of Transformers One, was recently featured in the Triple Takeover podcast, where he talks about potential sequels to Transformers: One, including how Josh Cooley already has outlines for the second movie and plans to make it a trilogy. He also mentions the dismay he has with the box office, and how that may impact how soon a sequel happens. However, he does mention the light at the end of the tunnel, which is that further good word about the movie could help initiate a sequel and let us continue to enjoy the story set up in Transformers: One.
We also have to remember that other factors, like very strong streaming numbers and toy sales, could help greenlight a sequel. Though that means it will take more time for Paramount to make the decision, hence the talk of a sequel now being on the back burner rather than in production.
You can check out a sample from the recent Triple Takeover Podcast, and you can follow the Instagram link above to find the whole show.

Not to rag on the guy, but ... production designer ... I doubt he's high up enough to really be "in the know" as to what's really going on behind the scenes with figures and decisions.
I'll wait for something more concrete, like one of the many executive producers saying something.

Sixo / TripleTakeover replies to this, strongly denying the interpretation:

Aside from what Burn said above, the clip Sixo posted is a lot more hedge-y than the "probably won't happen" would imply. Full transcript for reference:

Except that *isn’t* what he said.
Here’s the actual quote where he indicates it’s uncertain currently. Your headline does not portray that accurately and that’s all people will see.

Why do y'all hate this movie? It feels like most news articles you post about it are insanely negative. This isn't even what the guy said in the interview, he said a sequel might take a lot longer, not that it was unlikely. Jesus Christ. The other article comparing its box office to Wild Robot then y'all just throwing in that Totten Tomatoes numbers to... what? Show us that Transformers One sucks? God, this is just the worst. Can't y'all be happy a cool animated Transformers movie exists and make decent headlines that don't misconstrue what producers have actually said?

I feel sequels to TF One would be interesting to see. I already came up with some of my own ideas like the second movie being called "Sparks of War" as both factions race to find more of what Sentinel Prime took from them prior to the first movie's events while Optimus and Megatron have their own views on the war; maybe Optimus could grow a little too obsessed with stopping it while Megatron has a sense of regret?
A third movie I thought of, Quintesson Conspiracy, has the Quintessons strike at the worst moment, taking either the faction leaders or a huge chunk of both teams, forcing Optimus and Megatron to set aside their differences and find ways to defeat the invaders with the help of the spirit of Quintus Prime, who will show regret in creating the Quintessons and will not be repeating yet another true villain twist. I also thought of an idea where Prime and the spirit of Quintus must merge together to defeat the mother brain of the Quintessons, but at the cost of Optimus's own life (Megatron could also die so both factions could now live peacefully as their leaders wanted).
I feel like a lot of ideas for sequels to TFOne would range from insane to awesome, especially since the movie itself feels so vanilla and been-there-done-that a la second-rate animated films, tone/character/story-beat wise. Shame a lot of people see it as how I described it and let it underperform, even with a desperate gimmick account's word of mouth.

I am realizing I have a bunch of time to catch up on, and I haven't shared my thoughts on the movie yet, so here are some thoughts.
I loved this movie. It was really good, really fun, and very solid.
It's also funny, because my 2 favorite TF movies are the 2 with Sentinel Prime in them.
I loved the cogless and the whole setup for the miners. I loved the Orion Pax speech to them too, getting them motivated and slowly growing into his own.
D-16 was done so well, I legitimately love this version of Megatron. They did him great.

A third movie I thought of, Quintesson Conspiracy, has the Quintessons strike at the worst moment
I feel like it would make sense to have the second movie deal with the Quintessons and the third movie deal with the Autobots vs Decepticons.
My thoughts:
As far as we know, the Quintessons still control the surface. There's no reason they would have relinquished control. It's not like they would be scared of the Autobots when they held their own for a long war, defeated the Primes, and have all the Energon they could need.
The second movie feels like it could be Autobots AND Decepticons (separately) battling the Quintessons to reclaim the surface while also dealing with a Cold War tensions between the two factions as they gain territory on the surface.
The third movie feels like it would need to be Autobots vs Decepticons as the grand finale. You can't have a proper War for Cybertron without reclaiming Cybertron first.

Aside from the rather grandiose title and some language use, this was pretty good:
"When there's gold feathers, punch behind you!!"
